though Nakor says he's already ho-hum about Vista after 10 months of it It still needs a lot of optimization, but most of the old contols seem to be there, with quite a few bells and whistles besides. Assuming MS optimizes it well in RC1 and final, it

Looks like request time is increasing in many cases on my end. The pages seem to load quicker than in the past (when they load fast). I sense the falling back to slow speed loads and errors may be on the horizon if the issue is not discovered.

If I am understanding the situation correctly, we will be able to run Vista fine, but that the GPU may prevent multiple programs from accessing the 3D capabilities at once. This may show up as a decrease in performance in either the Windows GUI (drawing the Aero images), or the performance of the additional programs attempting to access the GPU for the 3D functionality (i.e., games, video editing, and/or graphic intensive programs). Again, that is what I got from the article a

I do not know if this has been posted yet or not, but it would seem that Microsoft has discovered the need to rethink the current display driver model that is due to ship with Vista, which may require users to invest in a new graphics card in the near future. As one who owns a notebook and who knows the lag time between release to manufacturers and public availability of a notebook graphics card (if available in the correct form factor at all), I find myself wondering about the viabil

Try downloading and running the "SCR" fix from here http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm That should give you back the functionality. If you have issues with the icons in "C:\WINDOWS\System32" folder not being correct for the screensaver files, you can try creating a "DefaultIcon" (REG_SZ) sub-key under "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\scrfile", and give it a "%1" value. Note - this sub-key is not there under a clean insta

Better response time in general, and specifically in the main forum page load. I am seeing a bit slower speed (compared to main page load) in loading a selected post, or personal page, but nothing that would be considered inordinately slow (currently they load in 5 seconds or less on cable broadband). Well done!

Bigboy3457, As Bichur indicates for CursorXP, you will need the appropriate program installed for any given skin (with the exception of Wallpapers, and perhaps miscellaneous icons). Once you have the program installed, you can download content (skins and/or themes) for that program and usually double-click the downloaded file (with the correct file extension as indicated in the opening comment of this post). For some information on successful downloading procedures, yo

BarbieDahl, Having used Bryce 5 & 5.5, I would recommend getting a good understanding of the following: 1 - The mathmatical expression of location in the scene (explained in a basic way in the tutorial). This will allow you to place your objects in relation to each other using the "Attributes" dialog (accessible using the little "A" icon displayed when any object is selected). 2 - Boolean objects (these are the complex objects that result from combining two or mor

Therefore, when I compare a Dell to a Mac, I have to add at least an additional 2,000 dollars to the Dell (Photoshop, and the like). Therefore, when it comes down to my OBJECTIVE (YEAH RIGHT!) price comparison, the Mac is cheaper. At least 1,750 dollars cheaper. This does not sound correct. You would need to spend about $100 to upgrade

It also will sport a quite remarkable pricetag of $450 I do not believe microsoft has released the prices yet, so that information is conjecture at this point. The estimated prices for the new Office 2007 are here http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/info/pricing.ms

Microsoft may well be stepping in the right direction with Vista. The "Vista Ultimate" SKU will include: - Media Center code - Tablet PC code - DVD editing and burning software - Networking configuration options in one panel - Code that will read the hardware and scale the OS to optimize performance for the given machine - A driver model that makes use of the 3D capabilities of current video adapters - Anti-spyware in Windows Defender, a

Now that I just have to disagree with .. Just because something has a nice outer appearance and a high price tag it doesn't always make it better Just for the record, I was not referring to looks and price tag, I was speaking about components. My meaning was that you could build (or purchase) a machine with quality components, or bad c

I think having two machines - one PC with Windows and associated programs, and one Mac with the OS X and associated programs would be fun. One could learn both platforms and associated programs, and would therefore be able to benefit from both worlds (or sides of the fence). They are both just machines (or an OS and programs on a machine) and of course, you get what you pay for in machines - whether it be a car, an appliance, a shop tool, or a computer. If you keep your tools
