I am a fan of Civ IV's "Great person" concept. I wouldn't mind seeing that implemented into GC2 in some form. As for great military leaders, you could extrapolate that as your ship's XP, then when you upgrade the ship- that's the general and crew being promoted up to a more powerful ship... I wouldn't mind some EU2-style events tied in to the "great people" as well.

My current game I'm in serious danger as the Korx cause the damn Humans are spreading influence bases everywhere, and I can't buy an Ally (my military isn't strong enough to win the war right now- I can outlast the damn humans, but I'd suffer too much of a bloody nose in the process, so I'm stuck playing cold war-style warfare, which isn't to my advantage due to map position and all the others who surrendered to them.)

My guess: 300,000 at end of year, another 150,000 for a total of 450,000 by time GCIII or Society comes out. I'm a bit more cynical about the market. That being said, I think this is the game that puts SD in a position to become something big in terms of games- all that's needed is for the next game to be popular and satisfying.

I'll say this. GC1 when I got it didn't impress me too much- then I went home and DLed your last patch before Altarian Prophecy. That changed my opinion of the game drastically (I had no internet for six months- due to being at Keesler's training hell) Your patches got me to buy GC2 as a pre-order. I knew even if there were lots of bugs (honestly, there were a few more bugs then I expected) it would be handled, and improvements made.

This might be beyond the scope of this, but something I'd like added Europa Universalis 2-style events, where the choices are based on parties- and there is no real good/bad options without a risk of something REALLY bad happening (like having a revolt) Also the ability to change your party with some drawback.

I've noticed they tend to start with beams, then move on to adjust to their enemies... The three games I've played that have turned into open war, I've had one of each type of weapon used on me...

HoMM just lost another sale due to Starforce. I quit playing AoWSM a few months ago due to not being able to find a no-CD for the last patch. Civ4 sealed it, as Aow:SM wasn't that good. The thing is, I don't think DRM costs that many sales either way, it just drains profits that go to the DRM leeches instead of the company. What's really going to kill the game industry someday is lack of originality- though the PC market wo

1) I think the first one might be good for the expansion. I know it's been batted around some. 2) Will NEVER happen in this game. The devs, for good reason don't want tactical exploitation in this game. 3) This is something I would like to see, some random stuff in the combat. LIke the occasional kamikaze run that would heavily damage a capital ship, etc...

Ideas: 1) A Save game automatically undoes any moves from that turn, so the turns starts all over when you load. That might be the best solution. 2) One feature I'd like to see is when you load a game- the status screen you had from GC1, that explains where you are sitting- "The Arceans are the most powerful race in the galaxy, and they really don't like you."

I say C, just to have it. At the very least B, maybe with direct IP connects as well. Of course, this poll isn't scientific- as generally, the most hardcore gamers tend to be on forums, the ones who make the majority of the MP community.

I wouldn't worry too much about lending the game out 1) There's really no way to keep you from doing such, and 2) It's in SD's best interest- as long as you don't give it to someone who isn't going to buy it. Even if you did, they'd probably end up buying the expansion pack anyways- so SD still makes more profit. SD isn't going to make money off people who pirate the software anyways- as 99% of them wouldn't buy the game i

Given the increased sales, I think MP is more likely- due to the wider base= enough people to support MP. I think I remember SD saying it was a demand issue- more sales= more potential demanders of MP. I doubt I'd play MP, but it would be good to have in the game. MP will probably open up a lot of exploits though.

When a game is pirated, it usually doesn't mean a lost sale- in most cases, the people who pirate games aren't going to buy the game in the first place usually. That being said, I don't have my hopes up that SD's distribution method will become commonplace- there is a whole set of leeches based around DRM that will prevent that from happening. After a while, I'll probably give my v1.00 out to others, and use that as a demo- I've found earlier

The AI definitely does adapt. I saw the AI switch from shields to point defense, and from lasers to mass drivers in the last game I played. By that point I had enough worlds to just outslug the AI though- my big problem at the end of the game was scraping together enough money for my mega transports.

If it says build time never, it means one of two things: Either your industrial capacity on the planet was at 0 (build a factory , or check your military production slider) -or- You're paying off debt below -500 BC, in which case, that just takes time, and more taxes/less production.

That wouldn't do anything but help the human player. One idea: create a large-capactiy transport as a default ship, maybe ones with 3 and 5 troop modules, and let the AI build those... You can also use a regular hull to make a tougher transport, but without weapons, it just means it dies slower.

Well, I thought about the whole thing some more. I think the best solution would be a combination of approaches. 1) If the AI notes no other race has a tech they own, they will charge a lot more for that tech then they would normally. The AI will still value the tech normally. As more races get the tech, they'll value it less and less. If only one race doesn't ahve it, they'll view the tech at only a fraction of its value. This means t

I have one more suggestion for the patch, as a minor bonus tweak: Set the default initial production capacity slider to 100% not 50%. Everyone goes to 100% production anyways, so that just starts the game a few seconds quicker... Thanks.

The tech trade enabled at Alliances- that might solve some of the problem When I play a game, and discover another race by the 10th turn, usually they are 4-5 techs ahead of me, and I rush-build labs to start. That puts me behind for a long while tech-wise. The tech trading system right now is the biggest problem with GC2's gameplay- but it does happen in most other TBS games...

47 Replies 38,753 Views

I'll try to guess out what the effects would be in each case 1) Only the techs AI's researched themselves can be traded... -The AI's would trade their unique techs for each other, meaning the best strat would be to research unique techs. The downside of both of these problems, is that it would be more difficult for the human to catch up. I think the key issue is to reduce the rate of tech trading.
