If one couldn't go into debt to buy terror stars, that would be a big nerf
This would only delay the inevitable. Making the AI react to constructors in their sectors would spice things up and be a better fix. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]

Vincible, yes that is what I was thinking about. Ah the power of a word, if SpellForce used "hostess" instead of "enforcer" we would be having an entirely different discussion. ;) ~SDC~
The Diplomats Empire...yep, that's diplomacy, all right.
What was the saying around Napoleon's time? Something about diplomacy being war in disguise, does anybody know the exact phrase? ~SDC~
Does anyone out there play Maso level games with +25% or +50% luck bonus?
When I take 25% luck on maso, I usually get rangers but never before anybody knows the ranger tech. As for the starting position, I wouldn't know since I almost always take the first start given to me. ~SDC~

Wow, I just had the easiest gigantic maso I ever played. 3 hours total time, I barely had time to establish 4 trade routes. 60000 metaverse points but the ingame score was the lowest I have ever seen at barely 2200 points. I had a decent start, grabbing 5 pq15+ and 1 pq14. After meeting everyone, it was clear the Drengin were the runaway AI with 10 systems, Yor and Arcean had 3 each, Torian had 2 and the poor Altarian had a single system. Then the fundamentalist showed up and took all t

In the early stages of the game, after the initial social production rush, I set my lowest quality planets on colony ships production. Whenever a colony ship is completed, I load 20 million colonists and sent it toward the edge of my range. While exploring, if I spot a planet I might want to colonize, I use F9 and select the closest colony ship and send it to park under the planet. In the late stages of the game, if I decide I could use a plnet in a section of the map, I zoom in a bit on the F9
In the end its not really the Earth I'm so concerned about but ourselves
You got that part right, Earth (and life on Earth) will continue no matter how bad we screw up the planet. We, on the other hand, will not survive a major blow to the ecosystem.
Its ironic that as far as we've come it would take so little to wipe us out forever
That would be the ultimate answer to your question about Mars. Why go there? Because it is the first step t
how many games do you have to win to show up on the average scores leaderboard
You will need 10 games to show up on the average score page. I left autosave at the deault setting, once every year. It's an insurance policy against the game crashing on me so I will loose at most 12 turns. Besides that I use 2 savegames. One is the default "new save game" when I have to take a break from the game or I feel I have accomplish something significant that I don't want to
M.U.L.E (1985 ish) - Atari 800 XL / 1300 XE
I would hardly qualify M.U.L.E of being a 4X game but I agree it is one of the best game of all time. Actually, it is one of the few computer software I really consider to be a "game". Everything else is pretty much a computer adaptation of a board game, a novel or a movie. From the same era, you could also name Archon, an interesting variation on chess. Both would run on a commodore 64 and I know someone who installed

Smegged, from what you wrote in the bug thread, it looks like you ran into the Draginol event. Your mishap is not the first to be reported about that event, I guess it is buggy in 1.13. Until they fix it, it is probably best to go to the previous save as soon as the event is annonced. Have you tried the oldautosave? It may yet save your time spent on the game. ~SDC~
#1 in the average score ranking?
That is an impossible goal unless Maxtipherous starts submitting games of less than 60k. Or SD removes the cap on gigantic military conquest AND I turn in better scores than he does. My second place average can be beaten if somebody submits fewer games of less than 60k than I did. Nah my next goal is to limit myself to play only 1 game every 2-3 days. That is the best balance between total points gain, average points per game and

Pick up a copy of the book "The sheep look up" by John Brunner. It was originaly published in 1972, written in 1969. His vision of the near future was quite dead-on on many subjects, mostly about the environment. It's a good read if you are environmentally conscious. ~SDC~
