Come sail the sea of stars with G.R.O.S.S.

GROSS is always looking for new people. We sail along the sea of stars in the survey ship Doom. The Jolly Roger is our flag. We stand ready to fight any human or alien who gets in the way of our goal. Our mission is to cleanse the universe of non-human influences. We Get Rid Of Slimy alienS.

We kill them, trick them, enslave them while pretending to be friends, make them beholden to our culture, whatever it takes to rule the universe. Afterall, they would do the same to us if given the chance. We don't care where you come from or who you are as long as you pass one entrance requirement: be human!

We do not care how good of a player you are, whether you are the type who only gets out of the bunk once in a while or someone who wants to be in the thick of it manning the guns, or helping to call the shots on the bridge, we need all types. You just got to want to play, dominate, and win, all while having fun while doing it.

Welcome aboard the Doom, passengers and crew alike. Come sail the stars with us, with GROSS!

Wild Wombat's slip fighter roared out from the launch tube of the Pegasus into a weaving mass of capital ships and smaller craft. Despite all his clumsiness, this was an environment that he knew well; he had been taught to press the red button, then the green button followed by the blue button to make the fighter work properly.

Now he was going to take some decisive action.

He scanned the MWC comm channels repeatedly, searching for the name, the name, the NAME....and finally he heard it:

"idleprocess, if you're not home in THIRTY minutes to put the boys to bed, I WONT be responsible for the consequences!"

It was she. Those dulcet tones could only belong to that goddess of the midwest, mrs. idleprocess. Wombat still could not understand why they didn't capitalise their names, but he found it endeared her to him all the more. The tight beam transmission was directed to the MWC Indiana, to his hated enemy, to the one that stood between him and the corn-fed homecoming queen.

Wombat fired up the converters and dodged between a Narn battle cruiser closely engaging the ToiletRing, a Fellowship behemoth. He found and locked on to the Indiana, and sent laser fire raking across the rear of the ship, damaging its port engine. "Burn, damn you!" thought Wombat, "Burn and take him with you, muhahahahah!!!" Wombat was quite enjoying the pirate life, thank you very much.

With victory within reach, the MWC Indiana suddenly turned tail and heaeded for home, under the cover of a fighter escort from one of the wizard ships, which resembled nothing so much as a group of flying toilet seats.

"NOOOOOOOOO!" screamed Wild Wombat, his final triumph snatched away from him at the last moment. He blew half a dozen flying toilet seats away in his rage, to no avail - the Indiana had made the jump to warp and to safety....this time.

Wild Wombat joined in the final attacks on several of the flying rings with grim satisfaction. The ToiletRing ended up going down the drain after a titanic encounter with the Narn cruiser. A White Star flashed by after despatching a flying toilet seat that was closing on Wombat's behind. Darth Bob waved a cheery greeting from the cockpit and sped on to mop up the fleeing farmers.

Wombat turned his slip fighter back towards the Pegasus, thoughtfully fingering the laser cutlass by his side...which was a mistake, as he stared bleeding all over the leather upholstery. "Damn! That's another one I owe you, idleprocess!"

"There will be another time......."

My dad went to college with Buck Rogers (the actor who played him that is).

Very interesting. Now if he went to college with Erin Gray (aka Wilma Deering), that would be even MORE interesting. The first and most noticeable example of the "every sci-fi series MUST have a spandex-wearing hot chick" rule.

To thoroughly grind 70s and 80s TV sci-fi memories into the dust, if it was horrible to resurrect Galactica, remember the resurrection of Buck Rogers? Out on the "Searcher," with that "Hawk" guy?

Hmm. Didn't this thread have something to do with GalCiv at some point? :D

I think I'll take helmsman Pontius it would be a great story for the grandchildren of how I was helmsman of a starship once.

GROSS did drive off the MWC fleet, but the Fellowship owners of the sector were not pleased with the disturbance. The great space battle between GROSS and the MWC was not without losses on both sides. Not all the pilots made it home. Fellowship agents were busily gathering intelligence and rescuing the lost pilots, some of whom would choose to stay with their new hosts.

The Doom and the raider fleet of the new South Seas franchise shared the plunder of the raided MWS Milwaukee. Such a slow supply ship was of no use to the fast-moving GROSS combined fleet, so the ship and the survivors were disarmed and set adrift. Maybe they would find their way back to the MWC Fleet, maybe they would be overtaken by the Fellowship. Either way, it was time to leave, so GROSS was on the move again, trying to get out of Fellowship space before more fighting erupted.

Gerakken suited up for repair work. A big hole on H Deck needed to be sealed. No one had been inside the damaged hold since the breach, so the first order of business was to inspect the cavernous storage rooms to see if any inner bulkheads needed to be mended as well. Then the repair droids would know what needed to be done and called in.

Passing through the airlock into the sealed section, Gerakken could see the stars through the hull on the other side of the hold. A complete breach, at least 50 feet around. But he was expecting that. The Doom's enviromental and damage control systems had already noted that there was no power or sensors in the affected holds. Going toward a hatch to one of the adjacent holds, Gerakken quickly darted to the left of the hatch and turned off his suit lights on instinct.

The hatch slowly opened, and a light shone through. The Spymaster was worried. No one should be down here. A robed figure encased in some sort of blue force field carefully entered the main hold, a light globe held aloft in one of his hands. A Fellowship wizard! He must have teleported in here through the breach sometime during the battle. Gerakken used all of his stealth skill to slowly creep away from the hatch to the corner of the hold. The intruder had not spotted him, and Gerakken would like to keep it that way.

Two more globe-encased intruders slowly followed their robed leader into the hold. One had some kind of leather armor on while wearing an open faced helmet with a sword dimly glowing with a yellow light in hand and another sheathed sword on his belt. A bandolier of throwing knives was around his chest. This one must be the bodyguard for the detail, what old spacers called a red shirt. The other was a bald man who wore simple clothes and had no weapons at all. The bald one seemed to be holding a quill and a writing board, taking notes on parchment. Must be a Fellowship scholar or scientist of sorts.

Gerakken slowly fingered his comm controls, knowing that the spacesuit was almost soundproof, and whispered into his helmet microphone to the bridge: "Intruder alert, H Deck, starboard main hold. At least three boarders. Silent alarm only. Subjects are not currently hostile and are under observation. Post teams outside the hold and out of sight."

Were these explorers gathering information or saboteurs wishing to cause mayhem and further cripple the Doom?

You mean he's going to die??? That's what happened to every security guy on Star Trek... (:(
Reply #134 Top
Actually scottie was a red shirt. Perhaps the only one not to die. Was uhura a red shirt also? Perhaps she's the second. Of course in the movies they went to one color uniforms. Bleh. Then they wen't back to

Trivial Star Trek fact #(too high to count):

Uhura most often wore red, but often wore blue. In at least one episode, she wore gold.

Usless side note: In the original series (the one with Kirk & Co,), the "gold" uniforms were actually green. For some reason, they show up as gold on film; possibly a result of a combination of lighting and type of film used. (Or any other reason you'd care to come up with.) Note that Kirk's "alternate style" uniform is indeed green...

We now return you to the regularly scheduled thread...

Different shade of green.

What I'd like to know is why Kirk, and ONLY Kirk, got an alternate style uniform?

Cuz kirk was head pimp. Dished out the laidies.

Kirk could wear whatever he wanted. Who was gonna tell him off? Besides, I'm sure he'd put his clothes on before talking to any admirals. Hell, I'm surprised he doesn't wear just thongs and a bathrobe while on board the ship, to remind everyone it's HIS love boat and no-one else's. Get the whole Hugh Hefner image going. Spocko could be the straight-faced butler, who never shows surprise at all the antics his boss gets up to.

I actually liked the movie uniforms. They just screamed class. They beat 60's pants and black pyjamas for sure :)

Oh, and I call dibs on the Agamemnon. A few PsiCorps flunkies would work well with my psychic purple duck. Besides, those ships look super-kewl. I can stick a couple cutlasses on the rotating section, so I can side-swipe other ships and do the Ben Hur chariot thing. And I'll be running the most powerful drink-mixer in the known universe. That's gotta be worth something.

It's all yours as soon as you join the G.R.O.S.S. southern seas pirates Quacker. It is part of our transformer called the doom at the moment.

I loaded the agamemnon up with your fave. Celebrate being in the first empire to one million!!!!!!! She's yours everytime we pull the transformer lever hehe.

Hmmm... perhaps we can modify the Doom to allow for special detachment operations. I'd like to take the Draconia out every once in a while. (translation: expanding beyond the red lever would open up more story material) ;)

We're workin on it. We're workin on it.

All right you heard it engineering staff. get busy. I wan't the doom to be able to attach and detach ships rather than only when we pull the red levers.

Er Pontius, you mean you want two red levers?

DOH!!!!!

Three?

Doh!!!!

The Fellowship visitors slowly made their way to the main airlock out of the hold. They were gesturing at each other and to the panel on the wall. Gerakken knew enough about the Fellowship to know that most of them understood technological concepts, but were leary of trusting technology and had limited practical knowledge of its use. After a few brief seconds of the bald man trying to figure out the controls, the robed wizard waved his hand and the outer door opened. Gerakken was in a bind. Staying hidden and still in the quiet corner was one thing, but trying to sneak up on the group now while wearing a spacesuit when they entered a well-lit room would surely expose him. Against his normal policy of never letting observation targets out of sight, Gerakken stayed where he was and let the visitors enter the lock.

Over the comm channel, Gerakken could hear security monitoring the progress of the three:

"They are in the lock. The robed man is putting the light globe into his robe. It looks like they are discussing something... I can't make it out. Team 1, team 2, are you in position?"

"Roger, control. We are in position in side corridors off the main passageway."

"What is this? Team 1, team 2, the robed man is chanting something and gesturing. We lost visual of the target! The camera is working, but they are gone! No readings on infrared cameras, either! Wait, the inner door is opening. Nothing on cameras still. Teams, move in. Block the main passage now! The door is closing. We still have no visual on the target."

Gerakken made his way to the outer door. After it opened, he walked into the airlock and waved his outstretched arms widely in front of him, checking to see if the unseen ones had truly left the airlock. Nothing was felt, but it was a vain attempt in this big airlock with large doors designed to drive vehicles through. The Fellowship trio could very well be staying right out of reach while invisible. The fire alarm could be tripped, flooding the airlock with a special gas, but the infiltrators obviously had some sort of respiration assistance if they could walk out in the breached hold exposed to the void of space. The gas might also outline the targets as it poured in, but visibility in the thick gas was very limited. Unless the unseen ones were within a few feet, they would still be invisible. And then the gas would have to be pumped out. So a fire drill was not a good idea.

It was time to take off the spacesuit. Trying to stalk people in a space suit in a dark, vacuum filled hold is one thing, but the suit was noisy and bulky under normal conditions. It was better resume the hunt for the mystery guests after taking off the suit. Security could be heard on Gerakken's earpiece still:

"Team 1, team 2, be advised Gerakken is in the airlock."

"Control, roger that. We rushed the passage and are now on both sides of the inner airlock door. No way the intruders could have got past us!"

Meanwhile, the stealthy visitors were amazed at how well they could currently elude security. They had indeed left the airlock. Hearing the thundering rush of the security teams coming towards them from down side corridors on both sides of the main passage was discouraging, but a simple dimension door spell transported the three in an instant far down the passage. They smiled at each other from within their small invisibility globe as the charging guards rounded the corner far behind them and found only each other.

The Fellowship needed information. If the boarding party's luck held out, they may well reach their goal: the Doom's central computer bank. From there, the goal would be to try and access other GROSS terminals that would include information on ports of call in friendly star systems, lists of corporate holdings, both legitimate and criminal, personnel records, operational briefings, and even the ability to control the Doom itself if the situation required it and the team was compromised. Unfortunately for the infiltrators, their luck would soon sour.

Ah Pontius. A Captain's work is never done. I actually wanted to ask for an espresso machine in the sailors mess. I cannot tolerate powdered coffee. Further, my cabin on the Doom is small and uninteresting: do you know any good interior designers? Anyway, keep up the good work!

I'm trying to finish a game this Saturday, before staying at a friend's house on the North Coast until Monday, so I won't be around. Cheers.
