1.09[b].001 Bug Report Thread

Noticed that Northwest Smith has posted a beta bug in the old 1.04.59 bug report thread.

This should really get a new thread all by itself.

It's a library from MS Visual C++ - I think to do with debugging.

I've put a copy on my website http://www.alex-robertson.co.uk/msvcrtd.dll

Note about 385k. Download into your galciv directory and it should fix the problem

USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I look at my total metapoints when I beat a map, 240, I go to submit the metapoints 120, I check here 61. Why am I recieving 3 different scores for a medium sized map at begginer difficulty?

cythknight,

Can I suggest upgrading to 1.05? They made tweaks to the scoring after 1.035.

Looks like 1.09B{b} causes a ddl to disappear and the program will not start. Tried to install three times, have had to go back to 1.05 to get program to run. The file eliminate was MV***.ddl. Did not write it down.

Ralph,

See below:

Note: You may need to download a file called msvcrtd.dll which is used by the debugging system. You can get that here: http://www.stardock.com/temp/msvcrtd.dll (put this into your system32 directory or your GalCiv directory.

Frogboy put a link for the missing dll in the 'Beta 3 update crash missing MSVCRTD.dll' thread.

The latest version of GALCIV is missing the file MSVCRTD.DLL. This DLL needs to be added to GALCIV.

MSVCRTD.DLL is a library for a particular version of Microsoft Visual C++. I have found versions of this file in a few other games.

Sedennial: ok, found and fixed that bug.

We will be posting an updated build today that will take care of the missing dll problem.

MSVCRTD.DLL is a library for Visual C++. I think previous versions of Galciv did not need that libary. Stardock's build/development nodes might have the file in a common area, so they did not notice the need to include it with the game.

You can try copying it to the Galciv directory f you have another game that uses it.

1. The obsolete ships text in the upper right corner overlaps with the text from social and military swaps. Surprised no one saw that, or am I the only one?

2. When I lock the slider on one bar, I sometimes find it impossible to move one of the free bars down to 0%. It would get stuck at about 3% or something.

3. AIs building Trade Centres without The Better Way bug still there (I'm the only one with that tech).

4. After a fresh load, the research timer appears wonky. eg. A reload will show the time needed as 12 turns. After pressing turn, the timer would change to 1 turn left.

5. The rally point arrows on the main map were invisible when I started the game. But they came back later after reloads.

Has there been any change to the submit code? Today when I played the new .003 build and clicked done the submit screeen appeared despite the fact that I was NOT connected to the internet. Usually the game would have returned to the starting screen. I tried vclicking on submit to see what would happen and it gave a failure (error 0).

I've also been having problems with the score submission bits....it pops up, and takes a minute or more to go away

Alex

I got an error message for the submission as well but the game went through fine.

It definitely looks like something went wonky with the intended bonus to score for playing on a higher difficulty level.

My latest game (Crippling, Small) scored 14520 with beta 2. I updated to beta 3 and then loaded the EndGameSave. Now my game scores 12980, roughly 10% less.

Unless the bonus is that Maso stays the same and you now get progressively fewer points for each level below Maso.

I think I may have found a bug. I am playing a game with all the computers ai levels on bright 2 evil civs 3 good civs. I start researching the industial theory and in my next turn or so some how the tech that lets you build a banking center is finished researched?? I didn't even start researching the communications theory?

Latest beta does a CTD before drawing anything on the screen but does manage to change my monitor resolution.

Have not made any changes to my system since installing the pre-release betas months ago and this is the first build that has given me any problems.

debug.err ends with the following lines;

Debug Message: Create setup screens.
*DEBUG ERROR: *** MWinEditFields::Create - Unable to load sprite book ModAbilities ***

Anyone have a clue what this could be about ?

Elrikk

/edit PS I tried downloading the "missing" .dll file to no effect.

Yes, I commented out the code that checks for an internet connection before opening the submit dialog temporarily until Ian can make the new code to check for a connection (that will hopefully work better for people with DSL).

arobertson: the time that it takes to go away is the time when it is submitting the information.

Cari,
could the new submission code only be applied AFTER the submission screen is reached. It would be nice for this screen to appear and highlight the submit button ONLY IF connected. If not connected a message of 'please connect to the internet to you want to submit your score' would be nice. On so many occasions I've clicked past this screen because I forgot to connect to the net first.

Paul.

Paul, it'll be back to the way that it was in the next build.  Hopefully that time Ian will have finished the new code.

Playing version 1.09B{b}. In my current game many of my ship types are invisible. This includes antimatter missles, combat transports, avatars, terror stars, and starbases. The starbases may start off visible but "disappear" after a few upgrades. They cannot be select from the main map, even if I click on the spot where they should appear. They are functional in every other way, however. I just have to select them by picking them off the master fleet list (a real pain :p ) or fleeting them with a visible ship. They do appear in the mini-map and on the tactical map. This also applies to the same ship types for the A.I.

This only started with the latest beta - previously almost instantaneous (DSL 512k) - has the amount of data changed?

Have you tried saving the game, closing down galciv, restarting the program and restoring the game? This usually works for me! (I know it's not the best answer, but it's a workaround!)
