the only thing that differs is their way of extinction and how long they dominated for....

There is never a no win Scenerio... Sure some may take a little longer and have more casualties along the way but anything is acchievable if one sticks at it long enough...

read a few messages and I want to expand a little bit on why I join Empires and Jump Empires.

When I started playing the beta of GC for windows I was still playing the OS/2 version of the game. I play for fun and enjoyed this product for many years.


I could stayed as a lone player and I see no reason why I would stop playing GC.

The concept of the Metaverse was added to the game and my way of thinking said so what, but when Paguma asked me to join the CSF I thought why not.

I must admit I had more fun than I thought I would have. The CSF was active and many of us were playing the game.

but...

People naturally get tired of playing the same game and there was only a few active CSF members.

We tried the theme thing.. "Undead"... "Torian Recipes"

but there was only Damoose, Newfy and occassionally Paguma.

Sure there were other players but out of 117 players I a good month 5 people would submit a game.

I was getting tired of trying to support the CSF myself, got tired of the whole concept of a theme and started to think about leaving.

Keep in mind when I joined CSF I really did not have loyality but I did grow attached to the CSF so leaving was hard.

If I was going to playing in an Empire I wanted..

1) An Empire not bloated with 100 players that have not submitted a game in 6 months

2) An Empire without any silly themes

3) An Empire with players that like GC and are still playing

4) An Empire that can take first place in the Metaverse


I have nothing againest any Empire but these four points I was looking for.

The CSF failed on all points.

I concerned the Pirates I really liked the commitment they show to the game. Renegade

but... The pirate Empire seemed bloated and in decline.


The Guardians the most active empire was hard to pass on.
The only reason why I did not join the Guardians is because the really do not need me. Join the Guardians you do not have to compete because you are already the Top Ranked Empire.


The Diplomats were small, not bloated with dead weight, many members were active. I thought we could be the new Guardian Empire.

but

Today there are only a few players left that actually play,
even DW moved on.

So what is left for me to do go join the Guardians, well Newfy who left the CSF for many of the reasons I did is still a very active player and being a Ex CSF teaming up with Newfy seems like coming home in a way.

Will I jump again ?

Who knows maybe, Matthew Downie is talking about branching of trying to build a team to overthrow the Guardians it maybe fun.

Matthew, I am not intested in a themed empire such as you suggest. I would however be interested in an empire that would try to take on the Guardians.

Having some top names join such an empire could help draw existing players to a new empire.

Would a name change to my empire help draw people to it?

I do not have to be the empire owner either, right now it is just convenient.

I just chose this empire name so that my stats would show up in the Alternate Metaverse. I kept it Canadian because I am proud to be Canadian. Having said that, I am not commited to a Canadian theme or an empire name that remains Canadian.

I did not join other empires because most of them are in decline. Having a large score means little to me if no one is playing. I would like to participate in a 100% active empire.

Why all this animosity towards the fun loving Guardians. We are not the reason for anyone to form an empire. If you have no internal goal or loyalty, then I predict that your empire efforts will not succeed the way you would like. If you gather a bunch of people who are active, enjoy the game, and will play the game because they enjoy it, then you have a good chance of success, and, as a by product, may become number 1 in the metaverse. The Guardians learned through our own internal competitition (that some of you participated in) was detrimental to the empire, the competition wore people out and caused some ill feelings. The Meta is good and competation is good, if done in a good nature way. But, if competition is competition to kill off a successful empire, then that competition is harmful to the Meta and we all lose.

Weyrleader, I think that you are taking this out of context. Email or these electronic forums never convey the proper feeling or intentions of the poster.

I applaud the guardians in their commitment to GC and players both. No one actively dislikes the Guardians as far as I know.

I certainly respect the active guardian posters even if I disagree with their statements from time to time.

Mostly we are talking friendly competition and perhaps the Friendly point is not coming across as it should.

Points made by Techician and myself stating that we did not join your empire because it was already at the top.

If your empire was fighting for second or even tenth I would have joined it because of the camaraderie that you have.

I would like to be part of an empire that plays actively and for fun and wants to compete for position.

Call our Empire "The Geeks"

I'm not trying to kill off the Guardians, even though they killed off the Fellowship. I would like to overtake the Guardians, just for the challenge of it, but that doesn't mean destroying what was there.

Having said that, I think killing off a few old empires and starting afresh might be a good thing.


It might. I think many people seeing it will say to themselves, "I don't know what a Canuck is but I don't think I'm one."
And I don't think the Metaverse has room for two Canadian-themed empires.

Still no British Empire in the metaverse... Maybe that would be a good opportunity for an empire builder.

If I'm honest, what I really want is a place where people will read my stories and stuff, and maybe join in. I'm aware that this is not what most people are looking for.
A Writer's Empire? Hm. Probably a bit of a limited market.

More, I am not sure if such name will a positive effect on recruitment.

Doesn't sound very neutral to me. I want to create a place where people can bitch about the flaws in GalCiv. How come so many of the starbase upgrades have descriptions that don't fit in the box they go in, eh? I hope someone got fired for that one!

I would fit that description but I think that may alienate potential players.

How about the "Free-traders Guild" for an empire name?

Matthew could write his stories here with the them some where along the GC theme if he is interested?




I think that the European alliance kind of takes care of that. A separate British Empire is not neutral enough to gather players from more than one area.

Very few British feel as European as that. It's like expecting Canadians to join a North American Empire.


Anyone from a country that was at one time part of the British Empire; Indians, Singaporeans, Americans...


Not bad... But it's a bit bland. Like the Diplomats. Does anyone think it's exciting to be a diplomat? A diplomat is what a character in Star Trek becomes when he stops having exciting adventures.
I imagine the job of a trader is to get picked on by pirates and then rescued by galactic guardians.
