Canadian Star Federation Thread

I figured it needed to be reposted since the #4 empire should have a current discussion thread active.

Well it's clear that I alone can't keep up with the Special Forces. Unless we get a more widespread group submitting we may be abdicating 6th place for awhile.

I did manage to add about 80,000 points to my own score in the past week. That's not bad.

I have another medium Masochistic game to submit tonight. I finished it in the waiting room while getting my brakes serviced this morning. :-)

We are not the Special Farces, we are the Rudeboys crew!

Don't abandon so quickly. If you keep on fighting, before you know it you will be in second place. ;)

Yeah, but I think I'm getting tired of GalCiv again... :-)

In case you didn't notice, look at my history, I play a few games, then take a month off... :-)

P.S. yeah, I means Reals Beyond, not Special Forces. That serves me right for depending on my memory. If only I could remember to stop doing that!

Oh, I'll have to play at least one more before taking a break. After I submit my finished game tonight, I'll only be 1 game away from moving up to Vice Admiral

Well, I just submitted my latest "win" at Masochistic. I know this has been brought up many times before, but the AIs are just not able to detect culture attacks good enough.

I was playing in a medium universe, and I only had
5 planets in a single sector. The other races had basically already discovered everything and were fighting amongst themselves, when my waves of constructors took off. First I took back the other two planets in my sector I had to "gift" to the Drengin earlier to avoid a war. Then with my 7 planets doing nothing but pumping out constructors, I strategically chose a single sector to culture bomb that was adjacent to 70% of the the biggest race's (Torian) planets. So I basically cut him off at his knees. I then targetted another sector that was adjacent to about 70% of the now biggest race's planets. (Altareans). So after that was done, I went from a pathetic 5 planets (in 3 star systems) to controlling 70% of the galaxy, all the while the computer AIs didn't even react. They're flying around with Excaliburs and I don't even have a ship. Anyway, so I eliminate all but 2 of the Torian planets. At which point I get the warning that I'm going to win a cultural victory, so I quickly destroy my starbases, and attack one of the Torian ships. War breaks out, and by now since I control 95% of the planets and have Excaliburs of my own rolling off the assembly lines, it's a quick battle. Especially since the stupid Torians only built a few Excaliburs and seem to depend on Rangers, which of course can't destroy my 5-6 Excalibers. So I get the military victory for what should have been an terrible loss...

Ruby red lips - give me a break. :)

Hey Paguma, don't burn out now, mon. The expansion will be out next month, and RB may craft a tournament, which could be to your liking. The patches are finally maturing... The game's just getting good now. You can't leave us! We need you!

As I mentioned before, I won't be buying the expansion, so that's no good to me. Although I am curious about the 2 new races, I just don't think it's worth $20USD for the amount I'm likely to play it. I may change my mind months from now though, who knows.

P.S. What is Captain Flash smoking?

I hear you and been watching your score rise greatly in the last month. Great Work !!!

Now if we get some defectors back and find more Canadians...

I posted a lowly 11000 point game yesterday, I will keep trying to wear down every other empire by constantly submitting and keep trying to boost the difficultly.

The only problem I have is boostling the level the game becomes less fun.

Follow a Formula to Win,
Find Humanity totally roasted by other races,
Get dragged into Wars time after time is not fun.

Playing lower difficulty games is not a problem, Technician. Think about it this way...as long as you're having fun, you're playing the game and submitting. If you stop having fun, you'll stop playing and therefore stop submitting games. Now you can submit many 11,000 point games and do a lot more than posting one or two 50,000 point games and burning out.

So play the game you want to play. In the end, it's the option that makes the most sense.

I don't think Masochistic is the best way to play. My favorite level to play for fun would be with all the AI at Intelligent. I think that's Crippling? I play Masochistic just for the points, which is why I play medium or small galaxies, so I can finish them fast.

When I play for real fun, I would play Crippling in Huge or Gigantic maps. That can keep me busy for days! I'd get less points than Masochistic smalls though...

So Our Lady has spoken... Seems that htere is an alignment problem with the ability display screen. THe ability I thought was PQ is not PQ. The PQ ability appears to be one line up. Which of course would explain how I missed it. The Goddess has stated that this has been fixed in her copy. I now await the latest and greatest patch. Until such time I'll need to fore go the mods to prvent the big fat sinkin' zero. :sniff!:

Some of us play Maso for fun. :)

Crippling is better if you want to go on the attack quickly, but have you seen this report?

http://sirian.warpcore.org/galciv/losing.html

That game was a blast, and would have been far too easy on Crippling (for me at least). I had a great time with this game, too:

http://sirian.warpcore.org/galciv/no-picks.html

Why psych yourselves up to say Maso is no fun? Fun is where you find it.
