Well, it's supposed to be about the logistics techs, but I must say, I agree with all of the above. Logistics is o.k., IF the AI might need it. There really should be a whole tech-tree worth of techs for it because resources are VERY important in masochistic games, I have found. A fully developed resource garners (%xx?) bonuses, more than triple most galactic achievements! C'mon! Perhaps the resources should have an effect locally, radiating, and diminishing, outwards. Or something. And

O.k., so I take back the bit about 'far easier' to have a high military rating. In my current masochistic game, the Torians and Drengin tech-traded to Dreads just as I got Corvettes off the assembly line. My rating was not comparable. However, if the AI isn't that far ahead, I'd still vote for having a military rather than paying bribes, cost-wise. -Smack

I was thinking about this and thought I should mention another cheap trick... 3 scouts manouvered in front of a speed 2 colony ship will reduce it's progress to 1 square/turn. 5 scouts will stop a speed 2. Place them in a line in front of the wave of colony ships. 5 scouts will reduce a speed 3 colony ship to 1 square of progress. And so on. Often you can buy time with these tactics, IF you are silly enough to have that many scouts/drones in the neighborhood.

The best thing for creating culture is people. Do whatever it takes to get a toehold in an enemy empire and they fall like dominoes after that. I don't really reccomend colonizing a 13-14 actually IN their sectors, but get one in a neighboring sector and then plop down a starbase right there. You'll multiply your influence, which will be much higher because you have a base of population. The AI won't demand the starbase because they don't have a planet in that sector. I always think of

Hmm. No military? Or just home defense fleets? I'll make the distinction. No military is a bit strange if you ask me. Unless you happen to be on everyone's good side, which happened in my last crippling game. Had good and evil empires at 'warm', 'close, or 'friendly'. Glad I didn't ally with any of them! Anyways, I still had orbiting corvettes at each planet, and later, orbiting anti-matter-missiles. Turns out, I didn't need them (as Sirian would say, 'cardboard cutouts' of a defense fl

Starbases: In 1.19, the enemy will sometimes build two starbases right next to each other. One on a resource, and one next to it. This seems to be a bug as they are from the same empire. Not sure if this holds in 1.2. -Smack

After hitting Ctrl-N a few times, just to get a nicely shaped Gigantic map, I had a 26 in my home system. Without Luck. I do usually take luck, and do often find a 26 within a few sectors. Who knows? I'd really like to know! It would also be very interesting to know if it did affect random events. Don't care so much about Rangers, though it's a fun surprise. -Smack

the only other thing that could be preventing my uploads is the Zone Alarm artifact. It's notorious for being near-impossible to un-install, and I've had some problems with it since. Perhaps it's time to get out my ghost image and reformat the C drive. Any other ideas? What's the protocol that the upload uses? I suppose I could monitor the ports...hmm.. -Smack

I have the very same problem. I've tried various emails/names that I've registered and re-registered with. None produce anything but the above result. The one thing that might be a little odd with my setup is that the game isn't on drive 'C', but is on another drive. I've had this mess with other games before. Plays fine, uploads No. -Smack

Hrm. I also don't like this new scaling price scheme. It IS very artificial. Sure, cultural wins are too easy, but the whole point of starbases is that they can support multiple types of wins! Instead, lets have a good old maintenance fee for starbases. With culture, just make influence 50% as effective at flipping stars. All will be well then. Question: Would it be fairly straightforward to make this fix as a mod? I havn't yet looked into the files... Fix this artificial starb
