It's a pretty big snowstorm...but being from Upstate NY, you should be used to big snows!
True enough. Last year we did not see ground for almost three months. Had 2 feet on Christmas and another 2 feet the week after. Oh well, nothing I can do about it... Hopefully tonight shall be the end of the Carinoids, at least one of their planets. I will soon have ten transports loaded and waiting for the main assault fleet to do its work bringing down the defenses.

Thanks. I am playing on beginner for this first go round. Yes, it is the Carinoids. The starbase is not in the sector. It is from left to right, their planet white sector border then my base just on the other side. There is only one ship icon distance between the planet and the base but the border runs between. Would the starbase be effective or must it actually be in the same sector? I did not know I could dismantle it. That is a great idea once I am done with them. I have destroyed al
Oh! Forgot a question! I read that there must be an active internet connection at the end of the game if you want to register on metaverse. I use a dial-up connection. Do I have to estimate when it would finish, alt-tab, sign on, and finish game.... Maybe I am confused... I should finish up this weekend (hopefully winning) and would like to post (unless I lose, then I'll hide in shame ;) ). Thanks John
Thanks Ray and Theoden for the warm welcome! I am still new to GalCiv so I am sure there will be some questions, in fact there are some that will follow. I will add that Theoden's responses to my inquiries on empire selection aided greatly in the recruitment, as well as my fondness for LoTR. Ray, I served as an Infantry officer in the US Army. I started as an enlistee and made it to Officer Candidate School. In one of my courses I was proud to serve with an infantry lieutenant from
Thanks. That is the one I found earlier today while at work :) I appreciate everyone's advice and directions to where to find the info. As you can see, I made my choice. In the Fellowship I am..... John
What branch? I was in the US Navy. The Fellowship's emperor (Ray the Wanderer) is an officer in the Singapore military.
I was in the US Army. I was in the infantry; too long I should say. I still look at landscapes and think of tactics to defend or attack. Does the Fellowship have limitations on alignment? I am sort of evil right now, in my current game, but would be the kind of player who would vary the playstyle both for learning and fun (and a bit of rolepl
I have been checking some of the threads and empire sites on and off. You are right, they do have slightly different slants. I think I shall at least finish the game I have going and keep researching a bit. Your comments regarding the Fellowship are well noted and I have found some good advice already in the threads. Being ex-military also and an avid TBS and RTS gamer I do enjoy good tactical/strategic discussions...
So am I. I kick off some reports in Crystal reports and then come back to the forum. Get them when there done, start new ones, and come back. Nice job actually...
What a great idea this is! As a new player just beginning to ask about empire affiliations, I went to the encyclopedia first to find out about empires and found nothing. I finally found the listings through the metaverse. An encyclopedia entry would be a great idea, especially for newcomers.
Go to the screen which has the sliders for your taxes, spending, etc and click on the Society tab. It will bring up a display of your alignment.
Thanks. I was in the right area but did not check the indicated tab thoroughly. Will check later... too bad I can't play at work ;)
I have registered my game and have registered on stardock. I also have downloaded stardock central (very nice program, very nice). I will be researching the empires as suggested (even though I am running as evil right now, I won't always be..I tend to role play based on my setup) but I am leaning toward your offer Admiral Mayito 7777 :) With regard to the metaverse... does one post all games or only winners? Off I go to check into it further.... I have been having
Being new to the game I have some questions about the whole empire thing. How many games need to be posted before one can join? I am currently working on my first full game. I have restarted a few times as I have learned after making obvious blunders. Are there alignment requirements to join different empires? Are the empire's members scores added together to have a "strongest empire"? Just curious...gotta shop around ;) If anyone is curious I am curren
Personally, I think I'm going to rewrite the Event text. The idea that some nut with a wrench and a grudge can take out the heavily guarded leader of one of the galaxy's most powerful civilizations just makes me cringe. (I don't mind being forced into a war with an ally as the result of some unforeseen, random event, I just want to be able to believe the event COULD actually occur.)
I have no problems believing what "one nut" can be capable of. Just look at our own hist

Pricing really is a problem. I wanted the game but also could not afford the download time on a modem. I searched a bit and found it at gamestop.com for $19.95 ($23 with shipping). Seems like the download purchase should be cheaper than the retail to me.... I will say though, that I downloaded stardock central and ran the updates using that on my 56k modem and found it fast enough. I cannot imagine trying to download the entire game. I will be buying the expansion but will
