" You will know where the stars are. But it's not likely, even by the 23rd century, that we'll know of good planets (yellow stars) hundreds of light years away. " - Draginol After some thoughs, I find this statement a little strange: unless I am mistaken, we cur
I have been watching what order the other races research tech and trying to get a handle on the tech tree
You can get this info without resorting to using cheat keys: the debug.err file is your friend :)
I forgot to mention, you can rename AI ships
I think that this is an intended behavior. It helps you too keep track of ships or starbase when trying to purchase them on the diplomacy screen. [Message Edited]

Not sure, but I think I have read this problem before and I think to remember that the problem may lie in the codec drivers for the .bink file, or something like that. I am pretty sure that CariElf can help you with this. BTW, have you read the first post in the sticky thread about sound problems/frequent crash problem? Since You got a new computer, a bad driver that come with the computer can explain this kind of behavior. Since you have broadband, you surely can dowload the w
No, you do still own it. There is supposed to be a way for you to get the last version before your subscription expired, but I guess it isn't in place yet.
I guess for this bevahior to work you need: - to memorize what game a user have download (for being able to redownload the game after a hard sik crash) - have all versions of the files on line, with the associated xml file, in order to find and recover the version that was available when the subscription ended<br
As I understand it, negative, say Speed, isn't possible within the tech file; and ability calls only yield a 10% change (positive).
Why do you want some techs with a negative effects? [Message Edited]
How do I fight those evil races that keeps sending over death knights and combat transports?
Well, it is better to avoid being dragged into wars. A busy AI is a nice trading partner: if they are all fighting themself, who will be the lucky one to get all freighter from them ? :) You can bribe AI to attack weaker. And AI tend to avoid to fight all civilizations. If they are dragged into war with the rest of the galaxy, they will make some peace.

Well, you should try the following: Comm theory -> universal translator (to communicate with AI) -> diplomacy (to change governement) Medical theory -> basic environnement control (for habitat improvement) industrial theory nanoelectronics -> stellar cartography (to know where yellow stars are located) You can generally get trade with tech exchange. You cas safely reserach yellow and green tech, since they aren't in AI priority list. And for social improvement, try t
Built 20, or so, low cost starfighters early to keep yourself looking strong so that the AIs don't think you're an easy target;
Honestly, I play at maso with no military and all AI set to evil. So I got sometimes the AI demanding tribute. I generally accept the demand. But sometimes I refuse (the relation drops) and give them something different (the relation improves). But when I become an economic giant with all AIs trading with me, the life is much more easy, with no demand
so the ai have advantages over you even on low levels?
small advantages, but they don't take 10 picks like you at the beginning.
I'm now playing on normal AI with a medium galaxy and it's about 5 years into the game
That it isn't few turns in my book. Few turns from the beginning corresponds generally to the early colonization phase.
I only have a few techs the ai dosen't have and they usually have more techs that I don't have[/quote
You know I have also noticed a lot of unrest on all my planets. They're getting worse and the people are pretty pissed. I've tried a few things like making spies of my own and building more military
Contrary to some 4x games, spies and military haven't really an influence on morale. If you want to have planet with good morale you need: - avoid too high taxes rate - have a positive treasury - build all PQ and morale improvements (as long as their maintenance isn't
so at intellegent the whole thing is balanced?
Well at intelligent, the AI get approximatively as no specific additionnal bonus in collecting taxes. And they have a reasonnable behavior in diplomacy. But I don't know what balanced mean between a human an AI computer since there are some tricks (very useful at maso level) that really help the human and that the AI will never use
what about all those pluses on that guy's link?
They exists, it is

If you are speaking about the pick at the beginning of a game, it is the english.str file. And don't forget that any change you made are available to the AI ... BTW, increasing economics too much isn't really important since there are some limitations about the revenues from a planet
And last again, what's the smartest level for the ai to get no advantages over you nor cheat
difficult since : - The AI get starting bonus at each level - at low level, AI get less BC from economy than you. At higher level, they are more efficient than you.

I am assuming that you are playing the latest version of Galciv/AP downloadable with Stardock central You might want to look at this thread for AI starting bonus http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=194613
I'm playing on intellegent and find that the minor races are pumping out 1 colony ship per turn
How are you sure it is 1 per turn? But with proper spending and tech (100% spending, 100% military and republic governement), I can building a colony ship
1) Copy every folder that is on your computer for galciv, and burn all of them to a CD. You can then install it on any computer you like.
I think it is better to use the archive feature of Stardock Central and burn the SDC archive (as well has the intall of SDC if needed) to a CD. You surely don't want to handle yourself the registry keys :)
Ever since I applied the latest patch the game has been periodically choosing turns to crash on.
Strange. I know that the latest patch corrected a similar problem. What is exactly the version number given by Stardock Central? If I understand correctly, when using Stardock Central, it show you that you have the latest patch for AP. BTW, how have you got AP? Buying it or with totalgalming.net? If the latest, has it expired?
