Perhaps they need to be moderator-only...

In case you didn't know it, the rating system has recently changed. Not every rating has the same weight anymore. If a Master rates a skin, it has more weight than if a Apprentice rates one. This system was to help stop just the sort of things that you mentioned.

The notice was given on the messageboard awhile ago by Frogboy, to stop rating abuse by newcomers. I'm too tired to find the particular thread, but it is here somewhere.

ChasUGC, i didn't know about it, and well, that's the main reason why i opened this thread ...

What I don't get (I am with Jafo there fully) is why someone would post 6 screenshots in a row unless he/she has 6 machines skinned. I have never understood that with SSGoku (as a german I am always like 'Ouch!' when I read the name even) and now You get into his footsteps... My shots are seldom rated and do I whine about it ? I even -- some outdated ones from time to time, which should be general practice... As a side note I could easily post 5 screenshots in a row as I have 5 machines and OD/WB/IP licences for those but I hold that as in real life : I only speak (= post a screenshot) when I have something to say...

Carl....does 'SSGoku' signify anything unsavoury [ignoring the 'SS', that is]?

Policy should be that Nicks do not cause issues of discrimination or whatever....eg 'Hitler Youth' would not be considered 'appropriate'....

SS Goku is a character from an Anime game....

There's only one rating (so it's the admin one ...) and it's a 4 !!! (i did'nt rate it just to show how strange the rating system is)
Do u really think this shot, which in fact is not only a simple addition of existing skins, but gives some more by addition of personal work (even by porting) and a good feeling of well matching the whole ??

Some seems to think that screenshots are just nothing else than screenshots (just a picture). I don't think so and there's over here some guys who do much more than just press "Printscreen" with the skins they have downloaded ...
As far as i'm concerned, i'm not an artist (ART creator) and a designer (and won't probably never be, just because i've not the talent and the feeling for it), but as probably most of guys in the skinning community, i like to get nice desktops, and try to tweak them the way i like best (isn't it the goal of skinning and using softwares such as Stardock's ones firstly ?). So i'm using softs and skins to go with, but just on the WindowBlinds skins, there's always something i want to change / add (colors, buttons, backgrounds ...), it's not an artistic practice but i can tell u it's sometimes a real job to get them the way i want.
Porting existing pixels to skin other softs than the one they were done for is neither an artistic practice, but it's also a real exercice. And finally puting all this stuff together requires feeling. So yes if ratings are avaible for skins (and skinner ARTISTS) i don't know why they should not be the same for screenshots (and those who did them), otherwise, why keeping up ratings for screenshots ??

That was uploaded by a Journeyman and therefore was auto rated a '6'....which is bypassed by a 'genuine' rating.

An admin has not even seen that image till now....

neophil78 : that particular piece is like hundreds of others of the same author and nothing special (anymore) for me personally. What we see is another piece of a flood af screenshots and ports in the same manner totally overdone by this particular author. (You asked for it.)

So I'd say the rating is okay...

c242, there's also wallpapers (just to talk about them) creators who upload the same style of stuff ... (don't get particular name under the hand ...), or sysmetrix, or any kind of softs skins ...

I know and I have said my opinion about that elsewhere. But this thread is about screenshots.
