The meshes you see can all be done in Illustrator, though multiple layers are probably used due to the complexity of most of them. Applying transparencies in Illustrator requires mask layers, and direct-selecting the individual paths to apply color in a complex mesh like those shown would be quite the effort. I also like the mesh tool in CorelDRAW a bit better. The interactive transparency and mesh fill tools are easy to access and use without

I have seen a couple articles on Adobe web site in the Illustrator tutorials where a scanned image was used as a guide to create a mesh - I think it was a tutorial on using the mesh tool and applying color and transparencies. Jafo may have the right track there.

I'm not a coder, so here it is in layman's terms: An object dock is an anchor point for links (displayed as images which are usually referred to as icons) to the following: (1) Various system functions (i.e., My Documents, My Computer, Drives, etc.), (2) Programs (i.e., Word, Photoshop, WindowBlinds, CorelDRAW, etc.), (3) Internet sites - usually referred to as "URL's" (i.e., WinCustomize, Google, devianART, etc.), and can also include (4) Doc

notjawn, Create a dock, right-click dock, select "Add entry > New Flyout Menu. A dialog will appear with a list for common system links, or create your own.

It would be interesting, though improbable, to see what another company placed in the position Microsoft has been in would do. Human nature is what it is, and idealism is wonderful - but not very useful in the competitive, even warlike environment of big business. An interesting experiment. Anybody think it will happen?

It sounds like you are trying to save an executible installer file (.exe) to the "Program Files" directory. The job of the installer file is to install all the program files in their correct location and to register them with the OS. You should be able to download and save the file to "My Documents", then double-click the Installer file which will begin the installation process (you may have to unzip the file if it is in a ".zip" fo

I am not a coder, so it sounds like you are way ahead of me there. I do know that DesktopX does not skin or modify the Explorer shell, Taskbar, or Start menu - "WindowBlinds" is the program that does that job. "Tabs on your desktop" sounds like you want a tabbed dock set-up with links to system functions, programs, and URL's - "ObjectDock Plus" does this job (ObjectDock only uses non-tabbed docks, but it is free). Object Desktop will give you a one year subscription which includes Stardock Central. This is the program you run and it has all the downloadable programs for the suite as well as other free and purchasable software. It is a great set up which shows you any updates available as soon as you load it, and has links to news groups and other nice features. I find it to be a great bargain. Note - WinCustomize subscriptions are a se

Will, I agree that appreciation is due for all the art offered for free here at WC. Compensation for hard work is always good. I think a big issue for this idea might end up being in the support field. If someone has issues with a downloaded skin, who does the user contact and what are their rights. I have noticed that once a person pays for something, there is an inherent need for the product to work properly or for

Zero, It was worth a try anyway, at least you have verified the issue as local. Has anyone e-mailed Stardock support to see when a new free version will be made available?

I must have misunderstood. I thought MS was requiring verification of OS license and the WINE developer was testing the verification software and found that WINE does not get authentication?

SOME OBJECT DOCK BASICS The Problem: I have just installed ObjectDock and downloaded some docks and some icons. Now what do I do? The solution: First there is a bit of preliminary information that will help to understand what we are about to do - When ObjectDock is installed, there is a "ObjectDock" folder (directory) created which is found in "C:\Program Files\Stardock" Folder (where "C" is the letter drive).<B

Arapaho, One thing you might try is verifying whether it is a local problem (the program installed on your computer), or a network/internet problem downloading. I have not used the free version, so I am assuming that the program comes with a couple of suites and that you have at least a couple of the programs such as WindowBlinds, IconPackager, etc. installed on your machine. If this is the case, then you can try the procedure below.<

Well, since I paid for both my Windows XP OS and my MS Office, I am glad I can get some added value over the years. It sounds like MS is going to make "most if not all updates for MS Office available" no matter the underlying platform. Seems pretty fair after seeing the report stating that "80% of MS Office installations, and around 70% of Windows installations around the world are illegal". Those percentages can't look goo

Frogboy, Thanks for the clarification and the thread. I have just recently started skinning, at least a couple walls and some icons to start, and I know my first reaction is "Oh good, my work made it through moderation" and then I take a look at the rating to gauge how much work I need to put forth to improve. My stuff is all 2.5 or 3 stars with I think one set of icons at 3.5 stars. For me there will always be a need to impr
