And yes, i know your referring to the Gov't and not individuals, just having a dig at you
Glad I could provide the entertainment! ;)
Laws differ between Countries - clearly - but as I understand it in the US, there is a finite time for copyright. There appears to have been some transition clauses put in for the 1978 changes, but nontheless, it appears to me that there are time limits. As always of course there will be difference of views on what they should be and their circumstances, that'll never change, but there appears to be time limits.
You are correct, however I would say that it is an infinite
I love how American's always get up in arms about their freedoms but more than any nation in the last few years has progressively given up more.. All in the name of a farcial 'war on terror'.. good times!
I resent that comment! ;) I will make fun of any country that does something as assinine as this, and that includes my country of America. Trust me I have been making lots of fun and unsavory comments about America lately and all of the deserved I assure you!
We will never see another Fantasia, because we have made it impossible for a small, creative company to *ever* produce another Fantasia. And that's a damn shame.
Amen to that Brotha! ;) Exactly why copyright should be the same as patents, a finite time to hold something in a monopoly/hostage!
Wrong! Please read: http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/ . You are correct in regard to patents however a patent is not the same as copyright never has been. The patent system is the way it should work and is what I have been saying all along. If you want protection you register and then you have it for a finite amount of time. Allegations mean nothing, people are making allegations all over this forum, I can make all the
Its simple, if someone believes they stole their original idea, that they either copywrited or held the patent, they sue under the relevant law. If they lost the legal case, tough, thats the way life goes. If they never registered the idea under the relevant legislation in the first place, then they have no claim.
Really so you are saying that if no one challenges you then you are doing nothing wrong? I thought we all just got done saying its wrong whether anyone c
First of all Disney is not making a parody. Copyright has a specific clause for paroday and parody only. In fact Disney is not even changing or reinterpriting the source material in most cases. Plus parody is not the same as using the content for your own profit, and it is definitely not seen the same by the law which is what we are talking about. Second did I even specifically state the Gimm brother fairy tales, as those are not even the the worst
So define what that point is - when is "when the money has been made"? Disney makes a ton of money re releasing old movies and cartoons they had made 50 or more years ago - they made them - why should they release the copy write to someone else? Its nonsense.
Uhm you didn't really want to use Disney as an example did you? Or did you just not think it though? Disney does nothing but use others ideas and in a lot of case pays absolutely nothing for it and has m
Chat away - no worries, I'm well into that - you'll not get anything significant out of me on the legals though, I have no real depth of knowledge of the US system, only the outlines, and dont pretend otherwise. Government belief, well I guess I've been there a few times, I tend to be Right of Atilla the Hun on a few things Fair and Just? Hmmmmm seem to remember this charactor ....... George III?? *Runs like Hell*
He he he he:D Good stuff!
The process is there via the Courts if you think there is a case, but it going to have to be a real doozey, this stuff has been through those guys so many times its unreal - all the way up to the Supreme Court. Patent / CopyWrite Law goes through both House of Representatives, and The Senate, with The Supreme Court sniffing around in the background. Whilst there's always the case that something new crops up ..... if its the old arguments I would suggest you will waste your time... but
I hear the thoughts on Copy Write V Patent, and I dont know the reasons. However one thing I am sure of, this stuff gets tested so often in the Courts there will be a rationale for it, and despite popular opinion Corporates don't own the Courts of Law so rulings are absolute not biased.
Before I continue on this I just want to clarify something as I don't think we are on the same page so to speak. I am not claiming that the current laws don't state something speci
I wouldn't argue that the bulk of personal employment is not corporate, however there are very very few independent movie or music companies. In fact the MPAA and RIAA pretty much control it all and that the problem when I say corporate intrest that is what I am refering to. So my point still stands. True and I am speaking from the US stand point not overly familiar with UKs copyright. Ok regardless should I have to get permission from the cars designer? No, in
I guess I don't agree or even see that as a valid reason. Somehow up until 1972 everyone was perfectly happy with I do believe 20 years total, I could be wrong will have to look it up when i have a chance. So are we saying somehow those individuals were screwed? I think not I would bet that the main reason that even changed was due to corporate intrest. Not only that but I also believe that music, movies, art, and so on are no different than any other product once you
Yeah I really enjoyed it, the guy has good reason to not like the law. I mean why does and why should copyright last the creators lifetime plus 70 years! That is just plain absurd and really only there for corporate intrest. Can you imagine not ever having Shakespear or countless other items from other greats in the public domain? Unacceptable!
This is great! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJn_jC4FNDo
I think the real problem is being missed. Copyright/intellectual property laws are the problem the are out of control and need to be changed. There is some merit to some of the laws but even most of those are taken way to far.
Lets hope this takes off and the catalog grows and grows! Although with some of the software companies out there we may never see some really good classics.
Couldn't happen to a nicer jackass....oops i mean guy! ;)
Well looks like all the reason I need not to ever live in Austrailia. I really don't nee the government protecting me and my children. Damn what a bunch of idiots.
Psychoak, at least someon gets it! ;)
Wow DarkKnight your ignorance and close mindedness are mind numbing! First I want to say I never said I pirated anything, what I did say is that I think copyright/intellectual property laws have issues and need to be fixed. <span style="font-size: 7
Uhm DarkKnight I think you need to read what you typed, because if i read correctly you were calling names as well, calling pirates assholes. Now you may think that the intelectual property thing is black and white, but not all people do. Not to mention just because something is law doesn't make it right, do we need an education on laws that are repealed because they are found to be wrong/excessive? What I find irrational about you is you refuse to see or listen to anything
Stardock gets it alright they make a product worth buying and sell it and people buy it (lots of people), no need to break down doors waving the piracy flag.
Wow DarkKnight is a scary scary guy! Thank goodness there are other rational individuals out there to counter his inane ramblings!
Wow another shining example of why politicians are a waste. Copyright is way out of control, not that there shouldn't be something but the way it is currently is just terrible.
