Hiya,

I have uninstalled 3.10 and reinstalled 3.09 and everything is back as it was. Great that you can keep setting on an uninstall.

Let me know when the issue with 3.10 is fixed.

Many thanks

SA

What exactly does this mean?

Note: This build WILL NOT work for Steam installs

Does this mean that IF I have Steam installed on my PC v 3.10 won't work?

But I WILL keep annoying with upgrade notifications?

EDIT:

OK, downgrading to 3.09 worked & I did learn about Snapshots, which is good, but I'm still irritated that I wasted 2.5 hours on this mess.

Next time, instead of supplying just a link on reverting to 3.09, a few lines of instructions would be helpful, telling me I don't have to uninstall Fences, my Snapshot will stay in place, that sort of thing.

Same problem as everyone else here with Fences and explorer. Reinstalled old version. Wow...was this actually tested before release?

Same problem for me here this morning.  Cannot get to stay enabled.  I'm going to reinstall 3.09.  Thanks.

I believe that mean that the v3.09 version you download from that link does not work with Steam activation. Steam activation only work for Fences download from Steam. If you purchase Fences from Stardock direct, that version should activate without issue with your Stardock's Fences license key.

This morning I installed the latest Fences update, Ver 3.10.

A reboot was required.

After reboot, Fences reports an error message the Explorer did not close properly.

I have rebooted multiple times, but the error persists.

When I attempt to "Enable Fences", the desktop begins to flicker.

I would recommend DO NOT INSTALL this update at this time.

OS = Windows 10 Pro, 20H2, 19042.1110

Regards,

Jerry

I just wanted to thank you for continuing to invest in Fences. It continues to be one of my fave tools of all time. You are all much appreciated.

I installed the latest version of Fences after being prompted.  The install seemed to go smoothly but when I rebooted Fences simply did not work (my icons were there on the desktop but not in their corrals). I tried to recreate new fences but this was also unsuccessful. I uninstalled & went back to the previous version which is working nicely again.

I'm running Win 10 Pro with all the latest updates.

Hey, I installed the new version of fences 1hr ago, and like some of you, it doesn't work with WallpaperEngine....

Could someone explain how do I downgrade the version of Fences to 3.9 to make WPE works again pls ?
(I have fences with steam btw)

Ty in advance,

Your Update broke my fences and now its gone because i dont have a key. I bought it over a year ago and did not renew ist because your scummy sale practices do not give a clear information that i'm buying a one year license if i just klick on "Get it now" and pay for it. Half of your stuff didnt work properly anyway on a surface book.

Good Job

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Your keys should still work if you subscribe ObjectDesktop while it is came with Fences 3.x. You should be able to get your key using this guide : https://forums.stardock.com/484254/getting-your-products-and-keys and download Fences v3.09 using the link posted here : https://forums.stardock.com/505007/get;3806834

so here's what worked for me, uninstall and delete the updated fences, then this is very IMPORTANT, restart your pc first, then download the old version which is 3.09 and while installing it will ask whether you wanna install the updated version and its important that you choose No.

that's about it i found everything back exactly how it was even my wallpaper engine wasn't working because of the update now its all back to normal.

good luck fellas.

Move all desktop icons/items to a folder and re-enable Fences. That fixed it for me.

Take the items out of the folder until Fences crashes and you will find the culprit that caused it to crash.

Sorry for the DF and WE people having issues. Good luck with that one... :-(

I updated Fences to version 3.10 last night and turned off my PC. When I restarted this morning, there were no icons on my desktop. The menu that appears when you right-click on the desktop said "Activate Fences" on top, but that did nothing. I had to roll back to 3.09 to recover my icons.

I'm running the latest version of Windows 101, version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1110)

Also, the batch file you suggest people use to purge Fences cannot be downloaded. Windows won't let me, claiming it's unsafe and not providing any means to bypass the warning. I suggest you instead post it as a TXT file that we can rename, or just provide manual instructions for purge old versions of Fences. It's much safer.

Yesterday, I upgraded to Fences 3.10 and observed the same issues documented by other users in this forum. Fences has now be removed and I'll be looking to downgrade as soon as I figure out how to suppress the auto upgrade check.

Here are some observations following the upgrade:

Windows Pro

  • After the Fences install, I didn't reboot immediately. The side effect was that FireFox browser stopped launching with a complaint that VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was corrupted.
  • Coincidence - maybe.
  • Rebooting does not fix the FireFox issue and Fences complains about Explorer not having shutdown properly and fails to start.
  • Re-installing Microsoft's vc_dist_x64.exe fixes Firefox.

This morning I noticed that my LastPass extension on the Edge browser was marked as corrupted which was easily fixed.

While rare, generally there is are options that will indeed allow it, examples:

The problem is, no warning was given at all. The link simply did nothing. But when I tried "save link as" that popped up Windows 10's complaint and I was able to select KEEP. I'm not going to run this BAT though, as I found a workaround. See below.

That's an interesting option. Most of my desktop icons are simple shortcuts, but there are a number of Steam links and a couple of Windows 10-style apps. I moved all of the Steam and Windows 10 shortcuts into a folder, installed 3.10 again, and rebooted. This time it worked, and I was able to restore those icons to the desktop afterward. Yeah!

Will you attempt to fix the issue with Wallpaper Engine ? One of the devs even replied to this thread...

It would be nice to know if people like me should even continue to subscribe to this thread. If there will be no attempt (which is entirely possible because there is financial incentive for you to not do so) then we don't have to check back with every email we get.
