Well it is a little more complicated than what I said, but that part explains your lowered score best. I know there is an Excel spreadsheet somewhere with the fomulaes to calculate score but I don't remember in which tread I have read about it. I think the total of each block is divided by the square root of the number of games within that block. So if you play much more, you will run into another kind of problem. ;) Incidently, the score shown within the empire page and the score in
I think that something like an average score
Games are group by blocks of 30 days from your last submission. The first block gets full score, the second loose 5%, the 3rd loose 10%, and so on. If you submit 20 games in a month than stop playing for a month, you can expect your score to go down when you next submit a game. If you submit a couple of games every month, your score should go up every month, or at least remain stable. ~SDC~
But if you stomp the civ, who are you paying the tribute to
You are paying the tribute to the United Planets. Leaving the paid tribute out only leads to abuse. By the same logic, to continue getting paid after wiping out a civ would lead to abuse and is best left like it is. ~SDC~
I have yet to see any evidence that the "Creative" ability works
This ability definatly lowers the morality requirements to research alignment techs. Try it out, with creativity, you can research Xeno-Intimidation at 35% morality instead of 30.
In particular the turns left for the current tech. It's wrong!
This is caused by the game not calculating your "free" research. It is true even after playing a couple of turns and then changing your

My weirdest game so far, so I thought I'd share it with you. Sorry, no pictures, my camera is broken. The setting was a gigantic size galaxy of tightly clustered stars of rare habitability. I wanted an easy game on this boxing day so I took the populist party with an extra 50 in diplomacy and military production, with the extra 2 points going into creativity and luck. Earth was a PQ 19 sitting in the most lower right sector. The system held nothing else of value and I was tempt

I knew about the not getting paid part, which makes sense, but my experience so far indicates you still have to pay your tribute after you kill a civ, which would also make sense. However, I did not check on that carefully since version 1.13, maybe I should have a look. ~SDC~
Moving ships around got pretty annoying after a while
Which ships are you moving around? I used to scout in details, using scouts, colony ships and freighters. Since moving to gigantic maps, I thought there must be a less tedious way. Now I research stellar cartography early and send freighters directly to star clusters with an habitable star. I do my best to build the Eye of the universe and once I have built it, I send one sensor drone per stripes of 3 sectors and just
whereas in Civ III on diety level you need a virtually perfect starting position
That is so wrong, as in any other 4x games, a good start makes the game easier but a bad start doesn't make a win impossible. I used to restart if Earth was lower than PQ 18 but I stopped after getting a very lucky game. It was a gigantic/rae maso, Earth was PQ 16 in a corner and with only 1 planet within reach, even after the first range extension. I was curious to see how bad
For research, it was how much of a tech lead
This is to make a tech victory while turtled up in a corner less attractive than being out there in the middle of the action. There is already a mechanism to grant more points if you are the first to research a tech, this would penalize you if you live off the AI research by playing the trading game. Some mechanism to reduce the value of each techs as time elapse would be nice too. The earlier the tech victory happens, the mos

Leftover research is wasted. When you are tight for cash, it is a good idea to try and set the slider for optimum research. Later on in the game (when you are filty rich ;) ), you can just set a percentage and forget about the waste. ~SDC~

Zed, I think it would actually show 0 Mvpts on the summary screen. I am not sure, never got one. Maybe you should load the end game save and submit again, I have had this kind of trouble in more than a few occasions. What I do is, I submit, alt-tab to windows, loadup explorer and move to the metaverse page. Then I wait for a couple of minutes, it could take a while for your game to come through. By the way, I have once accumulated about 70k gold for a terrorstar alpha strike on a gigant

Is it normal for the AI to build improvements they don't have the tech for yet? In my current game, an Alexian world flipped to me and it had a stadium already built even though I am the only empire with the knowledge of extravaganza. I made a save game at that point in case it is needed to investigate. ~SDC~
scoring based on the gap between player and AI is a poor mechanism
I think you misunderstand me, or rather I explain myself poorly. I am more interested in measuring how well you perform for your given victory type than I am in the gap between the player and the AI. The only place this gap should matter is when you get an alliance victory, which is quite easy to obtain as soon as the alliance tech is known. Of course there should be other factors as well, like how many tu
I see a fatal flaw in all of his "100%/50%" scoring proposals
This proposal concerns only cultural victory. It takes skills to own 90% of the galaxy without eliminating a race or 2. You would also have to consider how alien wars are going and take a more hands-on approach to maximize score.
Stardock must accurately identify what is vs what is not a challenge to the players
The way I understand it, there are already some measures of how you
