Why play on Maso level if you can score the same or similar on Normal?
Because bleeding from the ears is fun! I found that my enjoyment of the game increased with the difficulty levels, but that's just me--and that's the beauty of the game. Play it as you like it; the Metaverse is just a sidebar. Hell, I've stuck to pretty much Tiny maps due to time constraints and a flaky attention span--not gonna be pegging 60K anytime soon. Big deal.
Hmm, starbase 3-space limit has been removed as well. I don't think I have seen this mentioned in the list of changes.
I could swear that it does; maybe I'm just well-trained by 1.12. I don't think the 3-space limit applies across sector boundaries, though.
You are paying the tribute to the United Planets. Leaving the paid tribute out only leads to abuse. By the same logic, to continue getting paid after wiping out a civ would lead to abuse and is best le

This may be of no help to you whatsoever, but... I occasionally get the clock face between turns, and I generally play only tiny and small maps. I find that left click-holding on the main map and wiggling the mouse seems to "wake it up."

Under the Tools menu, select "Check for Application Updates." d.b., under the "Downloads" section of this site (galciv.com), there Adobe Acrobat versions of the game manual and a strategy guide. I found them to be indispensable for getting my bearings with this game, although, as you've seen, the people here are fantastic about answering any questions that anyone may have. Myself, I like to have a printed copy of the instructions to pore over and spill coffee on.

I also got a complete lock-up on the tech-sharing UP vote. I rebooted, reloaded, and didn't get the same issue in the UP, but a bit later I got my first CTD. The last thing I remember happening is the Altarians switching alignment, but OF COURSE I haven't been able to reproduce it yet.
Enquiring minds could have checked my profile at any point.
Heh. Make that, "enquiring, non-rectally-inserted minds." Sheesh. I'm not really an idiot, see, I just portray one in public. Dock me a point for that one. I envy you your grandmother's culinary skills. Mine thought seasonings were an extravagance. Try making pumpkin pie with a third of the spices called for in the recipe and see how it goes over with the holiday crowd. Mmm, boy, gourd pie. --M
If not for that, and then having to stay up later to finish the game, I'd have gotten seven hours.
"...finish the game..." Does that mean your Beyond Human OPC has actually been concluded, and you are now formatting another humbling AAR, complete with purty pictures? Or maybe even for download in printable Adobe Acrobat format? Cripes. I was thinking of the food-grade-cardboard frozen pizza product, but I suppose if one doesn't mind a yeasty keyboard, y

Interesting. I was wondering why I had a 'Join' button for an "invite-only" empire, and as RB seems much more my style than the other majors, I clicked it. I sheepishly backed out of the e-mail window without sending, but I guess the Metaverse system is too efficient for my hamhanded curiosity. Ah, well... Sirian, I apologize for the somewhat noobish approach, but yes, I would like to join RB. Your rules and general philosophy agree with my gaming style. I'm playing the smaller maps, as

I don't know that the wretchedness of the Ascendancy and MOO3 AIs had much to do with 3D. The 3D starmaps always struck me as essentially gosh-wow for the interface anyway. Crappy AI is crappy in any dimension.

Harel brings up excellent points, and anybody with the integrity and cojones to admit involvement with MOO3 on an open forum has my admiration (I didn't like MOO3; does it show?) I've been called close-minded enough times in my life that I'm starting to think that they might have a point. Far be it from me to degrade the effort and love that goes into building any game. My personal problem with RTS games is that I have yet to find one that, sooner or later, doesn't devolve into some var
Only with a big budget. And that you don't get without aiming your product for big sales, which means dumbing down the game to appeal to today's console gamers instead of yesterday's PC 4X genre gamers of old.
It doesn't get much more real-life than that.
Budget has nothing to do with it. Not to insult Stardock, but a lot more designer hours went into Warcraft III then Gal-Civ and they still had better, 3D graphics.
What? Of course they ha
