1.09[b].001 Bug Report Thread

Noticed that Northwest Smith has posted a beta bug in the old 1.04.59 bug report thread.

This should really get a new thread all by itself.

Have you tried saving the game, closing down galciv, restarting the program and restoring the game?
End of quote

Yep, this worked. Thanks, Alex. But, of course, I wasn't just reporting the bug searching for a quick fix to my problem. I just thought I should report the bug since we are beta testers and all. After I restarted GalCiv to finish my game, everything looked normal. :HOT:

The invisible ship bug is an old bug, and Stardock should be aware of it by now.

I have recently installed the beta.

Now for some reason my scores are not getting posted on the Metaverse. When I finish the game and ask to upload my score I get the following message:

Send Test status 1
Error status 0

Anyone knows what the problem could be?

Thanks.

Funstr, you need to convert your Galciv registration to a Drengin one. See below:

Updating your GalCiv registration to a Drengin.net registration. When your game is submitted your serial number will be submitted along with your score. All scores on the Metaverse are directly tied to your player name and your serial number. At some point if you upgrade to Drengin.net you will receive a new serial number. Once you have received this new serial number you should register Drengin.net on your system via Stardock Central. Then you should upgrade your Player Registration on the Metaverse to include your new serial number by converting your old scores to use the new Drengin serial. Because of the different serial numbers you must convert your old scores, submitted under your GalCiv serial number, to the Drengin.net serial number in order for both your old and new scores to show up together. On the Player Registration page there is a separate section for you to convert your serial number. Enter your Drengin.net serial number there and press the convert button. This action will change all your scores to use your new Drengin.net serial number and then change your player registration to use this number as well. From this point on all future scores should be submitted using the Drenign.net serial number and should show up on the Metaverse along with your old scores. If for some reason you have already entered your Drengin.net serial number but did not go through the conversion process don't worry. Just re-register your player with your original GalCiv serial number. Then return to the Player Registration screen and the conversion form will now be available. Just follow the process outlined above.

The submission message looks funny but my submissions work fine after seeing that message.

Now, reply to #25 BlueSteel:After loading from a saved game.. My influence level drops dramatically

This is normal.

This is, indeed, as advertised, but it disrupts the normal progression of the game if you have to save and quit (to go to bed, for instance). For instance, if you are within 12 months of a cultural victory your victory is extended for one or two months when you save, quit, and restart. Some method of making this more friendly should be found.

This thread is getting quite long. I don't know if anyone has noticed the way the governors mess up the social projects of all the planets and posted it here yet, so here goes:

Long ago it was established and agreed that changing a governor's project list from the domestic "governor" window would not change the projects planets were building. 1.09b(b).003 has the following errors:

1). If you have changed the social project of a planet, then so much as select that planet's governor on the domestic "governor" screen, the social project for that planet gets changed to the first uncompleted project on the governor's list.

2). If you change a governor's list, even if it is to add a newly discovered tech and position it in the list where you want it, all planets assigned to that governor that have completed all prior projects in the list get changed to the newly added project.

Perhaps a button that could be clicked would be useful to let the game know if you want the changes to take affect immediately or not would be nice. There have been times when I change the list and had to go through all of the planets to get them changed, just as there have been times when I prefered the planets to complete their current project before switching to the newly added tech.

I've had trouble submitting games to the Metaverse ever since I downloaded Beta 3; fact is that I cannot submit, period. Clicking submit repeatedly does nothing. Cheats are not on.

Arobertson: well, it is performing an extra test before it actually submits the information, so that we can get more information when people's scores don't show up in the metaverse.

Hmmm....you've got a stack overflow...but that's probably from hitting the submit buttons repeatedly.  Try giving it a little more time, Cirrhosis.

I am on 1.09b(B).003 - The new wrapping of the tech list in the foreign trade (or "speak to") panel seems to cause a missalignment of the pointer. In the case I saw the first tech in the list was wrapped and the next two were not. When I placed the pointer on the second line (the second half of the tech that wrapped) the third line highlighted, and when I placed the pointer on the third line the fourth line highlighted. Clicking worked on the highlighted line, so the problem is only with the pointer to highlighted line alignment.

Hey neat, I can post here now. Anyway, I think that I have a genuie bug this time.

Ok, my alignment in a game was 31 (neutral), I had the neutral interface, the neutral robot, and the neutral music but I still got the evil techs, and was effected by UP issue effecting only evil races such as trade rout limitation. I didn't really mind since I was going to be evil anyhow, but I did seem like a bug. For the record I decided to stay neutral and see if it would correct itself but it didn't, it stayed that way the entire game.

On 1.09B.003 window domestic policy -> governor -> obsolete ships - the text in the upper right box is overlayed by the names of the governors from the social governors window. The same is true for the miltary swap window. The governor's names appear in the exact same spot in all three windows.
On 1.09B.003 - The trade routes listed for other races is incorrect (Foreign policy->stats->total routes). It lists the source and target planets correctly but it lists the race of the target planet as the race for the source planet. E.g., if the Arceans have a route from their own planet Valens to the Scottlingas's planet Vitellius it is listed as "Valens to Arcean Empire (Vitellius)" when it should be listed as "Valens to Scottlingas (Vitellius).

On 1.09B.003 Colony ships no longer show up on the ship list.
I'm not sure if this has been submitted or not. When I am on the Governor screen and switch between selecting a governor and the other options, such as the make a ship obsolete option, it keeps the governor picture and names visible, making it almost impossible to read the area. I've tried reinstalling and redownloading the beta. Just thought i'd add this to the bug thread.

ProfessorJumbo: Yep, the tests for good/neutral/evil morality were inconsistent. I've fixed them in my code.

The other new ones have been added to my list.

Jack, if you have a save game that shows the bug where colony ships are not showing up the ship list, please send it to me.

Thanks.

I've been playing with the cheating functionality (just to test it out, of course :)) with the game and it's been interesting. Needless to say, even Masochistic Aliens are no match for me! LOL

However, I do have a complaint about some of the AI algorithms used to determine the selling of a planet. I was able, using the CTRL + M key to give myself >90,000 BC. I then proceeded to purchase all of an AI civ's star systems over the course of several turns. They finally sold me all of them except one; so good, so far. Now, the last star system I was able to purchase for ~84,000 BC for 50 turns. Now, what bothers me about this is that, theoretically, it's possible for someone not to cheat and to "buy" out an alien civ. But the alien civ should not "sell" its last star system ever (or if it does, it should be another "win" type). They should go to war before they do. What this does is allow me to wipe out a civ without so much as a fuss from them. In fact, my status with them got better the more I bought.

I don't know if this is a problem, but I just thought I'd let everyone know about it.

Later,
Mike

On 1.09B(b).003 - I have found an inconsistancy with setting rally points between selecting planets from a star system's list and selecting planets from the planet list.

If you select a star with multiple colonized planets and set rally points by going from planet to planet without clicking on the "assign" button (but still clicking on the rally point you want to select for each planet), then close the planet view by clicking on the "done" button of the planet view, the first and (maybe) the last planets will retain the rally point settings but any other planets will not.

If you select a planet from the planet list and assign a rally point, you can go to other planets in the planet list and assign rally points to them without closing the planet view or the "set rally point" window.

Of these two behaviors, the second one is the desirable one (IMO), and according to Cari, is the intended behavior.

Oh, BTW, If I understand correctly, selecting a planet from the planet list and clicking on the "done" button of the planet view should close only the planet view and not the planet list. It is currently closing both the planet view and the planet list.

Re: posts 141 and 144 on this thread: Wow, am I ever red faced. I think I was looking for ships I didn't have. Sorry.
Mike: I think that it is extremely unlikely that it could be done without cheating.   ~84,000 BC for 50 turns?  You'd break yourself long before you could buy out the civ.
On 1.09B.003 - after creating rally points 0, 1, 2, and 3, I disbaned rally point 1 and created a new rally point. The new rally point was designated as rally point 3, so now I have two "rally point 3"s. The game seems to regard them as two separate and destinct rally points in spite of them having the same name (at least, so far), so it looks like it is only a cosmetic problem that may confuse the player.
Re: Post # 149 - As I play the game further I come to realize that the game can't destinguish between the two "rally point 3"s. If you select the second one in the list on the "set rally point" window it will assign it to the first rally point instead.
