But it had to go through moderation because you insist on staying at a low access group. If you didn't insist on that, you would be a Journeyman by now easily. A Journeyman who uploads bypasses moderation and their submission goes directly into the library. Hence this saves the admins work. But you wouldn't want to give everyone the ability to upload right t

Your just stubborn Paxx. To you, access groups are some sort of caste system. To us, they are merley access groups that provide gradiations between user and administrator. Thus as we come to trust users, we can give them more responsibility.

The ratings are for the users, not for the artists really. And they're for the site. By having ratings, the site can help filter out "stuff". Other sites would simply delete most of the wallpapers. That's how skinz.org handled it and the result was constant message board flame wars. Late last week we did a band width analysis to see where the bandwidth goes. Around 20% of it was spent on THUMBNAILS alone. We made a change in which anonymous users would see the tiny thumbnails (we store 2 sizes of thumbnails - tiny and large) by default instead of the large ones. Sure enough, bandwidth use went down. Other than Explorer icons, WebBlinds does everything it does and then some. WebBlinds fully skins IE. It has alpha blended throbbers (nobody else has done that). It can fully change the color of IE (nothing else can do that). You can mix and match throbbers, buttons, and skins (nothing else can do that).

No rating system is perfect. WinCustomize has an access system that promotes quasi-moderation. That is, rather than just have all 30,000 people with accounts putting in ratings and instead of just limiting it to moderators, those with access between user and moderator can also rate. I don't moderate most skins but my guess is that because your skins are photoskinz, they were rejected. But I can't say for sure. We are going to be making the submission guidelines tougher and I have requested that the moderators feel free to decline submissions that are photo skins or are of visually low quality. (your skins look nice to me so I doubt it was the visual quality in your case). Some of the wallpapers, for instance, recently uploaded have been..well, terrible.
The large thumbnails use on average 33K apiece. The small ones use about 6K apiece. The site has typically around 300 people on the site at once browsing the skin library. If each user is browsing a library with teh default 10 skins displaying per page, that's 330K just in thumbnails PER user. Changing the thumbnails saved a full megabit of bandwidth.
