Watch her real close, karen, hives are (of course) a sign of an allergic reaction that could get worse...even leading into anaphylactic shock, a life threatening condition requiring immediate emergency care. Pay special attention to her breathing, if she starts to wheeze or cough...get her to the vet and FAST That's what I was worried about.&n

The hives, that is. Grace is queen of the hives. She's covered in them. Grace slept on our bed last night. About 5am she got up and went and crashed in Jake's room - and about 7am Jake was knocking on our bedroom door saying that 'Gracie has these bumps all over her back'. We didn't even have to get up to know what they were. 'They're hives' he mumbled and rolled out of bed to check her out. Sure enough, she had bumps all over her back...and ove
*disclaimer for the dense: 'daft' is a British way of saying 'silly' in a good-natured kind of way. Read on, and you'll see why I'm saying it* My mum is coming to visit us next spring. We're really happy and excited to have her come and visit, it'll be the first time in a decade that we've seen her. She knows that we're excited about it, but she's being very British and very polite about the whole thing First of all, she asked 'do you think it'd be okay if I
That's a gorgeous pen, Mason. It looks like it's pretty ergonomically designed too - I have troubles writing with skinny pens because of my arthritis, so any pen that's fatter where you grip it at is perfect for me. Please do let us know how the quality is and how it writes. If it's everything you expect, I might just point Dave in the direction of that website. His fountain pens look just gorgeous.
Those are some lovely pens. I personally have asked for a fountain pen for Christmas. I learned to write with one and just like the way my handwriting looks when I use a nib. I've also asked for a new leather bound journal so I can put the fountain pen to good use!
Aww, poor Socrates! Still, he'll be better off for having had it done. No wandering and wailing and better still, no spraying. Tom cat pee is near impossible to get out of carpets and upholstery. Give him an ear rub for me, please?
Just so you know, it's 'Scotland'. There's only one 't'. I'm telling you 'cause I like you and I don't want you to look stupid.
Mincemeat pies and scones? Good LORD, you're British sometimes. Also, you mispelled y'all (proper contraction of "you" and "all"), which at least identifies you further North than the Mason-Dixon. Yeah, that was a mistake on my part that I didn't catch before I posted. I can't see properly out of one eye today, it's all red and sw
My kitchen has been a hive of activity this morning. It started with candy. I made some mint chocolate hard candy - it's chilling in the fridge as we speak. Once I've got the mince pies in the oven I'll take the candy out and break it into pieces, dust it with powdered sugar to stop it from sticking together and bag it. Next, I peeled and par-boiled some potatoes - I'm making roast potatoes for tomorrow's Thanksgiving lunch and I'm trying to do most (if not all) of
Our Boxer dawg, Gracie, likes to be outside. We have a tie-out for her right outside the back door, and when she's outside I leave the door open so I can see (for the most part) what she's up to. When she asked to go outside this morning, I let her out and then went to start some candy mix on the stove and make myself a cup of coffee. I figured that she'd been going outside by herself for weeks and hadn't gotten into a trouble so it'd be okay for me to leave her unatt
Aww! The poor little guy is going to think that you hate him...first you take his food away, then you take him to the vet and let them poke him and pinch him! It's all for his own good, but you just can't explain that to him. I do know what you mean about them being able to break your heart with a single look, though. Grace and Henry know they can do that to me and use it to their advantage....
This is one reason I think we need to do something to stop the spurious and vengeful investigations...because supervisors spend time chasing nothing while the true cases of abuse do not get the time and attention they deserve. I agree. You and I have both been victims of false reports made by neighbors or other people in the community wh
The Candy Ma'am Can, cause she mixes it with love and makes the world taste good. I like to make the pretzel rods too. I don't use a mold, ju
I have learned to check out where they are being shipped from. Yeah, I've taken to doing the same. It's paying off. Look out for the cost of stamps to go up again come January. Oh g
My local paper has been running a series of articles on DCFS and how it's failing to protect children in the area. I've been reading with horror about children who were left with abusive parents and who were subsequently either killed or damaged for life by these monsters posing as parents - but what horrified me even more was the fact that NONE of the DCFS workers who fell down on the job were fired. NONE. The worst that happened to one of them was a 9 day suspension - and
The party at fault here is the JURY. A jury which, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, rendered a racially motivated verdict of "innocent" for no good reason other than to take a public slap at our criminal justice system in retribution for the Rodney King verdict. I wrote an article saying pretty much the same thing, and I got told I
You got lucky. Oh yeah, I know that. I'm just tickled that something that was sent via bulk mail from 500 miles away got here faster than a letter sent first-class from 17 miles away. It seems like the price of a stamp keeps going up but the quality of service we recieve keeps declining.....
I've been making candy this week. I made some blackberry flavored hard candy last Friday and some cotton candy flavored yesterday. I made suckers and hexagon shaped candy pieces, and I also used a Jello 'Jello Bean' mold - the candy pieces that came out of that are the perfect size and shape (IMO). I also got a chocolate mold when I was at the cake and confectionery store. It's like a sucker mold, but instead of sucker sticks you put pretzel rods in it and ge
I don't use checks much anymore. Most of our bills are paid online; there are only two that need to be paid via paper checks. I only use checks at three stores - the commissary so I can write the check for a few dollar over to tip the bagger, the thrift store because they don't accept Visa, and the BX - we write checks there for cash to avoid the ATM fees (our primary bank account is in South Dakota and we get charged fees at all of the ATM's on base). Consequently, o
I'm sorry to hear that your friend passed away.
From what I've seen, most people in small town America go to church on Sundays because it's there and it's open. They go because that's what they've been doing their whole lives. Their parents did it, their grandparents did it...and so on, ad infinitum. It has less to do with being Christian and more to do with tradition. It's just what good people do, and they consider themselves good people, so they go. You've pissed them off Gid. You've come into their town, an outsider, and fro
Nic: I'm glad that she's on her way out. I know how frustrated you were with living next to her, especially with Kole being exposed to that kind of behaviour (How is that little cutie, anyway? I still have the postcard that she wrote her name on). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't retaliate too.... Zoo: They're gone, and I'm glad. It never ceases to amaze me that people who move from neighborhood to neighborhood
There are some people on our street who are moving house. Again. This is the latest in a series of moves for them, and that's just at this base. I don't know exactly how many times they moved at their last duty assignments, but I know that the moves were pretty frequent. Here, they've moved from on-base housing to off-base civilian housing, then they moved civilian houses twice before applying to come back on base again. Now they're moving to
Hindoo and Buddhist religions are pretty much the same way by what I gather. It's 'Hindu', and the same way regarding what? Hinduism has gods that people worship, and Buddhism doesn't really have any gods. Yes, we have statues and images of The Buddha, but we don't worship them. We bow to them out of respect - the Buddha was a man who atta
Here's to getting older, huh? I have similar problems with tolerances for sleep deprivation, alcohol and the effects certain foods have on me. Aint it just fekkin' grand? I can't do this too often. Dave asked me what I would do if I got called to go and sit with the same patient tonight. I said that if that were to h
