I am stuck with a 233 Intel pentium right now (Dell Laptop. Why oh Why can they not switch to AMD?) And I hate it.

Kona, the point is that AMD's numbering system for their processors isn't representative of their equivalence to a particular Pentium. Your first statement is pretty much the same as saying that a P4 3.5 Ghz outperforms a P4 3.0 Ghz. It's not an even comparison.

As for your second comment, I'm sure we've had this discussion before, and you were shown evidence that it simply wasn't true. Certain applications have been adapted in their Mac incarnations to take advantage of the different architechture of the processor. Those applications will indeed run faster. In a raw processor function test however, the G5 processor actually performs slightly slower than the current top processors from both Intel and AMD. I'll try and find you the link to the information again if you want, but for the time being let's get back to the topic at hand.

Did you happen to go to the link I posted that is to the ATI website with the patches and updates for your ATI Mobility chipset?

Have you downloaded the latest drivers as suggested by IPlural and made sure you remove all traces of previous driver versions before installing them? 9 times out of 10 you'll find that the latest drivers have fixed a known issue with a particular game. I could be wrong, but I thought the Mobility drivers were included as part of the standard Catalyst releases. Don't take my word for that though, and make sure you have the correct ones.

i went to the site. ATi says that it is NOT providing drivers for mobility cards as they are specially manufactured by the computer manufacut. as laptops have a special display screen that cannot 'shrink' or 'stretch'. so, i tried acer. they didnt have any drivers. so, now...i am going to leave NOLF2 and go for rise of nations instead!! which doesnt boast much about direct x etc...

Oh, seems they have plenty of drivers at the ATI site for Mobility cards though maybe not the one you need...

What version is your driver?

The one for the Dell Laptop listed below might help and also the one for
WindowsXP...

I am not sure if yours is the newest driver or not...
But, they do have drivers and other info there...

RAGE MOBILITY, MOBILITY RADEON, and MOBILITY FireGL drivers are NOT available for download from ATI Customer Care.

The MOBILITY drivers supplied with a given laptop or notebook have been specially modified to work in conjunction with the flat panel display and any other graphics or video options installed in that specific computer.

As a result of these modifications, ATI Customer Care is unable to make a "generic" MOBILITY driver available for download.

You MUST use the drivers supplied with your laptop or notebook computer, or obtain a driver update from the manufacturer of your laptop or notebook computer.

That really surprises me Lord Vimal, but I guess if that's what ATI are saying it must be true. I wasn't aware that the mobility chips were so directly linked to the display that they needed to make a different chip for each laptop display. I wonder why they couldn't just make the chip in the same way that they make the desktop Radeon?

But desktop displays have variable abilities when it comes to displaying particular resolutions and refresh rates, and yet we get one driver which covers all Radeon cards. Any resolutions which aren't supported by the monitor are disabled in Display Properties. I don't see why it should be any different for laptop screens. After all, what are TFT screens if not a laptop screen in an external case?

mine does also, and it is a hardware feature in the bios settings, or software in the driver setup which turns on the hardware switch...

when i switch my resolution to say the highest one in mobility...hmm...let me see...2048X1536...my screen size actually remains the same. only thing is that the start button is not visible and i have to scroll down to see it (scroll with mouse)

i now run the game in 1024 X 768. which doesnt cause much of a problem. :> i was running it in 800 X 600. before...when i had this problem. also, i noticed that my hot air was coming out of the ventilator when screen got stuck. so, i guess over heating was the problem. when there is no over heating, it just works fine thanks for all your help! if you have information, please post it here!

I just found it bizarre that you said laptop screens do not strech when mine does. What is the minimum requirements for that game?

PIII 500 Mhz or equivalent.
3D accelerator card. with min 32MB memory.
1.4 GB HDD space installation with space for swap file/save files.
128+ MB RAM
CD/DVD drive.
hmm..and a mouse with a keyboard to fire weapons and for navigation
direct x 8.1 or above
a good responsive operating system...

The other day I went on a hunt and could not get the UK server to connect...

I do know that I found that MS has a patch for the ATI cards because of an issue with the DVD and Video when playing NTSC format video on their ftp server...

Which might be a problem causing thing when playing games...

I must admit I love my new ATI graphics card on my new (DELL) desktop puter but the one (ati 32 mb graphics card) on my one-year-old laptop SUX for gaming. It's just pathetic and nothing has changed it...most of my 3-d games don't work worth a phlegm cough in the wind (all fuzzy and weird and choppy-sloppy). But...honestly...gaming on my laptop is a joke anyhow...it's a pain in da bootie to try and play games with a touchpad...yeah right... All thumbs!

My desktop puter kicks major arse tho...hehe! /me hugs her flat panel monitor and get's it all gooey with luv smooches.

/me feels sorry that shmoopy bought a Dell when she could have built one herself for less than $350

if you download and try one and it dosen't work you always can rollback the driver and then try again.
