That is my understanding as well.
I also ran into some issues with the upgrade then downgrading. I unstalled all of Gal Civ II, even the multimedia pack. I did a reboot and then started fresh and reinstalled. I have not had a problem since then. If you haven't tried this yet, it couldn't hurt to give it a shot.
In SDC, does it show an available version to the right of Gal Civ II? Also, what version does it show as installed?
You might have a different version of Multimedia then the build is looking for. You could try uninstalling the multimedia and see if that helps with the CTD's.
If you go back into SDC and click on games. Does it show version 0.81a.007 as being available? If so, you can install that version and you should be able to play. It is Beta 6.
I am running Beta 5 and I am still senging in SmartExceptions and also screen shots of bugs I run into. Should I continue to do this or is it a mute point at this stage?
I myself am delighted with the ship design, the animated battles and the extra text/humor that I have seen so far. I am drooling waiting to see the campaign. I have never really enjoyed multiplayer games and will gladly save the $10.00 and not purchase that particular expansion if it ever does come out. That's my two cents. Thanks.
I myself am quite happy with the metaverse option as a way to compare ones skills agains others. I just hope my name sits somewhere near the top.

My home PC was asking. I went ahead and downgraded as the game was crashing often so I figured I didn't get a complete download of the .9xxx version. After appling the NVidia fix, I am up and running fine now on version 0.81. Thanks.
It's an old bug that has already been fixed and wiil be fine when the game is released, in the mean time: https://www.galciv2.com/beta/builds/gc-nvidia.zip Unzip the two files into your GalCiv II directory and this should address the issue. C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2
Have you tried running as a restricted user and then using the "run as" command to run the game? Hold down the left shift key while right clicking on your game short-cut.
I re-downloaded and applied the fix from last time and I am up and running again, Thanks. Please see the "Beta 5 - nVidia crash troubleshooting thread".
I agree.
OK, I've sent the e-mail. It is still crashing. It is acting just like it did when we had the NVidia problem. BTW, nvidia drivers are 8.1.9.8 12/10/2005
OK, not sure if this is funny or not but I just tried to run the game 0.81.006 and I have the same problem. I will now do what you have suggested and get back to you. Here is the debug to look over. Debug Message: Version v 0.80 Beta 5 last updated on: Fri Dec 16 17:52:22 2005 Debug Message: Could not find a TGN Serial No. Debug Message: *********DXDiag info follows.********* System Info Time: 1/14/2006, 13:05:09 DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.090
Can we request the CD electronically or should we call Stardock when the game is released?
After uninstalling GalCiv2, manually delete any galciv2 directories that may be left. C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 and C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2 and reinstall. Not sure if this will help but it certainly couldn't hurt at this point.
I would recommend re-downloading the game. I know it will downgrade you but I had the same problem and going back to the correct version I was suppose to have fixed it right up
For those of us who have pre-order the electronic download version directly from StarDock, will we also receive a boxed version with the CD or anything like that or just the download?
Here at work the upgrade worked perfectly to 0.81.006. At home, it upgraded me to 0.90(b).013. Both systems are using Star Dock 2.21[b].163 Build 105. Here, no change that I can tell from last update. I haven't been able to play much at home but I did notice the Stardock scrren at startup and some new graphics. Also, It does want me to upgrade/downgrade to 0.81.006. Anyway, no biggie for me. I think both versions are fantastic.
Looks Great. Keep up the fantastic work.
