I would very much like to see something like FortyTwo's suggestion, or at least some other way to use spies to get similar intel to DL without needing to use so many of those expensive units.

my replys to peoples observations who are betas are unwanted? Not at all. I've noticed several folks who are very interested in DA but not in the beta yet. I was just thinking it might help Stardock be more efficient when they want to look at feedback from the beta volunteers. I guess I should have tried some <img src="http://images.st

I wish they had some feature that when a minor race becomes powerful enough it would have a chance to become a Major race and be invited into the United Planets. It would just make an interesting twist in my opinion. I really like this idea, but I don't think it would work for folks who start with 9 rivals, unless a strong minor could hang on unt

Currently the constructor is cheap You can make not-so-cheap constructors if you value speed. I used to keep two classes active, slo-boat commercial contractors and rapid-deployment SeaBee types. The micro stuff has made me wasteful (maybe one reason I'm still too chicken to step up from Tough AIs). Until the DA beta, I just keep making

a clever diplomat could wangle a treaty from each other race I'm midway through a long 1A game, started with 9 rivals and "random" minors (three so far), humbly still on Tough. For many, many turns my top-dog economy was entirely from econ treaties that were far too easy to get; same for research. No other AI managed to score a treaty and I picke

I am not a member of the Beta Respectfully, if you're not playing the beta, perhaps you should post in the Dark Avatar forum and not here in Beta Reports. I think I understand your point better now, but I also think the Stardock crew need all the help they can get sorting & filtering public response to the beta, starting with the funda

I thought I'd duped this stuck spy after culture flip thing, but reading around here and starting to type my "bug" up made me wonder if the spy might be *mine*. It was, which makes the missing Nullify button much less mysterious

the yor immediatly surrendered to the korx, it was the thalan who invaded them though I'm used to this from DL and actually like the way that works to help shake up a too-stable late game on a big map. But seeing surrenders to an attacker the turn after a war starts, well... At least I managed to pick up a resource mine and am still at t

I posted about this in the Drengin Problem thread earlier, but the problem (if it is one) seems to include the Korath. About six months later (Dec 2229), two of the middle-ranked AIs declared war on two of the weakest--Yor v. Drath and Iconian v. Korath. On the next turn, the *Korath* surrendered to the Iconians Why would

Either I've finally seen somthing that was possible all along in DL or there's something funky about the Drengin on very large maps. My current game is 1A, gigantic, abundant planets, abundant habitable, common stars, on Tough AI. I've got Super Hive and have been very dominant for the last couple of years, roughly 2227-2229. The galaxy has been at peace the whole time so far as I could tell (didn't get contact with all 9 rivals for quite a while). Terrans were #2 & a while ba

The more I read about DA the more I keep seeing the title MOO III. Pshaw! I've got modest computing-geezer credentials and I spent *at least a year* being teased by the MOO III debacle before I had a chance to mis-spend my money. Stardock and DA are as close to the opposite of that as you could get while still being galactic 4X. Don't co

AI is not what you think it is. For a healthy share of us, game AI is not what *you* think it is, whatever that might be. The quote you rebuke seems like a fairly resonable request to me, especially b/c I read it as being basically in the pro-EG camp. I've already admitted I prefer AI polishing over the EG, but darnit, I hate being force

Is anyone seeing signs that the seeding for resource nodes is different (esp. on gigantic maps)? I did an early exploration phase on several build 1 games, and played a few years into a game in 1 and 1A. In every game, it seems like resources are much less likely to be placed near my home turf.

I think gigantic-map games might be really different in terms of AI spy use. I got near the end of my colony rush with a build 1 game and am not too far from a similar point in my 1A game, and I have yet to see a spy placed in my empire.

I think I'd be *really* smart if I could write a (layperson-readable) test plan for a public beta for a game with such a huge range of play options. @Mumble: Your reply makes me think that I might be able to skip a release or two and still possibly report something worthwhile from my late game. But I've been reading a lot around here about the balance stuff, and right now I have no idea how I'd try to guess whether something I see in 1A is moot b/c of changes in place by 1E or

Thanks for the rapid response, Kryo. I had mostly guessed that immediate updates were best, but wondered if there was something I wasn't seeing about how a complete long game regardless of build might be useful to Stardock. Cyberj, your take on the speed of 1A makes sense to me, and I hope you're right that the full beta process will manage to capture some input from mature or near-complete long games, even if my work sched stabs me in the back, which is likely for Dec & Jan <img src="

I'm interested in what suggestions folks might have for those of us who usually play long games on gigantic maps. I was startled and impressed to see how rapidly the 1A build was released and it prompted me to dump my "committed" long game from build 1. (The launch direction button, among other things, was too much to not get immediately!) Will this beta process gain more from my type of player if we basically speed-date with new builds as our driver, or should we skip interim

I heartily second the idea of integrating the super abilities with events. Re Super Hive, a discount on factories does seem like it might be better than the one-turn thing. Not that I'm not having fun upping my production almost at will

I really like the idea of making the species design include disadvantages as options for getting a boost in other areas, like Jeff Graws Breed Slowly But Carry a Big Stick notion. The general idea of doing something like lowering basic factory output for Super Hive or forbidding power plants sounds interesting, but I haven't managed to get to the power plant techs yet and I know the balancing is all at rough draft stage. Might be that most of us have fairly different ideas for

I can't do both. Hay boss, I wasn't *at all* expecting *you* to do any more work! I was just suggesting that a little kicking of the user base from one of your fine crew might help get more folks like me to get of these forums and do some doc work over there. Apologies if I appeared rudely demanding. I guess I should pick up that flag myself if I
