This is a good game for three or four days, but thats it. Lifespan is very very short without multiplayer game. Well, some people may disagree when considering GC1 (relased in feb 2003) and how long they have played to it. BTW, hs some people have said, not everybody can find the time to play long gaming session, especially those who have

since it's so time-consuming for the most part, but this could be corrected by allowing the player to design his ships beforehand Well, there may be a minor problem: how will you tailor your design to the specificity of the game your are laying. Being able to design ship while waiting for opponent to play may do the trick.

Maybe it has rushbought using Mitrosoft and others AI fund him with money. BTW, I think it is on the gamespy review that he reviewer has experienced deception from an AI. So maybe the AI isn't stupid but is manipulated by another.

As far as the money issue goes, it doesn't get "converted" into cash, but the effect is the same: every point of production capacity, whether it's military, social, or research, costs 1bc/turn to actually produce something. But if you aren't producing anything of that type on a world, the game is aware of that and doesn't charge you for the idle factory/empty lab/whatever<

for regular multiplayer you just need to add an adjustable turn timer in case someone is taking too long. If you can work a deal out to include ventrillo or teamspeak (or some kind of in-game voice chat) then the live turn-based games tend to solve the turn-time problems automatically (you're gonna get yelled at and you'll have to explain yourself).

Well, I have tried the method put by SmackleFunky : - Launch GC 2 in cheat mode - start a small universe with 1 opponent - at the first turn: - clear the FOW (CTRL + U) - clone enough colony ship (CTRL + C) - teleport them near colonizable planets (CTRL + T) - Colonize all planets except one, which need to be reachable by the AI colony ship but outside its sensor range - Create a battle ship (CTRL + B) near the ennemy flagship. Upgrade it

BTW, I think there is a big problem scrolling, one that has been spotted during the beta and that may explain why it isn't in this game: the fact that the game can be played in a windowed mode, allowing you to move the mouse out of the window to another one. But you don't want in that case to have your map focus changed. And how will the computer know that you want to scroll or that you want to move the cursor to another window? That could be very tricky.

First, great game! I am hooked. However, I am sorry, I know this has been said before, but not being able to scroll diagonally is horrible. I was somewhat shocked. I beg you to fix this, because I have some sort of mental block about not being able to scroll diagonally and it causes much mental anguish. Why don't you try to zoom out, change foc

To original poster - Isn't it clearly stated in the manual that all other races except humans start with maps of the universe and humans, because they are new, must yet explore? There is even written "start the game as another race and watch AI humans struggle with exploration". did you try that? Well, this means that some races starts with stellar

THANK YOU. This issue is not hard to resolve because of what he says. Just use the cheat mode, unhide fog of war and watch. You will see the AI send scouts around FIRST. Frogboy, I hate to have to tell you so, but having something that works correctly with cheat codes enabled and FOW lifted doesn't give a 100% guarantee that it works the sam

This is the most infuriating bug in the game for me. Yes, the manual contradicts the game on that point. And it was spotted during the beta in December. But we don't have any official word from Stardock on this subject. And it might be a gamaplay change.

except people are going out on a limb and saying "oh, turning on that cheat might all of a sudden cause the AI to do exactly what they are supposed to"... thats sounds more like a plea for an excuse to be correct than anything else, and definately no proof that that could be the case. Well, maybe I wasn't clear enough: I was trying to point out that

I think you all should give the programmers the benefit of the doubt that they have, indeed, created an AI that is smarter than you are (no offense intended). Strangely, it is my position. But if some people report stange behavior, then tests and investigations are needed in order to have a proof of a buggy behavior if there is one.
