Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Thanks, Aaberg. I really should read the fine print!

Hi, Gerraken! Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Regarding the planet invasions, the money loss occurs any time I take over an ai planet, whether it is in the beginning of a war or the end, whether they are a trading partner or not. I will have a positive cash flow going, take over a planet, and immediately take cash hit of 2 to 3 thousand bc's that turn. The following turn my treasury amount will start going up again, so it does not seem to have anything to do with the loss of trade partners. Als
The problem is not caused by my monthly expenditures after all. It occurs because every time I invade an ai planet, it costs me 2 or 3 thousand bc's. I cannot figure out why, though. The planets are always turning a profit, even though they have lost most of their population. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks for your analysis, Ray! I have printed out your tips, and I am trying to implement your sound advice. It is hard for me to scrap ships, though, even weak ones. I would rather use them to try to overwhelm the enemy. It is more fun, even if most of them are destroyed. I seem to have gotten my cash flow problem under control. I have about 9000 bc's -- I twiddle with the slider bars every turn if I start to lose money, or make an excessive amount. Thanks, again!
Well, although I set the Spend Rate slider to zero % and have played several turns, I am broker than ever. Now I have minus (-) 8743 in my treasury. Even with the Spend Rate set at zero, the Economy screen says I am spending 1461 bc's per turn. I assume that means maintenance for my ships and social improvements cost that much. I have played around with the Tax rate; the optimum rate is 40%. If I set it higher than that, I receive much less money for some reason. Perhaps, my citizens give up the
Thanks for the replies. There was a typo in my earlier post. I was netting 954 bc (Income minus Expenses), not 3424 per turn. My current balance was -3424. Ray: I send the zip file to you. I played a few turns before zipping, but the situation is basically the same. Arturus Magi and AIL.ST: Okay, I have just set my Spend Rate to zero. When I get a balance of 500 bc, I will gradually increase my spending rate. I thought the Economics screen showed all the expenses. Wha
I am currently netting 3424 bc per turn. The breakdown is as follows: INCOME Taxes: 2125 Trade: 303 Tribute: 4 Total: 2432 EXPENSES Military: 906 Maintenance: 572 Total: 1478 However, I am Minus (-) 3424 bc's at the moment. Periodically, my net worth will turn positive for a while, then I will go broke again. I am puzzled. It seems like a bug in the program, but I have been browsing through the forum, and I have not seen any other
I am a total newby, and I am puzzled because I frequently find myself deep in debt, although I am supposedly netting several hundred bc's per turn. Does anyone have a guess what is going on? This is my 2nd game. (I abandoned the 1st, because I neglected to assign the bonus points during the game setup.) I am playing with the largest galaxy and am way ahead of all the other races in every aspect: influence, population, tech, military, etc. But lately my money just seems to disappear for
