We should be able to make that "data-driven" from a set of database tables - ISTR that you can now "layer" webpages with and i-frames - so if the various parts were stored seperately, they could be "hooked together" as needed - could include personalised blades/handles and images as well - this would also have the advantage that updating would merely need the new scores bringing in!

Couple of problems with that:
1) IE does not support PNG alpha blending, so fitting everything together would look REALLY bad using just gif transparency. (I already looked at doing the rank insignias separately before I redid the site, and had to forget it because most people use IE...)
2) I don't have the programming expertise to do this sort of thing....
At most, the best we could do is just give the insignias plain white background colors and make a script that would arrange the members images by score and add the proper insignia in a floating DIV. But again I can't do this so we'd need to find somebody else to do it for us...
Bascially though, as long as the roster requires me to intervene in any way, it isn't really that much bettter than doing it all by hand. And I don't mind the normal updates, since that just means checking the roster against the bot page and moving a couple people around and updating their pictures. It's just a total overhaul of the rank system that I'm against
