i give in i have been fighting off the demon hoards of hell for a while now, but while i was looking the other way stardock pulled a fast one, and out flanked me /me *sigh* it all started when the winXP beta's arrived at work. at first most of the office was going on endlessly about how it was so useless and bloated, taking time out to complain that i was slowing down my work machine terminally by running window blinds. this was irritating, but after a while i got used to it.<

i have heard that you can set a different skin for the XP start bar to the main windows skin in XP. is it possible you have done this, but selected a title bar skin that doesnt actually contain an XP title bar section?

a further thought, would it be sensible to post simple instructions on finding / using this on the windowblinds newsgroup? lots of people using win9x are still posting about the fact that the skins list in displays properies isnt alphabetical. using the "big" front end gives a sorted list, solving this problem most neatly.

TheGreenReaper - Now, IE only has to worry about theming on XP. There, too, IE paints it's own scrollbars, but it does it by finding out what the scrollbars look like on it's own. Since it only does this on XP, though, WB can only skin it on XP. yep, that is what i understood. however, my question is, can the "bit" of IE that does this be "ported" across to other versions of windows? i suspect that this may be possible by hacking around with the dll type files. i dont lik

/me decides to play devils advocate so does this mean that someone can argue that WB is still making a heavier demand than XP skining? it sounds like XP adds this dll to every skinned process. but WB3 uses this dll, plus its own, so it adds a greater load to every process. /me gets board of the devil not having XP, this is basically academic to me, but still very amusing

Frogboy - MS only made IE6 skinnable on XP. /me wonders. . . is this tied to a specific dll (type of thing)? the idea is, is it possible to port this skinability to other OS's by playing with replacement dll's? if so, can it be done cleanly by windowblinds at some point? /me doesnt fancy hacking a working OS just for IE scroll bars

i think to a degree what is needed is just some tidying up of the interface. for example the new drag target to get program name for setting excluded applications is a significant usability gain. one of the things i am still waiting for is the reapearance of the main, sortable, list of skins to select the desired one from. remember all the excitement in the newsgroups when it was anounced the new look WB 2 was going to use for skin selection? it seems wrong to loose t
