A Brief History of the JEDI REPUBLIC; PART III

The war with the former Jedi was going badly for the Republic, after every battle the Dark Lord's forces came back very soon, fully rearmed to fight the battle-ravaged Republic forces yet again. This went on for some time before the Republic senate realized that they had no choice but to discover the source of enemy reinforcments. To the Jedi Council they gave this task.

Already quite far on their quest to find the Star Maps, the Jedi simply had to connect the dots to discover that the Star Forge was to blame. Somehow, the former Jedi had stumbled accross the ancient artifact and repaired it to serve its purpose. Once again the horrible machine was corrupting and twisting its users.
The Jedi Council clearly saw what had happened to the heroic Jedi. Unknowing of the dangers, Reven, as he was known before the wars, found and activated the Star Forge. The Council came to the conclusion that the Star Forge corrupted him, just as it had the original Sith people, and now he was being used by the machine to gain more power.

In the end, the Republic survived that trial, but it came at a great cost. The fleet was in disrepair after the final conflict with Revan on the Star Forge, and former allies used this to their advantage.
The Star Forge was destroyed and its parts cast into a nearby Sun, but not before it claimed one last civilization.

The destruction of Revan and the Star Forge should have brought an age of peace to the galaxy. It did not.

A Brief History of the JEDI REPUBLIC; PART IV

Reeling from the recent war, the Republic was in no shape to fight. But, things don't always come to pass as desired...

After the war, the Republic Senate went into a feud about what to do next. Some Senators even proposed abolishing the Jedi Order and exiling all the followers of the Force, much like what happened to the early Sith religion. This was struck down, however, by much clearer thinking Senators.
Ambitious enemies made up their minds for them.

Some years after the end of the Star Forge War, the first attacks began. The Trade Federation, a loosly knit group of planets dedicated to the art form that was making Credits, saw the opprotunity and took it.
What better way to make a pile of Credits than to overthrow the galactic government? So, with their monstrous droid army they conquered planet after planet; all without one shot being fired against them by the Republic.

And so the demise of the Republic began.

Posted this on the Pirates of the Southern Seas thread. Thought it might be interesting to fiddle with the Dark Side in a storyline. Just sharing a little good-natured fun with our former FF rivals. Enjoy!

Meanwhile, on an intelligence ship carefully disguised as a tramp freighter, far, far away...

Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Moff Tarkin sat around a table, in communication with the Living Force. Their efforts were aided by the bottles scattered across the table's surface.

Since Coruscant and a few of its surrounding systems had abruptly popped into this strange new Metaverse, the Jedi had sought out their neighbors. Some, like the mysterious Fellowship of wizards, had been openly friendly, even speaking of alliances. Others, like the strange band of "Pirates of the Southern Seas" (whatever that meant) were boisterous and very, very loud, but equally friendly. Others, like the Drengin, were neither friendly nor did they speak of formal alliances. And their flavor of "loudness" came from the screech of aerial bombardment and the detonations of ship-to-ship combat.

From a few of these contacts, mostly from the G.R.O.S.S. pirate band, the Jedi had learned that the art of alcohol production on Coruscant was sadly lacking. Moreover, they had also discovered that strong alcohol that actually tasted good enough to stomach in larger quantities had an unforeseen effect. It allowed one to peer into the depths of the Force unhindered by normal concerns. Like consciousness, reason, and clarity of thought...

These strong and tasty alcoholic beverages were a valuable new tool in the Jedi Republic's ongoing battles against the forces of darkness. And any threat to them was a threat to the fabric of the Republic itself. The recent spike in Budweiser availability certainly qualified. Tarkin, head of Jedi Republic Security, was heading the investigation. Qui-Gon and his one-time pupil, Obi-Wan, were there to provide insights into the Force, combat backup, and diplomatic assistance. Tarkin had many strong points, but charming negotiation wasn't one of them.

So, to return to our intrepid heroes:

Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Tarkin sat around a table, in communication with the Living Force. Their efforts were aided by the bottles scattered across the table's surface. Qui-Gon, as usual, was more in touch with the Living Force than his companions. He had in fact completely passed out, so in tune was he with the Force within a bottle of Wild Turkey. Tarkin, his face already lined beyond his years, was practicing his squint. Obi-Wan was thinking of his next refill. Jack Daniels? Johnny Walker? Red? Black? Ah, the wonders of this Terran sphere...

Suddenly, Qui-Gon jerked awake, immediately standing up, straight as a rail. His eyes were wide, his long hair nearly standing on end. Tarkin spun around in surprise. Obi-Wan instinctively leapt to his feet and ignited his lightsaber, striking a classic defensive pose that unfortunately intercepted an overhead beam. So intent was he on his former Master that he failed to notice; the blue beam of light remained embedded in the beam, sizzling gently.

"I...have felt a GREAT disturbance in the Force," intoned Qui-Gon in sepulcheral tones. "As if millions of voices have cried out in terror!"

Obi-Wan smelled burning metal, but that was unimportant at the moment. "Qui-Gon, what is it?"

"I feel something terrible has happened. A mighty warehouse, stocked with Jim Beam, has burned to the ground. Millions of thirsty, painfully sober Midwesterners scream in agony at this moment."

Tarkin, with his gift for analysis, immediately weighed the statement. "We've expected something like this. It could have been far worse. It could have been Jack Daniels." He began to pace. "Obi-Wan! You have been traveling the great Web and setting up your eavesdropping and tracking systems, as Yoda and I have requested?"

Obi-Wan extinguished his saber. His nerves needed a boost; perhaps unconsciously after Tarkin's mention of the name, he reflexively snatched the bottle of JD from the table. "It's proceeding, Moff Tarkin. There are some three dozen systems in place."

"And the one aboard the Southern pirate ship? The one disguised as an erotica snooper?"

"Yes, it's installed. Why?"

Tarkin grinned his trademark death's-head grin; a truly frightening effect on a face that was, in fact, of a good alignment. He'd been practicing that look along with the squint. "It was with these pirates that you first discovered the threat to our alcohol supplies. And they will likely be as concerned as we are about its extent. Do you have their location?"

Obi-Wan shuffled his feet. "Umm...Moff Tarkin, they're not actually that bad, considering the fact that some of them are, well, evil. And they DO know how to throw a good party - I feel that I'm with friends. It doesn't seem right to follow them and let them draw out the conspirators and then -"

"STOP, Obi-Wan!" interrupted Qui-Gon. "You should have learned your lessons better from me. Describing a plan before it's concluded can only be done by those who are EVIL themselves. We may allow Sith into our ranks in this time of need, but YOU are not a Sith. Keep our plans in your own mind where they belong."

Obi-Wan had an angry retort ready, but then remembered that Qui-Gon had once again passed him in the rankings, and had the right to give orders. Instead, he turned to Tarkin. "Moff Tarkin, this is your investigation. How do you recommend we proceed?"

Tarkin smiled - he'd practiced that too. He leaned over to touch the comm panel. "Pilot - set a course for the Southern pirate ships. We will sense their presence in the Force when we are near. We can follow them while staying out of sensor range."

"Yes, Sir! But what course shall we set, Sir?"

Tarkin smiled again. "Master Obi-Wan has the comm frequency of a tracer signal. He'll be with you shortly."

Obi-Wan strided silently toward the bridge, running the encounter through his mind. He knew that what the others were saying was right, was in the interest of the Jedi Republic, and was in line with Yoda's orders. But personally, he didn't think this a kind return on hospitality.

Within his mind, he heard the words of his old master: "We may allow Sith into our ranks in this time of need, but YOU are not a Sith."

"No..." thought Obi-Wan. "Perhaps not."

"Not yet."

A Brief History of the JEDI REPUBLIC; PART V

In utter chaos from the sudden attacks by the Trade Federation, the Republic was once again on the verge of collapse. In desperation, the Republic Senate handed Emergency Powers to one man, Palpatine, a senator from the small world of Naboo.

Promising to hand down the powers after the conflict, Palpatine did indeed make great progress in the war. Without the restraints of the democratic process, he built up a massive clone army, and won many battles against the Trade Federation's droid armies.

This struggle would come to be known as the Clone Wars.

Many battles were fought during the Clone Wars, and on many a battlefield. The Trade Federation gained allies and formed the Confederacy of Independant Systems. This confederation included such predominate organizations as the Techno Union, the InterGalactic Banking Clan, Corporate Alliance, and the Commerce Guild.

The Jedi Council was involved in the Clone Wars as well, and many Jedi died in its battles. The Clone Wars would live on in infamy for generations past its end...

A Brief History of the JEDI REPUBLIC; PART VI

The Clone Wars lasted many, many years, but finally, two generations after its start, the Clone Wars ended as suddenly as they had begun. In a reletivly small battle, the high officials from the Confederacy were killed and the war was won.

After the end of the war, the Senate asked Palpatine to hand down his powers and retire in glorious victory.
Palpatine had other plans.

During the many battles of the Clone Wars, Palpatine was slowly seduced by the Dark Side. In secret meetings he met with Sith Lords and plotted the demise of the Republic, and his rise as Emperor of the galaxy.

The Republic was doomed.

In one quick raid, Palpatine's Royal guards stormed the Senate Chambers and arrested all the senators. They were later executed, and Palpatine announced to the galaxy that the Republic was no more.
In its place he created the Empire. An evil government with harsh restrictions and a simple way of keeping control. If you refuse you die. This method was very efficient and fear kept the planets in line. Fear of the massive battleships called Star Destroyers that Palpatine had constructed immediately following his rise as Emperor.

The rise of the Empire also brought about the near genocide of the Jedi. Palpatine ordered that his biggest threat, the Jedi, be sought out and exterminated. And so began the Dark Times.

Thousands upon thousands of Jedi were murdered by Palpatine and his Sith Aids. Very few Jedi escaped the Dark Times alive, including Master Yoda, who survived the Dark Times on the planet Dagobah. Yoda used a cave where a Sith Knight had died to mask himself against detection. The Dark energies emited by the cave cancelled out his Light Force energy. This is how Yoda survived the Dark Times. We know now that many others lived, including the Jedi Master Echuu Shen-Jon.

There was hope for the galaxy yet...

A New Hope, COMING SOON.......

A Brief History of the JEDI REPUBLIC; PART VII

With the Republic destroyed, the galaxy entered a new age of tyranny. Ruling his Empire with an Iron Fist, Lord Palpatine had anyone who questioned his authority executed. Any attempts at a coup d'Etat were squashed as soon as they began. It seemed that the glorious Republic was lost forever...

There was one group of Rebels who managed to escape destruction by the Empire. This "Rebel Alliance", as they called themselves, kept the dream of freedom alive.
In a confrontation with the Imperial Fleet near Yavin V, the Rebels won their first major victory against the Empire. This began a chain of events that would lead to the freeing of the galaxy...

Master Yoda made his existance on Dagobah as inconspicuous as possible. After the battle of Yavin, he felt a new presence in the force.
Sure enough, a reckless young Rebel pilot crashed into the swamps of Dagobah. Yoda, sensing the force in this new visitor, began a series of tests to begin the Jedi training. Failing all the tests, the reckless force adept left before his training was complete to fight the Empire.

Winning many battles for the Rebel Alliance, the pilot finally returned to the Jedi Master on Dagobah. Telling him that his training was complete, Master Yoda knew that the fall of the Empire would soon come to pass. After his student left, Master Yoda made preparations to leave his home on Dagobah, and help rebuild the Jedi Order.

And thus the Jedi Republic was born.

The New Republic... COMING SOON!

Looks like one of the new Jedi is a true Sith. Wow, talk about bringing balance to the Force! Of course, one must realize that if any of these Sith reach 50,000 points, they are going to be asking for the equivalent of Swiss Army Light Sabers. :D

My fellow Jedi:

I have returned to the Jedi Republic from a perilous mission into Real Life. The website has been updated with the new additions to the Jedi order, as well as the latest chapters in Master Yoda's continuing saga.

http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/jedi_republic/

A note to all of our members: Flesh out your characters! The more input that we have, the stronger our group identity. I've added a picture of Wedge for Wedge83 on the Active Jedi List page; however, he is the only member outside of the Council that has such an image, as we don't know enough about the rest of your "personas." KEmperor, are you in fact the long-lost twin of Palpatine? Is Yogert really Mel Brooks stuck in the floor up to his knees and painted gold? Who are y'all?

As a backstory sidenote, we may have a continuity error to work around here. Yoda's backstory for the Jedi Republic runs through Episode VI and appears on the verge of entering the range of the unholy abominations known as the "Dark Empire Trilogy." Most of our "personas," on the other hand, are from the timeline of around Episode II, with the fortunate exception of Qui-Gon's survival from certain death at the hands of KitWarrior (oops, Darth Maul) in Episode I. In addition, our Dooku is of good alignment.

It seems clear that an alternate timeline was created when Coruscant and its surrounding systems abruptly popped into the Metaverse. I've worked with this in a few stories - you'll note that this particular Obi-Wan has flirted with the Dark Side a bit from time to time (as I try out a couple of "evil" strategies in the game). If you have a gift for prose, or even just care to just pen a sentence or two to flesh out your character, let's see your efforts!

A Brief History of the JEDI REPUBLIC; PART IIX

Out of the ashes of the Empire came the New Republic. With Palpatine destroyed (or so it was thought) and the Empire in ruins, the Jedi Yoda had trained on Dagobah set up a new Jedi Order, and Yoda returned to his position on the new Jedi Council.
Those who survived the Dark Times also joined Yoda on the Council. Namly, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gong Jinn, Count Dooku, and Moff Tarkin, a former servent of the Emperor who defected to the Rebel Alliance shortly before the slaying of Emperor Palpatine.

Because of the vital role the Jedi played in the saving of the galaxy, the new Republic was named the Jedi Republic, to honor all the Jedi lost during the Dark Times.

Which brings us to today. The new Jedi Republic was prospering when suddenly an entire demention shift occured, transporting the Jedi Republic galaxy to a different dimention....

And thus ends this Brief History of the Jedi Republic. I hope you have enjoyed it, please consider this as a background for all the stories on our Republic to follow. Thank you.
