Theoden it looks like the alliance victory takes a 20 - 25% mpts score hit compared to military victory. That's a big hit since once you meet criteria for an alliance victory, one can easily party palace to a military victory.

Or, is the extra 20-25% bump in the score for actually going through the process of taking over the entire galaxy? :D

Ric, that would depend on the map size. A gigantic maso alliance victory can probably net 53-57k mpts which is more like a 10% drop.

To be honest, I went Alliance victory on that last game because it was Christmas eve and I was going to my in-laws. I wanted to finish the game quickly and the Torians were Close to me. The Yor were wary and weak, so I allied with the Torians and sent an invasion fleet against the Yor. A few turns later, I was watching the victory movie! :D

I could have milked it for a little more score by playing out a military victory or getting through a bit more of the tech tree, but I just didn't want to go through the trouble. Alliance was just so easy...I took the short route.

You guys are not going to believe this. I installed KotOR and I don't have the correct OpenGL to run it!!! >:( >:( >:( My stupid Graphic Accelerator only supports OpenGL 1.3 and the game needs OpenGL 1.4. I downloaded the most up-to-date driver from Intel, but it still isn't enough. I've emailed Intel now, hoping to get some resolution, but I think I'm screwed.

Looks like it's time to make some Yor pay the ultimate penalty, since I'm sure they use Intel technology. Probably are running Microsoft software, too. >:( >:(

Really hope to see you at Star Chamber soon, vincible. The game has been on Gamespot #1 (hits) for 4-5 days now and the gaming population has grown from 50 to 500 in the past week.

Well, it finally happened. One now has to have 100k to even get in the top 100 rank. Wow, how the metaverse has changed. :D

Okay, I've decided that it might be best to upgrade my graphics accelerator. I don't think they are all that expensive, I'll have to shop around a bit. Guess that Christmas money will come in handy! :D

Another weird week in store, as I will be off from work for another two days. :)

Didn't have a lot of time to dismantle Yor over the weekend so we'll see how this week goes. I'm looking forward to welding their arms together and forcing them to watch old episodes of "Happy Days". LOL

Theoden. In the latest Computer Gaming World (CGW) tech section, it looks like most high-end machines are shipping with a 256Mb Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 or 5950 Ultra. Some have a 256Mb ATI Radeon 9800 XT. From reading http://www.tomshardware.com/ over some time, it appears Nvidia and ATI swap places as the top video cards. The CGW "lean machine" (more budget minded) choice was a 128Mb Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 Ultra for under $200. A better card will do the job longer before it goes obsolete but costs more. It is painless to install video cards. That's pretty much what I know about new video cards. Good luck. :)

Hi all!

My last day of vacation is slipping away. I got a GameCube for Christmas, though, which will be some comfort when I return to the freezing cold, wet place I call home. As well as Galciv of course, and hopefully Star Chamber too.

Hello everybody!

It's been a looong time. Too much work in real life, but what can be done about that? Bill have to be paid, and I had some huge leases from my last game. Now that things have settled, I've been playing more often, and at least I managed to breach the 20000 barrier yesterday, so the year end on a better note (the good note was having galciv in the first place :) )
At least I'm not lost in the depths of the Metaverse. Back from the 2000s place into the 600s. It's better, even though very very faraway from most of you. But my main objective is just to have a ranking higher than my account number (player id), so another 50-60 places to go up and I'm ok. Maybe next year.

Well I just dropped by to wish you a happy new year, specially you who live in the east, and will be getting it before the others. It has been a pleasure talking with you all, sharing information and tips and strategies about the game. Without which I wouldn't have won my latest games. Thanks to your help, and see you next year. :)
