For the fantasy strategy game, I am hoping to write a book or some very long story guide that would come with the collector's edition of the game.
Nice dodge of the question.
1) I thought I was trying to keep an eye on this talk, but this ancient Altaria stuff is news to me. Can someone post a couple of ref links?
In [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/?aid=171601#comments"]this journal post[/link], Brad said
Inciden

Here's Brad's post on the Quarter to Three forums from last year.
I don't want to hijack the thread here with an tangential discussion on what should be in a fantasy strategy game. But here's my 2 cents on that: 1) Character building. The player is a character in the game. Nearly all magic in the world actually flows from the player. If you've ever read The Silmarillion (Tolkien) all the magic in Arda basically comes from the spirit of the things created by Eru. So in th

Yep, could be your social production slider is set to zero. Another possibility is that your treasury has dipped too far in the negative, in which case all production will automatically cease until you get things back in order.
Hopefully Stardock and its affilates's 4x fantasy can surpass the content of MOM.
The critical failing of MoM (apart from only supporting 320x200 graphics, which was unforgivable even in 1994) was its A.I. The game design and mechanics were fantastic, but in the end you were playing against a braindead opponent who just cheated massively. I have no doubt that Stardock can do much better in that regard. :)
Basically, minor races will behave the same as major races in the final version except that they won't colonize new planets. But they'll invade, research, and just generally behave smarter than they have in the past.
I think I've found a new mission in life - to shepherd the Snathi into becoming a galactic superpower. I'll smash the fleets of their neighbours, thereby paving the way for Snathi transports full of squirrel commandos. Soon they'll be powerful enough to tak
Very nice update. I'm very much looking forward to the next beta, and very very much looking forward to the fantasy game. For those who asked, the only other commercial "4x fantasy strategy game" in the conventional sense is really Master of Magic. Age of Wonders and Heroes of Might and Magic have aspects of that genre, but they're missing some key aspects needed to make you feel like you're actually running an empire. Dominions 3 is another candidate, though the province-based inste
People who expected EU2 in space must be blind.
Well, in my own defense, perhaps a little more background is needed. I pre-ordered Sins ages ago, when it was first announced. At that point there was almost no information available about it, apart from some forum posts by the developers. If I were making the decision whether or not to buy now, there'd be a lot more information available. But hey, I knew the gamble of pre-ordering, and no regrets. ;)
Does Frogboy maintain a thread to talk about his next game?
No, he's being annoyingly quiet about it. ;) He has unleashed a few tidbits here and there on the internet about it. There was a rather lengthy post he made on another site's forums last year where he described the features and design decisions that he thinks should go into a game like that. It would be natural to conclude that Stardock's game will incorporate all of them, though he didn't explicit
For what it's worth, I haven't seen it happen since the beta where you said you'd added the code.
Yeah, there was a bug (is still a bug?) where occasionally Ctrl-N would set the races to Fool difficulty setting. Check out their intelligence in their race overview screen (I think it's under Misc.). I'm betting they've all been set to Fool. I'm also a habitual Ctrl-N user, but that's because I'm not very good at the game, yet I refuse to play below Tough. In order for me to have half a chance, I need to give myself a good solid starting setup. ;)
Ultimately I was expecting a game more like EU2 in space
Actually, that pretty much hits the nail on the head as to what I was expecting. Ah well, live and learn. :NOTSURE:
Can't wait for the Not-MoM beta from Stardock.
Me either! My credit card is just sitting here, waiting to fork over my hard-earned money for the pre-order. You hear that Stardock? Money, just for you! Just announce the game and get that beta coming. I don't care if only one button in the entire GUI works at this point, I wanna click it! ;)
Wonder if they will release a rpg in the future...
Brad's said he'd love to do a Baldur's Gate
Well, not all games are for all people. I took a gamble on it and bought it, but so far it's just not for me. It may be different than the majority of RTS games out there, but it's still an RTS at its heart. I have no doubt that it'll be a great success, and I wish them all the best, but I'm returning to the pleasure that is GalCiv2:TA. When's the next beta? ;)
Add me to the list of people not wanting to see the GalCiv series incorporate any gameplay elements from Sins. Keep turn-based games turn-based! That applies to tactical battles too!
My only request is if they could work out some kindof TOTAL WAR tactical type gameplay for the battles.
They've already said that there will be tactical battles, though turn-based ones, not real-time ones. That's much preferable in my opinion anyway.
If there isn't yet, there will be when we finish ours (next year?)
You guys need to announce it! Come on, you know you want to! We demand a screenshot or two! And some tidbits about features! Something, anything! *begins picketing the forums until his demands are met*
Under such a situation selling the company while retaining all operational responsibility is like having your cake and eating it too.
The problem is, that situation never seems to materialize. Any larger company which bought Stardock would naturally be filled with suits, and suits will inevitably start meddling in the process. They'll start looking for ways to "improve" things - after all, if a suit can't find a way to improve something, how can he justify his job?<br/
If Stardock were bought out you wouldn't want to play GalCiv2 anymore. It would suddenly be crippled with DRM, you couldn't install it on more than one computer at a time, and it would be loaded with in-game advertising. Just imagine, the Drengin leader pounding down a can of Mountain Dew every time he comes up on your viewscreen! And you would no longer build farms on your planets, you'd build Applebee's! Entertainment Centers would become Chuck E. Cheeses! (Drengin looooove
I personally would be fine with a slightly more aggressive ai in which diplomatic relations were a function not just of relative strengths between two ais, but based on the strength of a player versus the entire field. Players with a high proportion of planets should suffer increased diplomatic penalties across the board, and players which fight the big dog should recieve diplomatic bonuses
This is where I have hopes that the AI revamp will add a little more character and
Yeah, I'd also like to see a larger penalty for breaking an alliance. Perhaps a massive Morale hit to your population which takes a long time to wear off? Or perhaps make it a permanent Morale hit, to represent that citizens have woken up to the fact that they're being led by a jerk? ;) You could also rationalize reductions in Loyalty and Diplomacy, and to a lesser degree Economy, Production and Research (citizens are less motivated after realizing their leader is an arse ;) ). <b
I'm intrigued by Brad's comment that the AI improvements are not just intended to make the game harder (by making the AI play smarter) but also to make the game more fun. Having an AI that responds more specifically to what's going on in the game would be very cool, as would having an AI that injects more of its particular race's personality into its dealings.
Brad continues to slip in little bits about their fantasy 4X game in surprising places. On joeuser, he posted an article about Sins going gold, which included a bunch of screenshots. Among the screenshots was a photo labeled 'Stardock's "wall of synergy" covered with concept art for next major 4X game...'
