More work on Alt-Tab. It looks there is something in the map display that is still holding onto data after an invalidate. This is causing the reset functions to fail. Looked over more DirectShow samples to find the one that is most adaptable. So far it looks like DrawXCL will work, but it'll take experimentation to make sure. Spent 90% of the day cha

More tweaks to the multithreaded load. Trying to stop the random crashes. This round, I removed the UpdateControls from the constructors and added them to the virtual Unhide() calls. Also cleaned up the current classes. Whole messes of changes. Tried to get Alt-tab and cutscenes working better. Didn't quite work out. I'll have to go to try a different tac

fsk: You've done pretty good figuring out what the game mechanics. We'll look into the AI bugs that you reported. We'll also take a look inot randomizing the election process. We had planned to do something like you mentioned, where states that were toss-ups would either come up last, or we'd do something to add tension to those states.

Spent the morning discussing new MainUI options with Paul, Scott and Cari. People get confused because the currently selected state changes the picture in the center, but the buttons next to the picture work in the state that the candidate is in. More bug triage.... Fixed the asset window so that it properly displays the opponents information. <B

Daily 04/02/04 Fixed the runaway stamina problem. I clamped it to the range 100.0 to 0.0. Hopefully this will take care of all the runaway number problems. Fixed the bug where the STOP in the AssetWindow is visible when it shouldn't be and fixed the crash that resulted from clicking the STOP button when it was visible when it shouldn't have been. Chan

Fixed StateDetails button on Fundraising window. Looked into Cari's wonky formatted text fields. The coordinate calculations look correct. It may be something with the dynamic texture file. We'll definately have to investigate it more. More tweaks to the Asset window. Slowly getting there. Added more API for the AI. Incorporated Paul's tweaks.

Tonight my wife, pregnant 7 months, pointed me to an article on her "pregnancy board" about the Quiznos sub comercials featuring the "Spongmonkeys". The article and the 34 replies were all women who couldn't stand the little buggers. However, the majority of husbands found the comercials hilarious and quite catchy. They'd even go around the house humming the tune and saying "They got a pepper bar!!". I fall squarly this

Content generators generate content. Right? Spent the last few days coding up the Political Machine Editor. It took a while, but it's finally done. Really complex stuff. At least we don't have to type them in by hand :) Here are some screens: The main question tree shows the flow of the conversation. The "Main:" section is the questions that the users will see. The "Pool:" section are the questions that are available as counters quest

Last night was the first official meeting of the unofficial Stardock Board Gaming Group . It was a blast! Paul was blasted and everyone had at least 5 (count em' 5) good laughs. Amidst all the counter striking going on in the office, a core group of 5 adventurers set out on a quest to play non-video games in an office that makes video games. Ooooh.... Attendees: Angie - "Move that here..."<

Daily for the last couple of days. * More work on getting political machine up to spec. * Interrupted by a big PM Machine. * Pumped out the issue editor. * Got sidetracked a little to help out on the GalCiv editors. * Started the Question editor.

* Spent the last couple of days shaping and molding political machine to fit the spec. There's more work than I initially thought. The game has changed quite a bit from its first incarnation. It'll probably take me the rest of the week to do. It looks like a fun game though as soon as we get everything in. * Brainstorming about Issues and Questions. I'll have to create editors to make content generation easy.

p>A very busy day today. * Finished converting the network code to work with our new screens. The only thing left to do is add code to handle the case where the host opens, closes and kicks a player. The host can open and close the game repeatedly if they want. This can cause a strain on our network startup/shutdown code. * Added the new Korx and Drath graphics to the MapEditor. <img border="0" src="https://www.joeuser.com/joe/Daily012304/newShips.pn

The Political Machine Game Flow Architecture Introduction The Political Machine is a new game under development by Stardock Systems. It can be played as both a single player and a multi player game. In order to accommodate both play types in the short time we have allotted to developing the game, I had to think of ways to kill two the birds with one stone. What I came up with is a game flow that worked for both methods as well as a “Controller” pattern that m

Fun day. * Checked in the multiplayer political machine so that Scott could start adding screens. It should work for everyone. George and I were able to play a mock game. * Wrote the streaming operators for most polmachine objects. We can use them to stream to/from a file for saving and to/from a buffer that we send across the network to make sure that the games stay in synch. * Spent some time with Scott and Paul tweaking the PolMachine UI. Tomorrow I should get some r

This is the effect of capitalism. The money goes to genres that are going to have the biggest return. Most of the sequels you mentioned are first person shooters. However, if a new first person shooter came out that didn't have all the hype as the others, it would go largely unnoticed. See what I mean. That's why you have to have the blockbuster name. There are still some good titles out there if you're willing to look. Want a new idea? Try something l
