Altarian Prophecy Beta 2 Bug Reports

Please assume that I will want save games, debug.err files, and smart exception reports as applicable for reported bugs.  Save games in Altarian prophecy are only one file, no folders.

Cari,

The starbases are not in the list at all. Not under planets or ships. They only had one planet left but had at least 4 starbases that I know about but none are listed on the Diplomacy screen.

Interestingly enough the Starships section has a scroll bar which does move but there are no items listed at all. No starbases, no Defenders, No Colony Ships and No Dreadnought. I'm looking at their last planet and they have 4 ships in orbit plus the four starbases i can see. Nothing but an empty scroll bar on the Speak To screen.

I have visible entries on my side under Starships for all kinds of stuff including Starbases but I also have empty space at the bottom of the list. Enough that I can scroll the last visible ship off the top and be looking at empty space.

BTW this only seems to happen when you are at war with the race in question.

I just completed the game and the summary score seems to be missing some information. According to the Military summary, 'Soldiers killed in Battle' is zero. Yet i dumped a billions of troops on to multiple planets on my way through three races. Destroyed Torian, Drengin and Yor using military conquest. Why does my score read 0? Is this good or bad?

The only race with a figure for soldiers killed in battle is the Torian. Everyone else is 0.

Several races didn't finish the game but the Drengin race is the only one without a ship under 'Most Powerful Ship' column.

On the tech summary, Drengin and Yor have no entry for 'Most Time-Intensive tech'.

For Economy the Drengin have all zeros except for score.

Could it be that some information is lost when you load a saved game?

And AAHHH no option to send info to Metaverse. It didn't even come up :-(

Cari,

Can we please fix two things:

1) When the metaverse is not available, like now, the game needs to cache the final result. There is nothing worse in my humble opinion than getting to the end of a gigantic map game and having the score lost. Especially after the hours that go into the game.

2) When you load a game, your influence power does not reflect the power you had when you saved the game. Whole sections of the map come up as 'no overall control'. It isn't until several turns later than you regain your full influence.

While on 2), I loaded my saved game from 0mths for Cultural Victory and ended up playing 3-4 months more to actually get to 0mths to win. That doesn't really make sense as when i reloaded the game i should have been back at 0mths to win immediately and not 58% of winning condidtions.

Cheers,
Dominic

Cari, It is totally random when it happens - somewhat rare. But when it does happen, it's always late game.

I believe this is intentional because it would take too long to save and load if it did save the influence as it is.

Cari Rules!

More oddities...

1) Auto Survey is not quite working. Only seems to be able to target anomalies visible -- that is, in scanner range of one of my ships. AIs are getting all the goodies now! LOL

2) Remark on the Good vs. Evil Scenario... Note that making your Team buddies more powerfull increases the difficulty. As long as you can keep their influence from swallowing you, I don't think they're really such a threat. Plus, you can ally with the "evil" side as well as your "good" buddies, thus getting alliance victory. Perhaps cross-team alliances should be prevented?

3) When in the diplomacy screen, right clicking on a trade good for more info does... nothing.

4) Diplomacy screen: Right click info on a Starbase does not indicate it's upgrades or, most importantly, whether it is on a trade good. It is a little annoying to have to hunt down the ones you want to trade for, and then come back.

5) Diplomacy screen: This is an little old annoying thing, and it's not easy to replicate, I hope I'm not the only one who sees this. Sometimes when messing around in the techs, where the program thinks the point of the mouse is lags a few pixels below the point of the mouse. I have to move a lot of techs around to cause this, eg, selecting them all in the top, then selecting them in the bottom (so they go back to the top) will sometimes cause it when I go back to the techs in the upper area. Moving the slider on a large list in the upper area can do it to. A commonality I see is that the currently selected tech in the top is not in the viewable area.

6) Tech Tree Viewer: Right clicking on a tech brings up the selected tech, instead of the one I clicked on.

7) Tech Tree Viewer: Needle in Haystack here. I saw a tech which did not have scroll bars enabled, even though it needed it. Later I noticed that all the other techs I was looking at did have scroll bars when they needed them. So everyone should pay attention to those scroll bars from now on ;)

8) Rally Point Evilness: As noted elsewhere, these mess up your save game. I think they also make the game a little unstable so it will CTD eventually, as I have a save game where I kept loading, messing around with rally pts, and eventually crashing (or saving, and not being able to get back in). I also found that renaming a Rally point (Strike Point Alpha!) and/or changing it's mission to Fleet (Kill the Yor!) appears to break it. I tried setting ships to move to Strike Point Alpha, they would move one turn, then the next turn, ask me to give them movement orders.

Sorry for all the work Cari, really I am!

This is by design. The influence formula is heavily recursive and it would take to long to save an exact state.

It's the spaces. If the Rally Point is renamed, the game gets confused when it hits a space, even though it works correctly with the default Rally Point X, despite the spaces in the default names.

When's the next update due to be posted on Stardock for Altarian Prohpecy?

And once again, sorry about the triple posting up above. My connection was in limbo, and I didn't realize each time they'd actually "taken".

Does anyone has seen the new ships that were suppose to be included in this beta, or I am asking a question already answered?
Yes I saw the Sovereign. But did not had a chance o use it: my ennemies had no ships left by the time they were completed... Good looking though :)
I'm curious about the Paladin. I'll try to make one today

Tried to post a response yesterday, but got an error when submitting.

Dominic, the AI will not trade any ships with you when you are at war with them.

I'm not sure what could be causing the soldiers killed in battle thing, unless it wasn't restoring that data correctly from the save game.  Can you send me your end game save?

Were you connected to the internet? It won't go to the submit screen unless you're connected to the internet at that time.

The influence has always needed a few turns to re-calculate.  I can look into it again, but it seems to me that there was a reason that we made it re-calculate, or we would have fixed it by now.

Rabid Rob,

1) Umm, it should be able to set a destination for anomalies in explored ares, even if they're currently under the FOW. Is it not doing that?

My schedule says that we're due to put up another build tomorrow, but I haven't heard if that's still the plan or not.

I got this same bug last night in version 1.13. I was in negotiation with a race and although they had a ship scrollbar the list was empty.

Minors will not negotiate their ships/starbases. That could be what you saw.
Yes, I've often wished I could take some of the dozens of ships the Carinoids seem to build off their hands! I suppose that just allows them to keep a defense.

By the way, minors also don't build starbases. I sometimes will gift a minor an influence starbase to keep them from flipping to me, just so I have a friendly trade partner during wartime!

I played a game two days ago. Everything went fine but it CTD'ed once i had won. I figured that this was just a way to avoid submissions, but it looks as if that isn't the case. I have an Endgame save if that would be any good.

Carielf anyway to get a link to the clean files for the new ships?

Spellforce,

Yes, did you get my e-mail? I suggested that you look through your tech mods and make sure that none of them have an ID greater than that of the impossible tech.  You should be able to make the impossible tech a higher ID if necessary.

Aaberg,

Yes, the save game would probably useful.  Were you playing with a custom map or scenario?

Shalom Shemesh, I can't currently access my ftp account and I forgot to post a link for the new ships. I should be able to put it up tomorrow.  We may also do another update tomorrow.

Cari, regarding End game CTD: I wasen't on-linr when the game ended i just tried again (while on-line) and bingo - no CTD.

I will check if i can recreate the CTD (off-line) tonight. If so i will mail the save game
