if you have no OS installed and your still getting error messages it could mean your bios needs re-setting.

uninstall the flash 10 active x and the flash 10 plugin from your programs list. get flash 9 here http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1 hope that helps
try emptying your temporary files folder. on vista that is c/users/yourname/appdata/local/temp. can`t remember xp. you may need to select show hidden folders from the folder options.
i do believe if you install the trial version of power DVD, it will install the mpeg codecs you need to play dream files. i may be wrong but i`m sure i did that when i 1st got vista.
