It's imagery. As a poet i never use literal meanings of anything. Literal meanings are an unfortunate requirement of speech. When i write anything, especially poetry, I feel directly saying what you feel makes it dull. Poetry is like art, it’s not supposed to directly say anything, merely paint a picture that strikes emotion in others. If you can’t see past surreal descriptions of everyday things, you can’t fully appreciate poetry.
