Well, I have to give the folks at the Louisiana Vital Records office credit. According to the site through which I placed the order, my birth certificate should arrive here via UPS sometime today.

Florida's DMV is notoriously inefficient. One can make an appointment online and get through quicker, but without an appointment you stand in line and wait while those with appointments go ahead of you. Maddening. The documentation is required by the Real ID Act, which went into effect, at least here in Florida, the first of this year.
I got myself a load back down to Florida so that I could renew my commercial driver's license, which expires a week from tomorrow. Without it I can't earn a living in my chosen profession. I got to the DMV office, stood in line for about 90 minutes, finally got to the "check in" lady and was informed that due to Federal regulations which went into effect the first of the year I needed to provide a whole slew of documents. Tonight finds me in Lebanon, IN. I am on my way to Jacksonville, FL with an over weight load. I had a very close call today. As I was driving my rig up I-294 in Illinois just relaxing and enjoying the day I suddenly heard tires screeching on pavement. Turns out I really screwed up by mentioning the customer's name in the article. That's something I have always avoided in the past and I did so here without thinking. The article came to their attention and they were less than happy about being mentioned by name. I've been warned the boss will be calling me onto the carpet on Monday and I expect a good butt chewing at the least. As someone who has been through a lot of physical/medical ... "trials", I can tell you that getting angry about it or doing the old "why me?" thing doesn't accomplish a damn thing. At one point in my life I was blind because I was struck by lightening. The doctors didn't know if it would be permanent or not. I felt sorry for myself for about a week and got over it. After a couple of weeks of practice I came in second in a darts tournament (with a spotter). Luckily my sight did return

After getting my truck out of the repair shop in MN on Thursday morning I headed over to western WI to pick up a combine at a small farm. It was raining hard and I knew it wasn't going to be a lot of fun. I had recently purchased a Frogg Toggs rain suit at a Cabela's store. This was the first time I had worn it in a rain storm. If you are considering buying a rain suit do not buy this one! The rain soaked right through it as if it weren't even there. It was a total waste of money.

I just spoke with the garage and they are expecting the remaining parts around noon today. He said that if everything goes right (which it rarely does) the truck should be ready late today.
