I'm an atheist. My life experience suggests that there is no possibility of a God existing in any shape or form resembling the idea espoused by the monotheistic religions. But I am not afraid of going to hell if I'm wrong. Not because of some wrong-headed certainty that I have got it all right. But because if there is a hell, it was created by some divine being, and I assume it was that very same being that created me. And it would be that being t

This is probably the dumbest piece of writing I have read in a long time. "More importantly, in the life and death issues that confront any leader of a nation, he humbles himself before the God of all creation, the one and only God, and ask for guidance. That is very cool." Indeed.

I wonder why I have this blog here. I haven't used it in months and I'm not the kind of person who offers up his thoughts unprovoked. I am usually responding to others. I am a critical son-of-a-bitch. I am always contradicting myself and loved ones. I can only really perceive my beliefs clearly in contrast to the beliefs of other people. I am not a blowhard that

Everyone should strive for realism. But as far as I know, realism entails neither optimism nor pessimism. I say that because I don't know what's real. If in truth we are all doomed, then indeed we have good reason to be optimistic. If everything is going to be ok, well that just makes me sick.

Oh and by the way, it is very misleading to identify the Left with Democrats and the Right with Republicans. Dems and Repubs are only thin slices of the true political spectrum. So many are guilty of missing this distinction.

"The jury is still out on the strategies employed in Afghanistan and Iraq." Your analysis seems pretty reasonable until this last sentence. If the question is whether the strategies in Afghanistan and Iraq were successes or failures, in the context of the war on terror, it seems your whole article before the last sentence answers that question. If by "jury" you mean general consensus, then you are right to say it is still "out."

Not that anyone missed me. I am back. I will be posting trivial tidbits of non-creative garbage from time to time just to satisfy a grim obsession that is nothing short of ego-stroking. Beware! Your pathetic existence will be diminished by paying attention to futher posts.

QUALITATIVE COMMENTS: (with 1.0 mg) There is almost certainly an effect. Physically there is a slight dryness in the mouth, and my eyes are noticeably dilated. There is an eerie feeling overall. (with 2.3 mg) Mood elevation at 2-3 hrs. After 3 hours, emotional effects become more pronounced, enhancement of color also. Very little distortion of perception,

Do you ever wonder why people grab at leaves and branches of trees when they walk by. We all do it and there seems to be no obvious explanation for doing so other than it just feels right. I do it from the windows of automobiles too. Whenever a branch is passing my way, I grab at it and yank off some foliage. Why? I have an original theory about this but

Everyone breaks the law. People love their freedom and that just doesn't cut it in this country, where quite possibly everything that is fun, other than violence, has been outlawed. No prostitutes, no drugs (well not the cool ones), no good movies, seatbelts, no kinky sex. Which are your favorites? I do __________ with friends all the time!!!

But perhaps you understand the theory that maybe those "individuals" that prosper the most from doing business in America should foot a larger share of the bill than the middle class, the people working two jobs to make ends meet. I can't comment on your explanation of the tax code, though I doubt it is inaccurate. The tax system is in drastic need of reformatting, as it has been for years. However it is the belief of many American

My friend Dylarama Link has proposed he and I develop an ideal political system. This is essentially a discussion about how best to order society, viz., Plato's Republic. Now the prudent observer will notice that from the outset this is an exercise in futility, but it could be productive in at least a linguistic sense as we wil

Juan Cole Link details this Sunday's Sadrist uprising in Iraq. This does not bode well for anyone. Iraq is going to become an even more dangerous place if these trends continue.

Dan. This idea that everyone will be replaced by robots is idiotic. People will demand jobs or demand that they no longer need to pay to live, if all the work can be done without their participation.

DG, thanks for the name drop. I'm so happy you've liked my posts so far. I will try not to disappoint. I've taken a liking to you to, though I have to say that my attention keeps gettting drawn towards the posts that I disagree with. I think it is everyone's duty to not let hate and ignorance go unchecked.
