Altarian Prophecy Beta 2 Bug Reports

Please assume that I will want save games, debug.err files, and smart exception reports as applicable for reported bugs.  Save games in Altarian prophecy are only one file, no folders.

i know its still in beta testing and Cari and the others have said its still riddled with bugs, but from a personal point of view its too annoying.

Spellforce; you could do what I've done and setup a second install of Galciv :)

The AI starbases show up on the map even if you have never explored the sector after a few turns. (go to tactical and they are shown all over the map ... like how do they manage so many so quickly with the new logistics?)

The Senate party logos on race setup dont show up when clicking on details

The names for the two new races have the color of there name black (i think), you cant see them

The Metaverse submission screen only shows the original five AI's, it does not list the two new ones

The minors button on the diplomacy screen is displayed from the first go, vanilla GalCiv didnt show this button till you had encountered at least one race

The new UP screen is way cool, like that :)

Sorry if these might have been mentioned before, but im too busy playing the new beta to read through the posts ... :D

Exar Kuun:

I have vanilla Galciv on my C: drive in a Strategy first folder (it was a retail copy), AP is on my D: drive in a Stardock folder, i created two shortcuts from the main exe's and dumped them to desktop ... AP on one GC on the other ... is that not the norm? or if you have Drengin.net does it dump them to the same folder?

Darkspire,
I just auto-installed from stardock when the beta was made available. As far as I am concerned, it seems to have installed itself in another folder (somethink like C:\Program Files\Stardock\Drengin.net\AltarianProphecy). I've been playing both without problems so far (without reinstalling galciv again, I mean).

Hi Cari and others

Keep the tech fixes for 1.13 handy for the 2nd beta of AP cause it has the same tech tree goofs in it, both Large Scale Building and Xeno Intimidation have hyperspace as a required tech to make instead of 1 D Phasing. Cari you have a email with 2 screen shots to show ya

more possible bugs:

1) if you take over a planet that had a trade route with another race that you have trade embargo with you have to unclick and re-click the trade embargo to actually delete the trade route, otherwise the trade will still occur.

2) asked to go to war vs I-League and got 103 yes and 4294967293 no; yet war was status was granted.

3) Korx invasion screen is missing the Korx soldiers.

Hmm... Didn't notice any bugs on my first run-through :)... Guess I'll have to try harder - good work guys.

Frostblade - Did you have something like 3 or 6 votes against from a specific political party? I've gotten that error as well, and I think maybe the 100 senate votes are divided up among some set of parties, and any votes counted from the other parties go over the 100 maximum (4294967293 is three short of 2^32)

If you're taking reports of issues with the Scenarios:

1) Good and Evil - has the same alignment settings as every other scenario, but the teams don't suit them. Evil Drath is on the Good team, Good Toreans are on the Evil team.

2) "Powerful" is misspelt in the Attrition description

3) Custom scenarios can not be saved (they are rubbish when reloaded)

Other nitpicks:

Setup, Modify Race Abilities screen:

1) Luck - homonym, use "role" instead of "roll"

2) Speed - possessive, use "empire's" instead of "empires"

3) Trade - typo, use "amount" instead of "about"

4) Trade Routes - typo, missing "e" in "route"

Overview -
Remove the "s" that's concatenated onto the end of the race's name here. The first "it's" is possessive, so no apostrophe would be needed if you're going to use that word instead of "their". Since you're adding an "s" to the race name, and since all context is plural when it comes to the use of race names in this game, that first "has" should be "have". Maybe remove the word "Empire" in the last sentence as well.

Race Setups -
1) Wherever it is mentioned that there's a lot of lead in a planet's crust (the reason why a race isn't smart), the punctuation that should be used is "..." and not a comma in "bit, slow", if you want any punctuation there.

In game -

The Drath introduce themselves by saying they're not big fans of "creatures of the flesh". Not sure what that's supposed to mean. Sounds like something the Yor would say.

When downgrading your form of government:
1) If you're going from the Star Federation to any lower form, "Star Federation" is missing (after "the ") in the Senate Vote screen.

2) When going from Star Democracy to either of the two lower forms, it is referred to as Federation.

3) ... and when going from Republic to Imperial, Republic is referred to as Democracy.

Finally, if I load a save from a game in progress (as opposed to the main menu), I get a CTD.

If others don't report it, I'll send the save.

It's because they recounted the votes ;p

I reloaded from the menu screen in game several times (going back to make bug-related savegames), no problems here.

I have a Paladin ship in construction, for which the construction never ends: it stays stuck in "completed next month" phase (at least that's what they been telling me for the last 10 months or so ). I have a savegame previous to launching the fabrication and one when I noticed it would never end.
End of quote

Correcting myself (maybe):
I know this is a ship for which availability is based on moral alignement. It just occurred to me that maybe mine wasn't good enough. For now (with ship not being completed) my alignement is Good (91). Maybe I need saintly in order to be allowed to build it?

In that case, I think it would make more sense if the ship isn't available for construction even if I have the tech, until my alignement is good enough. Otherwise, as it is an expensive ship, It's just lost money: it should have been completed for ages and if I switch to another one I'll end up building the most expensive dreadnought in the history of space fare!

In that same game, in teh foreign policy stats page, (the Drengin have only one planet), their most populous planet is Poseidon (true), their happiets one is Earth :SURPRISED: !

I just checked, this is true for all civs stats page. We're such a happy bunch of people here on Earth, they all wish it was theirs!

Is that supposed to give the happiest planet in galaxy or their happiest?

Leave me a bug to find, I want the "bugfinder" medal! ;)

When starting a scenario, I have yet to discover, in game, where the scenario description shows up. There should be something in the Player Setup window, and perhaps the first years info blurb?

Also, are the two new empires influence handicapped? They seem to be wiped out in influence on the map, most of the time, unless the colors are just blending in to someone else.

1. If you have a trade embargo against the AI, then create an alliance with them --- the "break alliance" button covers the "trade embargo" button. Therefore I cannot modify trade embargo options when in an alliance.

2. Paladin will not get created. It simply remains at "1 month left".

3. No music playing for the new races when in diplomacy screen. Please make the new race music as good as Drengins!!

4. Somtimes the game slows down to 1 animation per 5 seconds. If I hold ctrl-alt-del for a while I can break out of it and continue my game. How ever hitting alt-tab or ctrol-alt-del once will not break the slowdown sequence.

5. The Governer's screen where you can add social projects to the queue needs to have "right-click" hyperlinks for definitions.

I'm using version 1.49 of the expansion.

I couldn't find it either. I ended up printing what Brad said in one of his first posts about AP, here: http://www.galciv.com/expansion.asp

In my game they rather have an excessive ego problem: their influence "controls" two thirds of my small galaxy. And yes, I think it blends with the Drengin (on my screen they have exactly the same color, so in the begining of the game I thought the Drengin were the biggets threat: not 5 years in ythe game, and their influence was all over the place. In fact they had one little planet, while the korx were the most powerfull).

I have the same thing. What was your moral alignement in the game? Mine was 91, and I thought that maybe it wasn't high enough.

I just had a CTD when left-clicking by mistake on a Yor mini freighter I wanted to attack. I also had that happening in 1.13, with carinoids mini freighter.

That's supposed to happen. You wouldn't be able to put a trade embargo on an ally so they put something else that applies in its place.

In my current game i turned "demonic" with a morality rate of 40. It looks like a bug
End of quote

I had something like that too. LOL

Maybe someone already saw this but just my 2 cents, I exchange one of my techs for StarFederation to another AI, I go to the government screen to change from Democracy to Star Federation and the program doesnot allow me to change the government, any clue?

In the same game i got my morality level up to 61 and bang i was saintly. It affects the UI (turns red or white) and it can be seen on the domestic screen.

It doesnt look as if it affects the AI's behavior towards (i couldn't tell for sure)

When you direct a ship to go to a colonized planet the "goto-mark" on the planet doesn't disappear after the ships arrived.

Spellforce, it sounds like you're missing something. Did you get any errors when downloading or instaling the new beta?  Is Debug.err reporting anything?

Starbases on resources will appear on the minimap if they are on a resource.  (On the tactical map it shows up in a square with a cross).

HercMighty, do you have a prefs.ini file in the data directory for Altarian Prophecy?  If yes, does it have the settings that it's not remembering?  I'm not sure how the colony ship ended up in orbit.  It's supposed to make you chose a planet to deposit the colonists on and then destroy the colony ship.

Brad is going to fix the minor races so that they don't purchase trade goods, and make other changes to make them more fair.

Nastavnik, the terran revolution thing is supposed to give you money, but it should have broken at least one planet off. I'm going to have to look into that.  If you were playing with a scenario, the scenario may have turned off some of your options. Do you have a save game to reproduce the paladin bug? You only have to be good in order to build the paladin.

If you re-install 1.13 make sure that you make the changes to the GCTech file again so that XenoIntimidation and that other tech have the correct tech requirements.  The Tech revolution UP issue should be fine though.

os2wiz: did you hit esc from within the game or had you just started the game?

DuoDecimal: So the crash doesn't happen if you load the save game from the opening menu, without being in a game? Does the crash happen no matter where you are in the game? (Planet data screen, diplomacy, etc?)  Do you have a SmartException report?

Aaberq: Demonic may be the wrong string (I'll have to check), but the evil threshold is 40.

Rabid Rob: I have to put in a place for the scenario description in the loading dialog.  I'll check into the influence thing; they may not be using the correct AI personality.

Jeffrey Pinard: You are not allowed to embargo your allies. Does the slowdown happen at a specific time? The end of a turn? Ship battles? You may want to check to see if you have the latest sound and video drivers. Driver or codec conflicts can cause the oddest problems in Gal Civ.

Shalom, how is it not letting you? Is your senate not voting for it? Is there no button? Is it just not doing it?

Nope, I wasn't playing a scenario

Yes, just checked it. I have one save a few turns before I start building it (I switched from another ship already in construction), and another when I noticed it wouldn't complete.

Are you suggesting I should re-install? When AP was made available, I just installed it. It was in another folder, and I've had no trouble playing with both.

I'll be sending you the saved games I have shortly!
Congratulations again for your great work :)

Edit: The saves are on their way

No, I'm not suggesting that you re-install 1.13, but a couple of people did and I'm reminding them that they probably had edited their files. :)

Reply to Carielf, there is no button to make the change, you know the one that says change government, I couldn't find it. :notsure:

Save games with rallypoints are not loading correctly.  I've fixed the problem here.  I tried removing the rallpoint information from a savegame that someone sent me to see if that would let me load it, but I must have deleted too many bytes because it started crashing in a different place then.  If anyone tries it and is successful, please let me know.

Shalom Shemesh,

The only code that I can see that would hide that button would be if you had the UP issue that forces you to change governments.
