#5 by Lowa11 You see, when you play RTS games too much, this is how you write inbetween clicks of the mouse!

Well, one great series that has a lot of North American fans is Worms -- the (sorta) 4th in the series is now out everywhere else. We get the boxed edition sometime late this month (I hope). Link Try the demos -- they're great! p.s. Brad, try and get the rights to this puppy -- at least for the next version!
One of the reasons I've played GalCiv since the OS/2 days is that it doesn't depend on my ability to twitch the mouse at a minimum speed (and secondly it didn't require FPS level hardware). I bought a subscription in the hopes of getting more games like GalCiv -- but they seem to be in the vanishing minority. I realize this also reflects the market, but there *are* quality non-realtime strategy/action games out there that are still actively
That is how some Christians feel about non-believers. That they are in danger, that they are taking their kids with them.....and they will do whatever they can to try and keep it from happening, even if it means pissing you off. Except from the other perspective its more like a fortune teller following you a
Bitching about christians trying to make converts is like complaining that water is wet. Amen! You wouldn't believe the looks and static I get when I'm sacrificing people's pets or seducing their daughters to serve Our Lord Satan. Not to mention the used car loans at 10 points above prime.<
Reply By: Island Dog Please, if you're going to comment, at least use some effort to address the issue directly. The sheer laziness of using this cartoon is astonishing -- better go back and make sure you have up to date bumper stickers too.
Aside from sales tax collected, a business should pay no tax. Two huge, offtopic issues here, but I'll bite. I'm opposed to consumption taxes since they are regressive, i.e., the less income you have the more (as a proportion) taxes you pay. Obviously a huge kick in the pants for people (and compani
The money with which all of these goods were purchased was already taxed at some point. To tax them again at death is unconscionable. What about the goal of preventing family dynasties? It obviously hasn't worked because the oldest of the old money (e.g., many of the Mayflower families and the resource baron
All this talk about what "fair" level of personal income tax to levy seems premature to me without resolving two key issues on the transfer of wealth: 1. Inheritance/estate taxes -- how does wealth move intergenerationally. 2. Business taxes -- how much are corporate and organizational entities fiscally responsible to the employees, shareholdres, local, p
A couple of questions from a Non-American: - are the donations to the religious organizations tax deductible? - assuming the intent is to reduce the burden on these groups of taking funds not already intended for aid, why not temporarily create a 100% reimbursable tax credit for emergency relief instead? - the 2nd link shows the Red Cross is jumping through hoops to demonstrate its independence from the government, any reason wh
I posted this in response to a different article in "Humor" ( Link ): What really yanks my wanker about Western society now .... .... We're becoming more technically dependent and proficient BUT more illiterate .... .... We no longer study History or Geography ....

flies would be better than nothing. ---LW Yeeeeah....that's pretty gross. But I guess you're right. Better than nothing. Quite possibly worse than nothing actually -- add in the cost of catching a fly, eating it and fighting off the germs and other nasties that it probably carries, then your energy
My preference is for a less cynical approach -- hope for transparency in government, i.e., first find out what essential services only the government provides and how much they actually cost. If that information is forthcoming and accurate, then we can let the accounting bookworms figure out how to structure a simple progressive/flat rate structure. Barring that, then perhaps another approach would be to figure out a general "minimal cost of l
For people who'd rather have a thousand (colourful) words, NASA's Hurricane Resource Page is an eyeful: Link
A good source (if you can stay online) is the NOAA's National Hurricane Center: Link . Note that there's an RSS feed for Rita specifically.
What are the rules in that part of the world -- is having insurance required for home ownership? If so, what kind of coverage? What are the premiums like? What do renters have to have? I'm curious to see if its a) any kind of a financial burden, and b) whether the standard offers much coverage against catastrophies like hurricanes.

I've been reading up on BSD. I want to set up a FreeBSD file server next winter, if I can get hold of the hardware I need. FWIW, a few things to keep in mind (sorry if you're already aware of these, but this might be of general interest as well) OpenBSD -- by far the most secure general purpose O
The CBC link plus my original article ( Link ) provide some background on the dispute. Essentially: - NAFTA rejects final US appeal that Canadian lumber practices are unfairly subsidized to the detriment of the US lumber industry - Canada asks for all tariffs levied and collected to be h
Has anybody been able to archive something huge like Disciples II without the server resetting the connection? I've tried twice and it gets about 360MB or so in (less than an hour) before the server chokes and kills the download. Keep in mind I don't have Disciples II installed -- this is strictly download and archive.
