I used IconPackager through Impulse and a lot of my icons have now changed to blank images. Even the shortcut to Impulse! I've changed it to default Windows Icons in IconPackager and repaired, rebuilt etc, but no luck. I am using Vista. Even if I right click, properties, and manually change the icon it doesn't hold. HELP. Thank you.You need to download Stardock Central, install Iconpackager through SDC then uninstall it and reboot your computer.

Most people would uninstall via Windows' Programs and Features, which should work ok I think... not sure. Are we going to get an update from the dev's at all about these missing icon problems?
Yes. It does not rectify my situation.
I have a support ticket that has been on hold for quite some time now, the ID is #PEQ-545409 btw. IP was installed via Impulse, and it was the most recent non-beta release. I also uninstalled it using the same version. Re-installing it fixed the blank icons on my Start Menu and Windows Explorer (doesn't make sense), but certain 16x16 icons were left permanently blank, such as ones displayed on the systray, or on system tool apps such as AutoRuns, etc. I believe the 16x1
I'll try to say this in the nicest possible way. The developers should apologise for their shoddy work in implementing an uninstaller, and should compensate for this problem by offering a tool to fix our icons X-( Everyone seems to be experiencing the same problem, so why continue to treat it on an individual basis via snailpaced e-mail. Is this problem to do with how Vista handles icons? or is this specifically app related? It would be great to get some insight i
I do not think it was misplaced, but I look forward to hearing what they have to say, and also how the next version performs.
I have Vista and didn't have all of the problems you had. I'm not saying that they are not real or that they don't need to be addressed but Stardock is out to make money and fully functional apps are their way of doing so. I find it hard to believe that they would release buggy software to the masses without testing. In fact, I know it's the case.
Regarding the issues, you just stated [b]"I'm not saying that they are not real or that they don't need to be addressed"[/b
That's because they released this product without testing to see if the basic functions work. That is not the case. The QA folks at Stardock are top notch as are the developers and the beta testers that are such a huge part of the Stardock "team'. PCs are complex and you can never test every interaction of HW and SW.If you are having trouble, create a case by emailing . Give as much information about your OS and the version of IP that you are using. make reference t

harrison1701: that's pretty much the route I'm taking now. I was a fan of Stardock's stuff back in 2006, and decided to renew my sub because I wanted to see how much progress they made with Vista integration, but it is clear that they're not pulling their weight. Have they officially stated the problems they are experiencing with fully integrating their apps with Vista? it all seems really quiet on their front, they should at least warn users about the problems and label the affected ap
Glad to know that the new BETA release actually fixes the activation bug, also my Windows Live Folders are now displaying properly. Now all I need to work out is why some of my 16x16 icons are still displaying as generic icons.
@ c242: sounds like it is getting confused with how it designates certain icons, does it do it with all Icon Packs or just a few in particular? Where's the support Stardock? why hasn't something so clumsy like the activation bug been fixed yet? this is very sloppy work on the part of your dev's! IconPackager needs to make appropriate backups and ensure that when it defaults to the Windows Icons, everything is back to normal, and I mean normal, exactly the way it was [B]p
Ah, I get you. I had the same Start Menu problem, but that fixed itself after a re-install of version 4 and then rebuilding the Icon Cache. We shouldn't need to re-install the app in order to fix this though. It is totally rediculous. Regardless of its recent updates, the software still does not fully support Vista and should be labeled as BETA on their site. The problem with my systray icons still remain and I haven't got a clue how to rectify this. Stardock S
Weird, so going back to an older and unsupported version of IP actually 'fixes' some of these issues? That is.. shocking.. to say the least. Are you referring to the 16x16 problem specifically? I'm actually running the Windows Default theme on those shots, easily mistaken for Diamond though, because I changed the colour of it in Windows Color and Appearance. Cheers, P.
I've sent an e-mail to but thought it might be interesting to compare my experiences with others. I know that most of these points have been brought up before at some time or another, but I believe we should be more vocal about such issues. These problems have all been experienced with a fresh install of Vista SP1 Ultimate. 1). IconPackager does not automatically apply any custom Control Panel icon in Start Menu Ic
