Hmmmm. What would be cool though, is being able to rent out (or rent) units to other civilizations.

Not that the other aliens in GC2 are bad, exactly, but they do tend to be somewhat well, bland. Other than the Altarians and the Drengin, the rest are sort of forgetable. But the Snathi - they are memorable. Evil teddy bears are not original, but it's one of those great and memorable concepts. They deserve to a major race, IMHO.

GC2 really isn't about exploration. Unless you play as human, you already know where all the planets and stars are, anyway. And humans not knowing about them doesn't really make sense, since it's not like you can hide a star (even if visible light is blocked, they are still detectable through a variety of means).

Some people find internet activation/restricted availability of patches to be more restrictive than starforce. At least if you have the cd, you can pretty much always run a game. Not true with GalCiv2. What if say, Mr. Waddell gets hit by a car tomorrow? Stardock goes under and boom, no one can get the patch anymore

This is just me, but I pick the weakest civilization and beat them up. Also, in terms of weapons, I think it's best to pick 2 types, and also, you will want to get an ethical alignment as soon as possible - which ever you want - as they tend to have better weapons.

Yeah, this "no copy protection" bit is definitely a misnomer. No cd-check is what they should say. In a lot of ways, this is more restrictive than just needing a cd, because you are completely at Stardock's whim. Need a patch? Well, you can only get it through Stardock, so better hope they are up and running.

I like the dual military/social production system, it makes it much easier to have wars, but there really needs to be more transparency in how the production values are calculated. It's not the duality that 's complicated, it's the results that are confusing. That's what great about Civ - you know exactly why your cities are producing what they are producing.

No, wasn't a problem with my browser Apparently I had entered my collector's edition serial number, but not the game serial number (though I entered that when I installed the game, I guess there was no point in doing that) Poking around , I found this page which let me enter my serial number https://www.galciv2.com/registration.aspx Thank you so much Stardock, for your excellent customer service (that is sarcasm, BTW, though pretty much fits the lousy

Hmmmm. I don't see a serial number text box on the left side of the page. All I see is "Home","Databanks", etc. Then to the right of that is "My Posts", "Watch List", "My Account" I bought it at Walmart in Fenton, so it's not an issue of having a European version. Like I said, I had massive problems with Stardock Central when I had the original Gal Civ, and I am not installing that on my new computer and risk all the horrible problems it caused. I would s

I just tried launching the game and picking update (I have the serial number entered into the game) and the same thing happened. That just launched my web browser, which went to the downloads page, no entry for the patch. I got the first patch last week okay. Guess I'll try clearing out the cache, good idea. Edit: Didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though. And don't get me started on Stardock Central. I hate that thing. Despise it. Loathe it. It c

I love the business model where the head of the company praises himself, but can't be bothered to help a customer (ie, me) actually find the patch to the game. Great model, providing incentives for people to pirate the game and get the patch from pirates, while making it impossible for paying customers like me to get it, without using that malware Stardock Central...

Okay, I go to the downloads section https://www.galciv2.com/Downloads.aspx I see at the top of the page " Galactic Civilizations Retail update to v1.0X - YES this is the latest update! Download this regardless of how you purchased Galactic Civilizations" Except, the icon on the left takes me to TotalGaming net to buy GC2, while the "Download" button on the right takes me to the collector

Like pretty much all maps, the main playing screen is designed to convey information, not actually be 100% realistic looking. I mean, look at a street map. But if you look at the city from the air, you don't see all those numbers and symbols. And look at most globes - how many countries are actually one solid color in real life? Pretty much any map of astronomical things will have to overstate the size of the stars and planets and understa

Good to hear, though I suspect that once they start counting sales of the new Sims 2 EP, it will be #2. I can only hope that the success will spawn more, similar games to GC2. Maybe a fantasy version in the vein of Mom?

I personally would like tactical combat, both in space and on the ground. I've never understood why people don't like other people having more options. Me, I suck at strategic games, having tactical combat would allow me to play a game without cheating. If you feel it's an exploit, then don't use it. That said, I don't think it would work very well in GC, because the ships aren't designed like they were in Moo2. That borrowed

I think it does feel like a beta in some regards. But the only CTDs I get are when alt-tabbing out, sometimes when I tab back in it crashes. The biggest problem I've run into is sometimes it autoscrolls by itself. I think if I click too many mouse buttons or something it happens. keeps doing it until i go to a screen without the map shown. Annoying! But not that major. And i ran into the missing turn button thing, which caused me to go back to an earlier save. <b

Well, you also largely control what a planet produces, by deciding on which sort of buildings/facilities there are. Anyway, what I don't like about the system is that I don't always get how the product is calculated. Like a planet seemingly has factories, but isn't producing much production. But that's mostly a feedback issue, not design. i think it's pretty good as is. Simple, but gives you a pretty decent amount of control. a

You can actually tweak each planet's spending, sorta. If you go the colony management screen for that planet, at the top under the name & class are boxes for military, social, and research. They have a circle thing which can be clicked on which will then emphasize that by borrowing from the other categories. I missed it on my first read of the manual, just a small paragraph on page 29 (the bottom)

Heh, in my first game, somehow I put the missiles on my ship backwards. so when they fired, the missiles would go out the back then curve around to hit the enemy. Pretty neat. I really have to say though, I think SD could take the ship battle bit, along with the ship editor, and make a mighty fine starship battling game
