When you get right down to it, IV was the only one truly great. And not because it was well acted, although it was better acted than most of em, but because it broke new ground. I can see why Lucas put it up first. None of the others, and I mean none could have drawn everyone into the series like that one.
Now that I've seen em all, I just gotta see the rest to complete the story.
Episode 5, was good too. 6 stank. Yea yea yea, death star blows up, been there, done that.
1 was decent but not great.
2 was an incredibly bad movie. They got pretty boys to play the main characters rather than actors I'm afraid. Had it been anything other than StarWars, It would have totally flopped.
And the thing is, 1 and 2 weren't all that popular with the kids as 4 was with its generation.

I'm beginning to wonder whether episodes 7-9 will ever become movies. 3 may just be the last. Unless Lucas just wants an ego thing.

Loved it! Sort of reminded me of Jar-Jar with a saber...Now everyone can see how our Sith would turn out if we didn't have Kit as a guest instructor!

Pontius, sorry the movies were a disappointment for you, but if you're planning on buying the tickets for III anyway, Lucas is doing something right on an economic level at least...

As for 7-9, my understanding is that there will be no such films. In the hours of backstory on the DVDs, Lucas refers several times to this as a 6-part story and never mentions any continuation of the story "after" VI. The Saga is intended to be the story of a fall from grace followed by redemption through a son - not a bad theme.

Friends Again?

The discussion between the two combatants was going well. As Obi floated eighteen feet over the ring, Kit talked about his difficult days at college and the seemingly endless work since he became a pirate. Obi had also struggled at college and, since he was an important Jedi now, was able to empathize with the burdens of a heavy workload.

EBZ had already left with a good third of the crowd. No one could blame them. They came to the Danger Room to see a bloody fight and all they got was sappy tea party talk.

Twenty-three minutes later, when Obi was finally released from the malfunctioning restraint field, the two fighters converged for a manly hug.

JAB! Kit struck the Jedi in the back with his fist, right in the kidney!

BIFF! As Obi buckled, the devious pirate gave him an uppercut to the jaw.

STOMP! Now sprawled out on his back, the Jedi choked as Kit held his boot on Obi’s throat.

“Admit the first two training videos are pathetic!” The mad marauder’s cutlass was less than an inch from his victims eye. “Admit that your Padawans glean nothing from them!”

Obi couldn’t respond, but Kit wasn’t interested in more discussions. As long as the cameras were recording his victory, he was... victorious!

The Jedi went limp. Kit relaxed and afforded himself an Evil smirk. Gerakken, focusing his attention on the fallen Jedi, suddenly remembered something very important. Obi was a master of the ol’ dead possum trick! Would the Spymaster be able to warn Kit before it was to late?!?!

Gerakken thoughts were focused, but not on the Jedi. He had been busily playing bookie for the fight and collecting wagers while the combatants were taunting each other. The fight was now at a decisive point and he had just been thinking, "Darn! This is going to put a kink in my plans for this fight. Good thing I have enough credits to cover the bets if this goes the wrong way."

Realizing now that there was a greater problem at hand, Gerakken panicked upon seeing the limp Jedi on the ground and Kit standing over him. Obi Wan was down, but not yet admitting defeat. "No, Kit! DON'T!!! Strike him down and he will just come back stronger in a sequel! You must use his goodness against him."

Scanning the crowd, Gerakken noticed a strange, hyperactive alien that had been particularly vocal during the fight. It was a brownish color, standing over 6 feet tall with a pair of toad-like eyes on top of its head, an odd, bill-like snout and huge floppy ears. The creature was now fixated on the outcome, like the others in the crowd, handily snatching a fly out of the air 5 feet away with its tongue. "Ooom! Delicious!"

The Spymaster had an idea. "You, with the ears, what is your name?"

The alien quickly turned its head to face Gerakken. "Me Jar Jar. Jar Jar Binks! I am from Naboo! Who you be?"

"I am Gerakken, but that is unimportant. Ever want to be a Jedi, Jar Jar?"

"Me always respected Jedi! They be great people. But they want me to be politician. Me not know why."

"Good enough." Gerakken faced the two contestants. "There is a fairer way to determine if these videos are worth their price. I suggest Obi Wan take this Jar Jar fellow as his padawan."

Obi Wan looks up with a shocked expression: "I can't! The Jedi Council will never allow it. I already have a padawan."

"Not anymore from what I hear. Nice try, Jedi. Well, even if you cannot or will not take this alien as your padawan, Kit has won. Perhaps another Jedi will redeem your training videos by teaching Jar Jar the ways of the Jedi." Gerakken then started to pay off the lucky winners and calculated his take.

So now I have to figure out a way to train Jar-Jar WITHOUT going over to the Dark Side, OR alienating anybody who'd want to join the Jedi Republic?

While proof of evilness is a requirement of the GROSS senate, the plague that is Jar Jar Binks was beset upon us by far more sinister people!

I am not a total meanie, though. If someone, anyone else is willing to help Obi Wan out of his bad situation, Jedi or not, please do. But I personally still have Jar Jar issues from those first two suspect videos. :notsure:

Gawd.. don't ever let Jar Jar binks and Yoda talk to each other. The mind will close down..

Ran across a shareware game a couple of years back, called "Gun Down the Gungan." It was a spin on the ol' Whack-a-Mole idea, except it had Jar-Jar popping up from behind rocks and you had to take him out with a few heavy weapons. Explosions and gore were of the "Quake II" variety and definitely would have rated this one "'M' for Mature." There was even a game-opening WAV file of Vader's voice saying, "Give in to the Dark Side!"

Great fun.

Side note after his (thankfully) limited appearance in Episode II: The Empire? The fall of the Old Republic? Jar-Jar's fault. Someone with that much skill in politics...hmmm...maybe I can do something with this after all. "The Political Machine" is coming out shortly...

He may have quoted that now. But that's not what he was quoting back in the 70s and early 80s. I stopped seeing them full price at the theater at ep 6. 1-2 I rented the DVD. I figure 3 will be worth another 99cent rental. But now that I know there will be no 7-9, I may not even bother with that. I may buy the remastered 4. It is good enough to stand alone.

The original version of IV is still available if you're a purist. Personally, I thought the originals were superior in every sense. Every time I see Han Solo step on that awful, puny CGI Jabba in the new version of Episode IV, i want to :VOMIT:



I remember quite a bit of speculation about the possibility of Episodes VII-IX after "Jedi" came out. I don't specifically know if it was Hollywood "spin" or from Lucas directly - I didn't follow many trade publications when I was 14. Therefore, unable to comment.



Hiring unknown actors is a Lucas specialty, Pontius. He's said in various interviews that he believes "fresh" talent is better for leading roles, with established actors only in supporting ones (Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee). Liam Neeson is the exception here, not the rule.

Did anybody ever hear of Richard Dreyfuss or Harrison Ford before "American Graffiti?" Doubt it. Ford was doing carpentry when Lucas called him back to do "Star Wars." Likewise, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were virtual unknowns.

(For that matter, Mark Hamill is still pretty much unknown.)

Just my 2 BCs worth. Like the enjoyment we get from playing this game and participating here in the forums, the enjoyment one gets from a motion picture is subjective.

Whose thread am I in? Oh, the Jedi Republic. In that case I won't be a dickhead. I'll just say that in my opinion, the movies were craptacula, and leave it at that.

Ah, the "special editions"... well, I didn't care much about the extra special effects, one way or the other. You know what pissed me off? That scene when Han blasts Greedo in the cantina. In the new one, they had to add the extra shot of Greedo firing first (and missing, some bounty hunter to miss a guy from two metres away), then get shot by Han. WTF is wrong with Han shooting the guy first under the table? That's the kind of guy he is! Bloody political correctness...

Good Rogue Good guys like Han Solo in Star Wars and Starbuck in Battlestar Gallactica are in short supply these days.
