If you get really lucky, a random event will occur between the two parties, breaking the treaty thus allowing you to align with one or the other. Saved my butt once. Sometimes lucky is better than mediocre. :)

Will do Damoose. :)
What's needed here (You Americans are going to love this) is a form of communisum, viz: "From each according to their abilities to each according to their needs"
Wait a minute. I think it might be better said that most planets(whatever % fits) do produce more taxes than expenditures or there would be no surplus. Trade become almost a burden to carry and will not compensate for the loss of it when war breaks out and Trade funding vanishes. Trade is wonderful if mantain
The planetary Governor sliders idea might be a possible solution for the problem of local waste of resources, when no production is taking place, to some extent but for it to become a truly efficient tool then a "distribution network of Funds" for each Governor would be required from the ruling governing body. We call it transfer payments in our country. Not all member(provinces in this case) are treated equally when it come to funding (taxes collected from the whole for distribution to the many
If a 2D surface, like the one used now, was extruded to create a cube, then as long as no two systems shared similiar X,Y coordinates while having differing Z axis values then a 3D galaxy shouldn't be that hard to deal with visually. If systems do begin to cover(block)over each other, then the whole rotation to find the hidden ones on the Z axis gets rather dodgey.
Well from the events that have occured to me that one sounds like it was a member of your own delegation, and you were on one of their planets, not yours. It is always good to really read those closely when they pop up. How to avoid these problems is to spend Espionage money under the Relations screen. That however does not make you immune. I have always invested money as soon as making contact with each and every alien(since getting burned my first time) but it still happens that
So what your saying is that if I wait 48 turns out of 50, then decide to go to the seller and pay cash for the last 2 turns to complete the ship, which the game does allow, meaning I have spent the needed resources(units), I still need to wait 1 more turn or lose the whole completed investment? Why doesn't that sound right? So by my limited thnking I actually have to pay 51 units for every 50 unit item? Or does it complete on turn 49 and is then delivered on turn 50? If I s
That still doesn't explain why I can pay for it and not have it delivered? A fine 'Hint' btw, but I think that some block should have been put in place that says, "You can't change the build queue until the last ordered(and paid for)ship has cleared the ship yard!" The reason being is that if I have a small number of turns left on a ship and then change it for a one turn ship(a scout say)when I receive my scout next turn and can go back to the previous one and it seems to remember
Sorry about the snacks damoose. Couple of the fellows showed up and I had left them on the counter. Before I could prevent it, I was sweeping up the last of the crumbs from the floor. I will be more dililgent in the future. ;) [Message Edited]
Here is one that has irked me more than once but I was not sure it was me doing something wrong or the game itself. Maybe someone else has seen it. Goto a planet to purchase a ship. Click buy straight up, program returns that ship will be delivered next turn. With new ship on order, select a new ship type to be constructed beginning on the next turn and move on. Finish up other things for that turn and then hit the Turn button. Well the company which sold m
Wary one should be, the undead of the yard have a rather unusually high desire for things G.R.O.S.S. especially as an appetizer. :d
Gameplay! Gameplay! Gameplay! imho There have been way to many games that sacrificed the above to appease those who wanted fancy graphics. That is not to say that having both, Great Graphics + a superior AI on top of Great Gameplay! wouldn't be great, but if the combination has to comes at the expense of the big one, Gameplay! then that cost is just not acceptable. GalCiv is a good example afaic. Once you have seen the cut

(Liquid Snow) A fluidic susbstance know to many Canadians as Rain. With an average liquidic substance fall of 1,000,000,000,000mm annually, we much prefer IT to the stuff that has to be moved with a shovel( a crystaline version of the fluidic substance) this time of year. :) ;) :D LOL
OK, I guess my question was a bit to ambigiuos. I am a Beaver eating Canuck thru and thru and was pleased to find a Canadian contingent well placed in the Metaverse. Maybe it was wishful thnking on my part I guess. Play I will indeed and have FUN? Well if the bleeding aliens would allow a guy to get setup once and a while, well you know all about that I'm sure. I guess for now I will just continue my meteoric climb to the top of the CSF and then see what can be done about the other fac
12 degrees C with liquid Snow, just the way we like it. Forecast is for 15 degrees C with further amounts of liquid Snow, just the way we like it. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( There, that should offset some of the smileys. :) (doh)
Actually, I was hoping for some real game settings, not ,what might be the toughest' scenarios. What is the toughest combination you have setup yourself and then faced?
Random alignment isn't the path to challenge. At least not in my experience. Leave the alignment on default. Abundant maps average harder than less fertility, though this too has exceptions.
The reason I choose Random is that when you begin you don't know what alignment the AI will be until after you have to select your first or 2 alignment choices. Well unless you always select Neutral of course, but what challenge is that. No Bonus points eh. Ummm, that is not
Was wondering how everyone thought about what the toughest starting setup might be. Having worked my way up the food chain(1 Maso win even)how would you rate this start for difficulty? AI set to Painful or Maso with all 5 races set at Random Alignment on a Medium Map with Tight Clusters and Uncommon planets? Despite the changes to the AI as of late, how do you set it up for that REALLY tough outting? >:(
Could someone be so kind as to explain how this little Federation works? I mean how does the CSF fight against other groups in the Metaverse or gain ground on the Galactic map? I feel as if my hard earned points don't seem to matter on the whole to the CSF and the Metaverse and that was the point of joining after-all.
In response to Hermann the Lombard' reply above. "Always be prepared to use your other cheek!" Btw, shutting down the Black Chamber could be seen as non-Good act and thus your friend doesn't fit the profile as Saintly. ;)
Just to chime in on the Alignment points being brought up here, in the right place or not. The idea that Evil and Good races should not share Techs opposed to their alignments seems reasonable on the surface, but one point I find missing so far is this. If you restrict alignment to much, then you will have to consider all aspects of the alignment. The fact is that any truly Saintly(Good)Aligned Race would never spy on their neighbours, or spend credits trying to cove
I would second Lord Megatrons request. Although good to see the Minors be tougher to devour for the Majors early on, they now consume much needed Systems that the player might get instead.
Thanks to all. So I am to gather that the influence of said sector changes as the Council meets? So if the AI had control for 4 years, I could conceivably take control for the next 4, as the Influence resets after the council meets right? My idea would be to buy influence from a Minor on the first turn after the Council convenes thus rushing ahead in IP for at least a little while during the next 4 years. Actually, that may be a good way to drain AI resources without spending
Star Faring Tax? How do you have a star system in a sector you don't own? The Council asks for a tax to be levied on systems in sectors not owned, if I have a system in a sector, do I not own that sector?? How do I ask for money to not go to war the way the AI does. Is it Attack for money? I don't remember seeing the AI's name listed with those available to attack when selecting that option. Could be just a rookie mistake as well. ;)
