but first you have to get back to basics and actually have something of real substance by way of goods, services and a healthy workforce to sustain it..

I certainly agree with that! NAFTA didn't bring many blessings our way, and if it was so good for Mexico, how come they're coming here?

Also financial institutions need to be regulated, so that when they lose investors money and get themselves in the shit, they can't hike up fees, interest rates or renegotiate for higher loan/mortgage rates and inflic further finacial pain on the already suffering just to save their own bacon. That's it, you see, so long as their own positions/finances are strong, it's just other peoples money... well stuff that, make them responsible for peoples life savings, superannuatio/retirement fundsn and insurance policies, etc.

Absolutely! This started way back with the law that gave the markets free rein without regulation.

Anybody wanna shift to a happier note....?

End of Dr's quote

Geez well if it wasn't good for Canada or Mexico, who was NAFTA good for if it wasn't for the U.S.?

It was good for one thing, destroying the American economy and sending manufacturing jobs to China, Mexico, South America, etc.

NT and Starkers have my vote. That would be a better ticket. If Starkers wasn't from Oz....ahh what's the use.

My first course of action would be to outlaw minivans from traveling in any lane but the slow lane. If it is a 1 lane road, minivans would be required to pull over and let others pass.

My second course of action would be to outlaw remakes of old movies.

My 3rd course of action would be to add another day to the week. Golfday.

My 4th would be that bikinis are now to be considered business suits.

End of Night's quote

- Just remember, not just anyone can where a bikini, I wouldn't want to be throwing up every day when I go to work because everyone was wearing a bikini - just picture some old fart wearing a thong bikini but the back is in the front, front in the back.... UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!

Ok Ok, The bikini thing isn't popular.

See my administration listens.

In that case I propose that people with fat indexes beyond a certain amount are required to wear clown suits.

In late breaking news, the Henson Workshops are suing Sarah Palin.  According to a Henson spokesperson, Palin's lipstick wearing stuffed pig looks too much like Miss Piggy and is a copyright infringement... right down to the blond wig, fake eyelashes and "Yah ha" karate chopping.

When asked by a RAG TV reporter what she thought of the suit, Ms Palin stated that her pig was unique in that it wore only designer clothes, spoke several languages and only karate chopped Democrats, something that Miss Piggy did not do.  According to Ms Palin, Kermit was a loyal Republican yet Miss Piggy still chopped him, something her pig would not have done, nor would ever do,, and therefore her pig was/is totally different.

Ms Palin further went on to say that Miss Piggy was very, very similar to an old aunt on her mother's side, and that she is seeking legal representation to sue Henson Workshops for creating a pig that bore such a striking resemblance to a much loved family member without consent. Ms Palin will assert that Henson Workshops modeled Miss Piggy from a photographic likeness of her aunt when she won the Miss Sow County beauty pageant in 1979. and appeared in the Sow County Herald newspaper.

When I never hear Palin's name again, I will start to belive in progress. She should be treated like someone that shot up a school to gain fame. Their names should never be mentioned. Good press, bad press, no difference. The dumb people only hear her name and that makes her more popular.

Women that jumped ship just because she is a woman should be ashamed of themselves.

Ken, my dear friend..... this is the kind of piddly bickering that gets us nowhere. That's why I refuse to respond to asses that can't seem to seperate real issues from made up issues. Please don't get sucked into the petty disputing. I know you are way too smart for that.

Craig, both yours and seemingly contradictory. :)

I personally would've loved to see the Dems ccome up with a candidate that has a chance at making a difference.......I know Biden would make a difference but I'd prefer an improvement in conditions. As Far as Obama is concerned......the only qualification that makes him the Parties nominee is the fact he's a minority. If he wasn't, would he still be the best candidate in the democratic party? For the record I don't think Hillary would've been either. What a waste of an opportunity :(

In the end it'll just be another 4 years with a republican president..........could've been different.........

I agree. Say what you will about Al Gore but I think he would make a great President. He has integrity. Unfortunately the Republican propoganda machine got started on him immediately after the last election because they were smart and knew he would be unbeatable in this election.

/ independent best describes me so don't think I am for or against anyone. I want the best person for the job, that is it.

I read his book long before the movie and I don't believe it to be propoganda. He believes in what he is doing and is working in the best interest of us all which is more than anyone else has done.  His science and evidence is valid even though he willl probably be proven wrong over time, but maybe he is right. Keep in mind that Oil companies have spent billions of dollars to discredit him and you will never know the truth until you explore it for yourself. He is a very smart man. Boring as heck but smart. Even when he was VP he was always working to help others and not better himself. All I ask is don't believe everything you hear. Alot of people have alot to lose if he is right. Island Dog, I am not saying you are wrong. I am just saying that noone knows for sure. He isn't doing any harm except to the wallets of certain individuals.

WOM believes in global warming.

WOM believes that car and gas companies  buy things up just to sell gars and gasoline.

WOM believes there are cheaper more efficient ways to run cars, but ya can't make 20-40 billion a quarter in profit by doing it.

WOM believes in the right for a woman to have an abortion.

WOM would be called a moderate republician.5*

But who cares.X(

WOW! Just Wow! This election year just gets better and better. Our economy crumbling around us and now we find out that the corporations that are being bailed out may have been breaking the law! I give up! We need some kind of change and fast! That is all I can say! ROFL

While a couple of my earlier posts were tongue in cheek to help lighten the mood some, I will say this, that I am concerned about the US financial crisis and outcome of the presidential election.  I am not only concerned for the domino effect it will have on Australia and the rest of the World, but also for those in the US I consider friends... how it will impact on them, how they will manage to stay afloat and keep their homes, etc.... whether they keep their jobs as tough economic times historically mean job losses as well.

While I am not directly affected, it is still a worry and I really feel for you all.  I have done it tough in the past and have had to survive on an income that was bordering on the poverty line, so I have first hand knowledge of just how hard it can be, thus the more serious tone to this post, as opposed some of my previous ones in this thread.  There is a time for levity, and sometimes a bit of humour can help brighten that which is gloomy, but right now my mood is rather sombre for all the average joes who are doing it tough while government(s) and the wealthy are covering each other's backs and disregarding/ignoring the plight of the little guy.

Anyway, the missus and I are thinking of you all and wish you all the best. :)

Of course there's global warming...  We've been in a global warming cycle (with a few short cooling intervals) since some what before the ice sheets started to recede during the last Ice Age!

Yep, we sure do need a change.  Unfortunately, it's the not Presidency that controls the purse strings in this country - that's Congress' job.

And, if you'll take the time to actually check out who the recipients of the largest donations from those evil-law-breaking corporations have been over the past few years, you'll find that it hasn't been the 'minority' (which the Republicans are the last time I checked) party.  The biggest bucks always go to the party in power - 'cuz they're the ones that can get the 'favors' done; not the ones that don't have the votes...

Is that the race card being played again?... how sad.

I have heard the story too many times :annoyed: ...  "The only possible way Obama would not get elected is if a bunch of racists go out and vote."

Look at this in a realistic way... (beware you might choke)...

Sure, the "Evil Empire" known as Republicans are usually viewed and called racists by many "Liberals".  BUT Republicans will most certainly vote Republican, right?  That's a given.

That leaves Democrats and Independants who would not vote for him if/ maybe for racist reasons.

So IF Obama loses, how many people and who will CRY racism?

I believe in global warming. I believe it to be a natural systematic adjustment.  The same adjustment that killed off the dinasours.  We are next. The earth is a system that really doesn't take Human life into consideration. The body has an immune system, why wouldn't the Earth?

Humans are a cancer.

Check out this movie, It's sort of like watching a book so it takes awhile to absorb  but it does make some important points.      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindwalk . Even if you disagree with the philosophy behind it, it will open your eyes to many things.

Example... You were taught certain science in school that is completely made up because scientists didn't think we were smart enough to comprehend the truth.

Thankfully it is a movie since Americans in general are illiterate. :sheep:

A day ago, Biden in all seriousness was talikng about the current financial crisis in the US and said that in 1929 when we had another great crisis on Wall Street, FDR got on TV and taliked to the American people and calmed them down. Unfortunately, FDR was not President then and there were no TVs!!

  That one is good.  I will not vote for Obama because of Biden, but right now, he is the only source of laughs in this campaign.
