Well, firstly I divide ships into a bunch of Classes [from smallest/lightest to largest/heaviest]: Corvette -> Brig -> Galleon -> Frigate -> Destroyer -> Cruiser -> Battleship -> Dreadnought -> Super-Dreadnought I then name them according to their class. Like, Corvettes would be things likes Sparrow and Cardinal and Wasp and Hornet. Brigs would be, like, Raven and Vulture and Coyote. Galleons would be Wolf and the stuff only gets larger.

Man, I wish I knew C++ and stuff. I tried to a looong time ago and was way overwhelmed. You guys have inspired me to try my hand at it again, though. I was pretty young at the time. I do hope you find some good developers, though. The Stardockians are a tremendously awesome folk -- that there aren't more of you is rather a travesty. PS: Boy, do I wish Michigan looked like that. Then Illinois might look similarly to it. <img s

The Metaverse looks awesome. Great work...now I REALLY can't wait for the game. Also...the Altarian and Arcean pics in the Player's Profile places are reversed. The Altarian pic is used for games played by the Arceans and vice versa. ^_^; Just thought I'd point it out in case no one had noticed.

Dumbed down compared to what? Certainly not Civilization III, which had even worse AI, stiffer diplomacy, and even less distinguished civilizations. The combat system is a bit less obvious, but I happen to think Civ3's was worse because it was both unrealistic and unbalanced. Of course, I'm pretty sure GC2 will blow any Civ game away. But I prefer to see them as complimentary -- play Civ IV, launch a spaceship, then begin a new game and head out into the galaxy.

It's not hard, it's just that the map editor utility is a little, um, tempermental at the moment. Stardock plans to release the map editor utility eventually but right now it's just too difficult to work with. I do hope that after that, a campaign editor could be released? I really would love to redo my campaign in GC2 format. ^_^;

*claps* Awesome! Truly awesome. Answered a large number of questions I had. ^_^ Now: does this mean there will only ever be three Galactic Civilizations games? Or will the universe expand beyond the manuscripts eventually, if you want them to? [IE: they're a freakishly huge success]

How do we know that machines wouldn't be a better inhabitant of this world? Heh. Depends on the machine. If programmed correctly, a machine could be just what you say they're not. No, an intelligent machine wouldn't necessarily be a better inhabitant nor a worse one. It depends on its outlook -- does it find organisms to be frightfully ineffici

Oh, as a person who is developing his own scifi mythology [I am ashamed to say I could make well over forty books out of the universe], I must say I'm quite interested in the backstory of the GalCiv universe. The more backstory and such that's revealed, in my opinion, the better one can be immersed in the game's setting. But that's just my opinion. I also know I'd definitely buy some stories based in the GC universe, whether your original or the game's version of it. ^_^ Out of curiou

Hm...considering everything I've heard, my system is pretty decently set to go. [okay, it's not MINE...uhm, not yet anyway...] It just got upgraded from an Intel integrated graphics processor to an ATI Radeon 9250 [PCI-version -- the compie lacks an AGP thingy]. It runs the three high-end games I needed it for exceptionally well, so I expect GC2 won't absolutely kill it...

Okay, this has bugged me ever since I saw previews for Altarian Prophecy. How in the universe do the Korx communicate? How do they see? How do they eat? Their face, uh, lacks eyes and a mouth. So...do they communicate through sign language? Psychically? Do they see in infrared or something? Do they give off soundwaves like a bat? What do they eat and how do they eat it? Do they have mouths on their hands or something? I somehow imagine them having a thin membrane where we'd think their mouth sho
