Thanks for a very comprehensive reply. I don't feel confident about editing the registry so a simple mechanism to extract settings to an export file on the source computer and a corresponding import function on the target computer and vice versa would be perfect.

I'd like to be able to sync my Fences layout to another computer to make a bunch of regularly used URLs available on the other computer rather than having dozens of tabs open in the browser as I currently seem to do. Assuming it can't be done automatically, I thought I'd try just copying to USB stick and then copying to the other computer. Basj, thanks for your prompt reply. I see where I was going wrong with making shortcuts as I had mistakenly been swiping with my right mouse on the desktop, perhaps as I used to do before I installed Fences, but your post reminded me to do that in a simple right click with no swiping. I can create program icons in a similar way but your post reminded me that I can also do this a right click on the program name from File Explorer. Great support !

thanks, some neat tips there, and answered my slightly tongue in cheek question about what is a Fences Portal, but my main question "how do I create the shortcut to put into a fence eg. to run a program" was not answered. Let me give a specific example. I fire up my browser, go to the page with my local weather, copy the URL with my local weather. I'm fairly new to Fences. I get how to make a 'fence' but how do I create the shortcut to put into a fence eg. to run a program? AzDude, I uninstalled Kaspersky but it made no difference. I then checked startup and found that Fences had been disabled from startup (perhaps by me, or perhaps a 'tune-up' utility) so I re-enabled it and it works fine now. I've reinstalled Kaspersky that that wasn't the problem. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Stardock Fences doesn't show icons and Fences until I right-click the desktop in Fences Stardock Forums

I'm new to Fences, and running 3.0.9.11 which looks good once it's working, but my issue is that Windows now starts up with a blank desktop and my desktop icons and Fences only appear once I rightclick on the desktop at which point they take some seconds to completely load which is really slowing me down. I really need Fences to start automatically with Windows. I'm using Windows10 with Kaspersky security cloud free a/v. Ho
