@Sean Concise logical response. I appreciate you taking my barrage of negativity as well as you seem to be, at least outwardly :P As for AV products, i dont run any. Other than windows defender with realtime disabled. the windows firewall is on for all 3 pc's but to be fair, my testing DID stop at looking at the rules manually (which were all proper) and then running the script anyways for good measure. I guess i ca

I can only surmise youre (stardock) a smaller group? or just unwilling to devote much manpower to it. Not an inherently bad thing, just stating the way i see it. Perhaps im completely wrong. Slow isnt the issue. ive just came across a plethora of threads where people are posting about how issues are xx-time old, along with infrequency of updates, inquiries regarding products being EoL and asking if theyre still in developme

thank for the post. I have noticed what appears to be some "tie" with KVM myself. Unsure if it happens after i try a copy/paste to a kvm, or after having used the kvm portion, or what. it just happens with a concerning frequency. As you mentioned, and i also noticed.. when sticking purely to km it seems much more stable. However if i was going to stay with KM only i would have stayed with MwB borders as that was 100% stable for well over a year.&

oh i dont doubt it has to be a conflict, with something thats apparently present on "multiple" computers. that being said, at that point - whos fault is it? none of that crash dump info is useful? Nothing i can provide from something like process monitor that will aid in narrowing it down as opposed to removing everything from starting on my pc's? Seems backwards. the "human" in me wants to say ive never had a problem elsewh

ha. the sleuth has discovered more.... stuff.... So my secondary (which i changed to primary for testing) can wake BOTH the other pc's fine. seems the problem is with the sending of the packets from the main pc and again only with multiplicity. Theyre just not being sent, or not getting to the other pc's in that direction. What on earth.... SO, can anyone pin down what would cause this behavior? Soooooo close!

59 Replies 55,963 Views

So i swapped my primary and one of the secondaries. It wakes fine in the other direction. So im at the point that someone with a deeper understanding needs to take over. I've exhausted all i know to do, and now i know it at least doesnt effect my main (usually primary) pc. Just my secondary and my secondary-laptop will not wake and only with multiplicity. harmph. all i need is to understand A) what is different in how mu

yea Get-NetIPInterface shows my local area connection with the highest priority (lowest number - 5) out of them all. a powercfg -devicequery wake_armed shows my ethernet adapter as having WoL enabled. (obviously since other apps wake it fine) I tried disabling ipv6 on my gateway and restarting (even though its dual stack and uses ipv4 internally anyhow) with no change. its something else, and it only effects multiplicity.

whelp, that wasnt it. so i purged for nothing and with it those "just in case i ever had to switch primary/secondary pc's" settings. Aka wasted my time. I'll look into that for sure. i dont doubt my ethernet adapter IS my priority adapter, what are the chances it is not on both secondary pc's? not to mention i disabled the wireless on my laptop and it still didnt work. ive never even connected via wifi on them but i digress. it does have an IP address doesnt it? you have multplicity on your primary "telling" which IP is connected AND telling what mac adapter which directs it to the proper Ethernet

Not sure if this is possible, but under a scenario where you'd like to use your desktop like a normal desktop, and you hide your fences ala double click..... anything you move to your desktop insta disappears. any way to modify this behavior or would it take stardock putting in an option to treat it that way when hidden? if its not possible (and lets be honest, i havent known them to add new features very often to anything) does any

1 Replies 8,507 Views

i explained why. dragging and dropping "stutters" or "hitches" when it crosses the boundary of the fence. ruins the experience. plus, because it copy/paste works without fences. fences intereferes and im sure its not intended behavior, just an oversight. apps moved out of fences via whatever means shouldnt be zipped back into the fence. Even does it with a copy/paste. if you want to copy something to desktop and keep

so you can drag/drop out of a fence to the desktop and files will stay put. I figured i would cut/paste as dragging files across a fence boundary seem to have a bit of an experience ruining "hitch" to them as they cross the threshold. unfortunately doing so results in the file zipping back off inside the fence instantaneously. fences is apparently viewing it as a new file as opposed to a moved file like a drag n drop would be. I imagine an easy fix for

just bumping this guy. getting WoL working with multiplicity is super important to me. Hate having to use something else to wake my pc. loathe it. its annoying, redundant, inconvenient. anyways. assuming @Excalpius is on point with his assertion that the problem lay with multiple adapters, can a developer hop in and suggest perhaps a string that exists or can be added to the registry to force it to magic packet a specific a

not an issue, just a preference. if you have a non rolled up fence - and you arent moused over it, its coloring is uniform. if you mouse over it, the color stays uniform EXCEPT the titlebar, which then darkens. Trying to disable that behavior with the only way im seeing that as being possible is with turning opacity to 100% which isnt desirable. thanks though !

2 Replies 6,322 Views

So after having fences up and running for a solid day, it seems that no way exists to get the titlebars to not fade when your not actively using fence (apart from turning opacity to 100%) lol. I had hoped the opacity setting applied to the entire fence including titlebar but it seems the titlebar has its own offset and the fade in-out of it is hardcoded. even the fade-in faded fences when the mouse is over them-setting seems to have no effect on it. <br

so let me explain my situation and see if someone can suggest a workaround. I have my archives all going to a particular fence. My folders to another. If i extract an archive to a folder from within a fence, it goes to the desktop, then the proper folder-fence. this wouldnt be too big of an annoyance except the folder that appears for a few seconds on the desktop goes right behind an existing fence.. Would be awesome if it just circumve

So fences ties in with windows native sorting/sizing etc, and seemingly breaks the desktop behavior. if i have a hodgepodge of icons on my desktop (pre fences) and right click > sort > pickyourpoison. It will do so. I can immediately grab one of said icons, and move it wherever i want again. Fences takes it upon itself to not only do the sorting like you request, but enable the "auto arrange icons" tag at the same time. No problem i thou

yea as noted, im trying not to reach that point. (refund wise) as ive wanted to try multiplicity and migrate from MwB for some time. I finally made the jump and while it does some of what i wanted it to better, it comes with tradeoffs (and worse). the Wake on lan, and these crashes are paramount atm. I just purged my primary as well and re did it this AM, so will keep you posted. the laptop has had 0 issues so while as a feature its "su

aaand lost seamlesss, assumed the secondary was back to crashing. Nope, primary this time. entirely differnet computer. built about 7 years apart. entirely different platform even. So its my understanding a program shortcut is anything with a .lpl extension yes? I placed one on the desktop and its not going to the proper designated fence. I finally ascertained this was happening due to the Downloads rule which includes the exe extension and i point to a different fence. its taking the shortcut.lpl that points to an exe (like all program shortcuts would) and parsing it as an exe and putting it in the wrong fence. pretty big issue id say.

So im debating transitioning from open-shell, and im about 50/50. Can already tell "some" concessions will need to be made, but trying to make it as least painful as possible. 1) Settings. its already in the custom places list - id prefer to not have it in the list of my folders under all programs. how can i hide this? 2) organizing the all programs list in general. appears you cant sort the entries in any way? I guess theyre all just

seems you can right click a single icon and "exclude this icon from quick-hide" however if you try to select more than one, its not possible. so you get to go one by one. while its nice they have "something" in. Certainly not feasible in an on-going way or when dealing with a volume. as alluded to, an additional option to simply not quick-hide all unfenced icons is gonna be a solid improvement.
