There's no doubt that Stardock was incredibly generous with existing TotalGaming.net users. No doubt about it. But on the other hand, TotalGaming.net users subscribed, for $90 in most cases, with the understanding that they would get all the games Stardock put on there during their subscription for free. Understandably, Stardock has had to adapt the system in order to get a lot more games. But it has also meant that TotalGaming u

I just got Stardock's email today announcing that not only am I being upgraded to TotalGaming.net phase 2 and hence receiving 10 tokens which will let me buy 3 or 4 more games on top of the 10 or so I've already downloaded on top of my original Galactic Civilizations purchase, but I'm also getting Galactic Civilizations II (which I had planned to buy). Hip Hip Horray for Stardock!!
I actually prefer to use DesktopX media player widgets that control WMP. Those i can put into the system tray.
I think this is a case where we'll have to wait until we can compare apples and apples.
These are great tips, thanks!
I have had good luck with Spinrite here.
Mary Jo Foley is doing what good journalists should be doing. Something that seems increasingly rare in the technology industry - expose the truth on mega corporations like Microsoft who try to pretend they have some grand "vision" when in reality they're just trying to rev their products to increase their bottom line. My beef with Microsoft is that they keep trying to make Longhorn out to be the most important version of Windows ever. That's
I use it all day every day. I've got my To-Do list and a weather widget. Going to rain tomorrow. Sigh. My kids use it like crazy too, their desks are full of walking creatures.
Did you try rebuilding your icon cache?
I have no art skill. Any doubt that I had any was dispersed when I tried to follow Mormegil's tutorial. I can repeat what he does but I cannot create new things with them. When I first got into skinning, the skins were great but the skinning software was iffy at best. My first experience with WindowBlinds was on a Windows 95 box and while it worked, it didn't skin very much and my computer got flakey. And while IconPackager worked great, there
My experiences with Synergy have not been positive. I'm glad that you got it to work but for me, it was a pain in the butt. It seems to randomly lose connections. It also does not play well on a DHCP network which my home network is. So every time I bring my tablet in, I have to go in and reconfigure it. The universal clipboard is also a pretty big deal. Being able to just copy and paste files back and forth is pretty significant.
That depends on what you're using them for. If you are a developer, then DesktopX is better hands-down. Not even close. Konfabulator is actually pretty primitive when you move away from pre-canned widgets. Now, if you're talking as a user and just want to run widgets, that's just a matter of taste. There are more good widgets for Konfabulator IMO than DesktopX. But Konfabulator can only do widgets whereas DesktopX can do entire deskt
I know I'd like to see what people could come up with!
Thanks for the info!
I agree. The industry needs to get on the ball and make their games worth their increasing price tags.
You know what I'd like to see? A DesktopX contest. With awards for best widgets, best animated objects, and best themes? Anyone else think that would be cool? And if so, who would want to participate?
Konfabulator 2.0! Now with new version number!
HAHA. The Skins Factory, the skinning world's resident spoiled infant talks about professionalism. Oh poor guy, the adults made your tantrum disappear. At least you're making the most of the opportunity to show the world how big of an ass you are. AND.....as for the article..I'm still thinking of getting the Mac Mini. I haven't had a Mac before so I won't miss the iLife stuff. It sounds like it's the Mac fans who are getting the royal screw jo
Can we get a few more details about this MMORTS?
Let me start by saying WOHOO. This game is going to so rock. Even if you just took GalCiv 1's game features and stuffed them in here you'd have the best 4X strategy game EVER. Is anyone else finding themselves holding down the mouse button to rotate the map and zoom in a lot? I just love looking at the planets and the new planet system has so much more potential. I'm going to ignore the detail bug stuff like the fact that tiles with special itemsin
I think what riles some people up is that Brad is so superb at debating. Even when I disagree with a position he has, I can't think of a way of actually defeating his argument. I think what gets people mad is that even on skinning problems that are a matter of opinion, Brad's years of experience in debating allows him to basically crush those who disagree. I swear; sometimes i think Brad could prove that the sun rotates around the earth. and w
That bottom screenshot makes me glad WB supports tool windows.
Norton is the devil. It is so badly written these days that it's almost malicious.
Remember fuckedcompany.com? That was the truly first biz blog. Unfortunate name.
I don't think every skin should be chargeable. Most skins suck. I think people should have to earn the priviledge to submit commercial skins.
