I haven't played in a while, but after getting an email about the 1.11 patch being released and finally getting it downloaded & activated, I finally play a game with it. Only to notice about halfway through that there are no minor races. Neither ones placed at the start, nor new ones popping up from time to time. And yes, I made sure that I didn't select "Disable Minor Races" So I try it again, and again, no minor races. ???? Anyone else get this? The only thi

Isn't this much better than having to keep the cd in the drive?
I like how that is. Many 4x games are simply races up the tech tree - CIV for instance, if you get gunpowder units before others, it's a huge advantage. In this, the tech tree is both really spread out and there really aren't any major jumps. Just a very gradual progression for the most part (perhaps excepting alignment weaponry)
Civ IV wasn't really stable until version 1.52, which I think came out a few months after the game. And early one, there was a major problem affecting ATI users which wouldn't let them even run the game. I agree the 1.0 of GC2 was a bit dodgy, but the 1.00x whatever version is pretty stable. Personally, I haven't had any major problems in Oblivion, considering it is such a performance hog. 2 crashes in something like 50 hours of
I always thought the empty turn upon loading a saved game was meant to discourage frequent save/loading.
Yeah, any sort of patch needs the internet activation dealie. Frankly, I find that more intrusive than having the cd in the drive, but that's just me...
Yeah, the forum software sucks, but bear in mind, this is fanboy central, so don't expect many people to agree with that.
Well, just because it's there doesn't mean you have to exploit it....it didn't ruin the game, you ruined your own game.
Ascendancy, which is very much like GC2, actually had a 3D map and frankly, it was a pain. 2D flat map is better.
AFAIK, entering the serial number into the game itself doesn't do anything. I did that and was unable to download any updates. Go to this page https://www.galciv2.com/registration.aspx ANd make sure the website has both your regular number and the collector's edition serial number.

I think if you do this, then you should make larger hull sizes easier to research. Because if there is no real advantage in bigger hull sizes anymore, then why should the player have to research them? I mean, for weapons and defense, ones that take more research are dramatically better than the earlier ones. A harppon is better than a stinger, and a photonic torpedo is better than both. If you want to have a point in using small
Yeah, what next? Bug-eyed bipedal humanoids traveling faster than light shooting death rays. There's a difference between breaking the laws of physics as we know it (like FTL travel) and something that is just flat out nonsensical. Space is big. Really big. In order to have something like an asteroid
Yeah, I know there is the metaverse, but I would like to see a record of your personal games kept, like a Hall of fame like the Civ games.
I think it depends on the size of the galaxy. on smaller ones, they can be useful for research or for making small ships. But on larger ones, I think they are best mostly ignored, save for providing some extra cash (just markets), since you will probably have better research/production planets, and the real limit to how much you produce is limited by your cash.
How about Erik Estrada? okay, it wouldn't make as much sense, but there is a website where you can hire them to ptich your law firm, and Mr. Estrada presumably works much, much cheaper.
That many ships would be a nightmare of micromanagement. They've have to change how starships work, to something like Moo3
There seems to be no logic when to the surrendering, just random chances between all the AI players (and a very slim one to you)
Speak for youself, I wouldn't mind a disco Opera is close enough, I think the actual term is "cantata", but don't quote me on it. I do agree though that the opening song is better than the music in the game. I think I turned off the in game music almost immediately, though it doesn't seem to remember it. The setting saves, but it doesn't seem to be applied until I
No, apparently for later patches, you do have to be on the internet. see this thread here https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=346&AID=105562
You might give us your computer specs
Heh, no wonder the Starforce guys are so envious - it's a way to hassle consumers in a whole new way.
Oh yeah. Population is good. What I do is set up a lot of my planet as cash planets. A couple farms, enough happy places to make them happy, then the rest of them economy/money facilities. Then I have a couple planets with manufacturing and several that do research. but most are money planets. Because research and manufacturing don't do you any good unless you can afford to run them at max capacity. Or as much good.
There are no fighters in the traditional sense, it's just the name of a ship. It's just what the AI calls it's tiny warships.
Good support! Blame the customers for seeing baffling things as "bugs", not "features". Take the AI surrending part. In my current game, as AFAIK, one AI surrendereed without even losing a planet. He was at war with another civ on the other side of the galaxy, and me between the two. If he lost a world, it wasn't one of his "core" ones, but a far flung on the other side of the galaxy. Maybe this is deliberate. But it's so stupid that it sure seems like a bug.
