OKAY... I know this is comin' at ya late, but better than never.... The Zen Barons played The Toad Tavern on Friday and I KNOW that most of you didn't go to the show....for whatever reason. Despite the crappy rainy night, it was warm and rockin' inside The Toad. I always have a great time watchin these guys. And

Ryan’s final show with Strange Condition was a wonderful send-off. It was a good last minute crowd! Thanks to all of the local bands who showed up – Carolyn’s Mother, Tequila Mockingbird, Rubber Planet… I am sure there were more, but I have not met or seen every band in town yet. I am looking forward to expanding

THE MARCH 19 SHOW IS NOT CANCELLED! BE THERE For those of you who read the previous blog entry on Tuesday, Ryan has chosen to leave the band. Ryan told me the March 19 show is his last with Strange Condition. <!-- Ju-

Congratulations to Strange Condition for placing FIRST in the online battle of the bands! For those of you who did not get an email from Strange Condition on Tuesday, Ryan has chosen to leave the band. The details of his departure are unclear and not being discussed at this time. The email states that Ryan is pursuing musical opportunities better fit to his interests. The cancellation of the March 19 show is a disappointment to us all, but

Happy Tuesday all! Sorry this entry is so late. I have found it is getting increasingly more difficult to find time to write about the rest of the world while I am working and going to school. All that aside, it was great to see the turn out on Friday for The Fong Jones Band's show at The Blue Mule. They got started a little later than planned, but it placed them in prime time. They played as th

What a smashing show it was! The crowd was MASSIVE and WILD. The music consumed the crowd, the air was electric. Once again, the performance was superb! Nutty Nutty! N E W S Strange Condition did win the Battle of the Bands in Colorado Springs, and will be returning to T

Last night, a few of us made the trek to Colorado Springs to support Strange Condition in the Budweiser Battle of the Bands. They ROCKED! I'm exhausted. I think it's the earlliest I've seen them play in nearly a year. The stage was so small, we were sure someone was going to fall off. We took off after their set, but I know they were the best group ther

Happy Monday! What a great weekend this was! The turnout was awesome and The Dove was packed! The Demon Funkies got the night rollin'. I have seen them play once before and enjoyed them. Looking forward to seeing more of this band around, hopefully out of the early spot. Voodoo Brown took the stage around 10

I have, for many months, been accompanying THE NIKI JENEWEIN PROJECT to Guitar Church on Mondays at the Mead Street Satation. Last night, as always, Niki was awesome. It is only a 4 song set. As soon as she began, the noise reduced immensely and a few people even paused their conversations to listen. With the voice of an angel, Niki is one of the biggest attractions at Mead Street on Mondays. The second best part? It is FREE. Make sure you check ou

I started the night at Herman's, actually. I was there to see Devouring Saturn before adjourning to The Soiled Dove for an evening of acoustic sets. I really enjoy this band. They've got a very deep sound and June sings some heavy lyrics. I also had the unfortunate experience of sitting next to 3 people who a) wouldn't stop talking and b) had absolutely nothing nice to say. I was appalled. These people were supposed to be friends with one of the musicians on stage. Now, I am perfectl

SHOWS SHOWS SHOWS! EXCITING, FANTASTIC, FABULOUS SHOWS. WHERE TO SEE AND BE SEEN. IT'S WHERE ALL THE COOL PEOPLE ARE. Okay, enough. By now you all should get it, do it and be it. If you're not, then you're L7. Or you're not paying attention. TIME TO OPEN YOUR EYES AND EARS TO WHAT DENVER HAS TO OFFER!!! I am adding 2 new bands to the site this month. Plastic Parachute and Sandcreek. Holla! Watch for reviews. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T ALREADY KNOW WHERE TO BE IN FEBRUARY.

First off, somehow my music category is missing. Oh well. Second, J with ORDINARY POETS son was rushed to Children's Hospital... well, here, you read the email they sent out: hello everyone, well those of you that were excited about seeing Ordinary poets today in Ft Collins and Saturday nite at the Soiled Dove will have to wait for our show March 12. J's son Miles was rushed to Childrens Hospital yesterday to have an Emergency Surgery....he is recovering

Are my reviews becoming redundant? Gosh, I hope not. My hope is that they inspire you to support, if not the Denver music scene, then your own local artists and entertainers. All of these bands work normal 8-5 day jobs (in some cases more than one job), and do this because they love the music. Have I said how much I hate it when people show up to a venue and then act like they're having a horrible time????? WE DON"T WANT THAT NEGATIVE ENERGY IN THE ROOM SO IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO ENJO

For starters, the turn out was awesome for the "Rockers for Kids" benefit concert at the Gothic. Plastic Parachute rocked. They're a great band, a little on the punk side. Great to see them appear for the cause. Wendy Woo came, played, left. So much for being a part of the benefit. Nina Storey didn't bother to show because Star Search is more important than Kids who need care.....???? I will apologize now for not remembering the names of the female-fronted blues band. I'm

Upon arriving at the Starlight last night, we were greeted by a tiny venue for HUGE bands. Such a disappointment they couldn't fit more people in the door. It was an all ages show, which is always a treat. It's always awesome to get the younger crowd. They are the future of album sales and contract decisions! The Fong Jones band went on stage about 8:30. I really appreciate the fact that the show doesn't lose any value or energy despite the fact that it was an early show. I think th

HOW COULD YOU MISS THIS SHOW???? I know, it was a school night! I'm okay with that as an excuse, but not as a reason! I, too, must make sure I get my beauty rest. I carry a load of work AND school. I still find the time to go to these shows, and have yet to find a reason that overpowers an excuse as to why I didn't go. With that said, I really believe that every band should play the Little Bear. Talk about your intimate concert setting. I also believe that everyone should see a band a

Hey, Hey. Happy Wednesday! I have decided to create a listing here so the FANS can have quick access to a compilation of monthly venues for the BEST BANDS IN DENVER. I am also working on a website to do the same. All that I have found seem to be terribly incomplete, and it's frustrating trying to find out when and where the BEST are playing. I am amazed. I believe that was one of the best, if not THE BEST show I have ever seen The Fong Jones Band play. The crowd was decent and the air was ELECTRIC. I had a lot of fun. This band will be HUGE in no time, mark my words! If you missed this show, it may behoove you to not miss another! They play the Little Bear in Evergreen on January 21st and with Strange Condition in 4 upcoming shows! The first two are : The Starlight in Ft. Collins on January 24 and Herman's Hid

So the concert at the Gothic came off superbly. This group never ceases to amaze me. They seem to get better every show. As for those of you who missed it, you missed out on the energy and excitement this band emits. The turn out for this show was awesome. Finally, they were able to reach a younger crowd. The expressions on their faces and the energy they fed back to the band was absolutely amazing! I know I can't say enough wonderful things about this band. I know you all wi

I have to begin by telling you that any night of the week is a good night to support local music. This includes Tuesday, especially when it's the night before a HUGE party night. With that said, you missed a great show. True to form, The Project was a hit. I am sorry for all of you who care to stay in your safe little worlds on Tuesday nights. You all are missing out on the best artists Denver has to offer. Niki and crew know how to get 'em moving. Now, I realize that Pink-e's

So this is HUGE. The Denver music scene is swiftly becoming popular, thanks mostly to the wonderful musicians that live in the beautiful state of Colorado. Here's a run-down of my personal favorite groups: Strange Condition - Rapidly becoming one of the most popular local bands. These guys will go places, and I'm behind them all the way. Their next show is January 2 at the Gothic. Big steps for these guys. They put on a hell of a show. It's very difficult to describe, and defin
