I can't imagine how much it must hurt to not get to have your boys with you all the time. I try not to think about it too much. I miss them a lot and sometimes it's even hard to ignore that feeling when they're here... it sometimes carries over from the other 12 days into the 2 I get to spend with the

This is the first time I've seen my boys since I gave them back after Christmas. Contractually, that weekend was mine but I offered it to her because the boys missed their mother, and it didn't make much sense to give them back on a Wednesday afternoon just to take them away again on Friday. I'm finding that I'm feeling more domestic while they're here. Are

Rosetta Stone was what I was considering, and your endorsement of the program makes a big difference. Do you know anyone who has used that pretty much exclusively? I'm planning on getting to it later this year, but I'm working through the Arabic one now as part of a self-imposed study regimen. Because:

Please note that this article is not specifically about this site, although that is where I'm most familiar with the term "free ice cream" from. But it could easily be changed to be so... I've placed this under Personal Relationships instead of Blogging, though. I subscribe to a free "online" "magazine" about a hobby of mine: collectible miniature game

He will love me even if I do sink to the level of the masses and conform to the unreasonable standard that requires a piece of paper to claim competency. I believe he will. I was just wondering how much trash-talk was occurring over this. <img src="../images/smiles/joke.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle"

I haven't seen that in years, good flick. It was way too long. 3 hours? Sometimes I don't sleep for three hours. I used to get a club sandwich on a chocolate chi

We received notification late (1440) Friday. The family had requested full honors but we were unable to organize the firing squad in such a short time. The deceased served honorably so was certainly entitled to military honors at his funeral, so myself and another Staff Sergeant made the arrangements for today. We performed it as a two-man detail and practi

Congrats on the good news. I hope they give you a good house. I hope you figure out things with Henry. It's tough losing a little furry friend.

Creeping Death by Metallica. (Depending on your tastes, anything by Metallica could be good or bad for a funeral...) It's The End Of The World As I Know It (And I Feel Fine) is by REM. What's with your focus on clowns? Were you considering #6 specifically to go with the clown suit? And would you have the full grease paint makeup on? If you did, I'd be sure to accuse "them" of a conspiracy to plant the wrong body. I

Keep trying. You might find one or two crazies, but so far you're bust. If Islam was the problem, you wouldn't NEED to have these ties overseas. They'd have their militias here just like wacko racist Christians do. You said this in response to Dr. Guy's statement, which was in response to your:

I have Sirius radio and it does rile me (just a tiny bit) that I'm basically supporting Stern by listening to music I enjoy. I wonder how they decided which of the new subscriptions were due to his presence and which weren't?

Today, I began to take over the Physical Training responsibilities for the soldier trainees who have a restriction on what sort of PT they can perform due to an injury. My first assessment is this: they've had it too good for too long. We (and I mean the SFC in charge of the overall PT program for our company; I'd just be the guy to implement and hopefully i

Yeah on the refund! Actually, they are recouping the money from me, so... It's actually pretty good motivation to get this class done (since I'd owe about $700 more if I dropped this one).

My online class began in early December and is slated for 8 weeks, so it's half over. I discovered, when I arrived at my parents' house, that the free internet connection that the military program I am involved with provides was unavailable to me, possibly due to password/userID issues. My attempts to contact them were met with much resistance, as the Helpdesk perso

In the meantime, I'm working on persuading Dave to let us move. SOON. You must feel very strongly about this statement.

Last time I was on Staff Duty, I had to put an emergency work order in for some students in the barracks. Seems a drip from their ventilation turned into a stream of water overnight. Half their floor was soaked and they had to leave to go to class. It seems that emergency work order means, "We'll get out there today, if we can." There was still a stream of water from their vent when I left that morning... I hope they got out there

I've been feeling pretty domestic this week. I've made banana bread (because I had near rotten bananas), bourbon yams (for a Company holiday party) and cookies (because my sons are here). These are all things I'm pretty familiar with making now... so come January I'll need to branch out. Heck, I've almost gotten these recipes memorized I do them enough.

Last Friday, the cadre member serving as the Platoon Sergeant for the linguist students asked if I would be willing to help out with a Color Guard detail for a wreath laying ceremony on the 14th. Three of the four Army personnel who would normally participate would be involved in a combatives class. I told him immediately that I'd be happy to do it. (I checked with
