No good war stories in my last few games. The only one that got me going was one of the AIs decided to play culture war with me. I decided to respond in kind by creating a terror star (think of an Octoberish Halloween terror/horror flick). I "showed" their home world one Terror Star performance. They were really blown away by the special effects. :D They must have enjoyed it as I didn't hear any complaints.
trick that works in GalCiv 1.21. Send your invasion force. Stop within your striking range and outside theirs. (I always have a +1 or +2 on speed, and have traded for Gravity Accelerators by the time I start warmongering.) Declare war. Enemy sends ships away from planets and toward your ships. (If a planet has only one defender, the AI will not order that ship to leave under any circumstances.) The planets are more lightly defended, you go around the ships that are attempting to intercept

I burned a cd with my Gal Civ folder and then moved it from the cd to the new computer's hard drive. No installs or mod downloads as it went in one shot. I may be forgetting something but how would I know. :)
Are using putting them with others ships (who have a high defense) in a fleet? Don't forget that you could always move a fleet, split it before attacking, and rebuild it after the attack.
Peace, I think my problem with them stemmed from the fact war would breakout while they were moving towards their way points (I think the game calls them Rally points). I would then use them on nearby enemy ships but they couldn't eliminate them by themselves. I would then lose a milit

The amount of experience a ship gets for winning depends partly on how tough the enemy ship was.If I wanted a high level frigate for some reason, I'd find a weak enemy with lots of small ships (or I'd build lots of small ships and give them to the weak enemy). This is a quote from Matthew Downie (a fellow player). I have used them (frigates) as smaller capital ships and had them take on similar classed opponents. This would suggest to give them a graduated combat experience to muscle
My invasion force was light (a handful of paladins, some battle hammers - a change from my usual frigates - and always bunches of antimatter missiles), and there were too many big ships defending. So I bribed the Altarians to declare war so the Drath would send the big ships to attack. Away go those pesky dreadnoughts and phoenixes, in comes my fleet.
I usually get the AI's to go to war as a delaying tactic and/or to become their major trading partner and/or to take their

Much thanks for your input. You truly have a wealth of knowledge.
My war strategy is to keep the peace until I can pull off an alpha strike.
I am with you on this one. Especially when my fleet is way behind in numbers to the AI's. If our fleets are somewhat close I will use a 1-2 punch. I create double duty strike forces that take out half of their systems,(then sue for peace if I can) and then take out the other half a couple of turns later. [q
I guess your looking for Foundation Players.
Nope, I have been trundling out my war stories at numerous places in the forums. There are few true military types in the verse. As you know, war get short shrift in the Alliance-friendly Metaverse. Check-out the Embassy thread involving Icho. Read the missives. Then tell me if I am even remotely a recruiter type. I have too much respect for people's free will to do anything but help them identify all of their options. B

I was patrolling the Metaverse and came upon y’all’s (I’m from Texas, so I type with a drawl) player entries. I was drawn to the many Military Conquest win conditions that y’all attained. I have only been playing for about 6 months but I haven’t seen any posts from you guys so I was wondering if you would like to swap some war stories and/or tips. I learned early in life that you could either be a student of history or the next chapter’s victim. If given the choice, I would choose the former
Aside from the approximate total of $4 million USD owed to various investors, Strategy First's biggest debt is the $1.7 million USD in royalties owed to game developers around the world.
Yikes, bad news Hari, er Matthew. I would very much like to hear from Mssrs. Wardell and crew.
If we can come to an agreement want to join...
I made a deal that if I was the only one (in my empire)submitting games in one month, I would move on to another empire. I will seriously consider your offer. One thing, if I join can I retain a Senate seat (per my existing New Texas Republic arrangement)? BTW, System Lords is a good name as it works on a few levels (i.e. Star System, Computer System, Maso-play System) I think Homer lifted the name Max Pow
except that Tech just posted 7 games in 2 days!
Oh great, it looks like Tech is bingeing again.
Actually, I'm the founder.
I didn't know that you, Matthew D., were the founder. It looks like Tech could use a sponsor. (hint hint) [Message Edited]
"Dude. What is UP, man?!"
LOL LOL LOL Some have suggested that Tech is insane. I think we should all show respect for Tech. He is not only the number 1 guy in the verse but he also will ultimately become the founder of a 12 step program entitled; "Galactic Civilizations Anonymous" [Message Edited]

Um, if anyone cares, there is still the problem of losing games from the Metaverse logs. Back in August, I captured the first 4 pages of Metaverse (entries 1-100). I compared the August 1st Meta to todays (9/3) version (not exhaustively). Some of the players affected include: Primipilus Alexus 265 - 260 = 5 games lost Jaws 125 - 124 = 1 game lost Doug Deagnon 40 - 39 = 1 game lost (I think I noted this in another thread) Maxtipherous 45 - 44 = 1 gam

I know what you mean about the manual (or lack thereof). I had almost half of the tech tree (with costs) reinvented before finding this work done at the Orion site. Your comments do make me think that one way to create a somewhat thriving player community is to create a minimal player's manual. Player's are almost forced into banding together and sharing strategies as there isn't any other recourse.

Netscape doesn't support the pointer pop-up window, nor the quote icon. IE does support these features. I use Netscape 7.2 and I may have some of the settings selected to prevent same.
You mean wiping out Billions of people and annihillating the star system is evil?
No. Wiping out billions of people is, apparently, never evil. Killing a few soil eating worms is most definitely evil. Bumper stickers on the Metaverse would read: "Save the Worms, Collect the Whole Set" or "Terror Stars don't kill people, people kill people"

Games are definitely being dropped by the Meta. For example, "Doug Deagnon" had 40 games and 550+k points a few days ago. He now has 39 games and 328+k points. His first game now shows 9/5/2003. The dropping of games > than 1 year old may be a NAPWAD (i.e. not a problem works as designed). Yes, I did work in an IT department for 20+ years, hence the acronyms.
